Australian heavyweight boxer Justis Huni has suffered the first loss of his professional career, getting knocked out when he was on track for victory on Sunday morning. Fighting Fabio Wardley in Ipswich in the UK, Huni was in control of the fight and ahead on the scorecards — on track for a 12th career win. But as the intensity lifted in the 10th round of the 12-round bout, Wardley landed a monster punch on Huni, sending the Australian falling backwards and down onto the canvas. But it was a heartbreaking loss for Huni, who now has a 12-1 record and will need to bounce back to keep his dream alive of being one the best heavyweight fighters in the world. Rubbing salt into the wound, Huni was ahead 89-82 89-82 88-83 on the judges' scorecards at the time of the stoppage. 'That's my curse,' Huni said after the loss. 'I even said, it only takes one split second to switch off and it happened tonight. 'Credit to Fabio and his team. He's a real champion. 'He's just an awesome fighter. He never gave up and he got the win. He deserved it.' 'Justis Huni's a great operator,' Wardley said. 'I should've performed better in some of those rounds. Sometimes that's the way it goes. Wests Tigers co-captain Api Koroisau says the club's new era can finally restart with young gun Latu Fainu ready to take his place in the side. Fainu's selection on the Tigers' bench for Sunday's game against Penrith comes as former teenage prodigy Lachlan Galvin will make his club debut for Canterbury. The 20-year-old will start off the bench with Heath Mason starting in the No.6. However, there is no doubting what the long-term plans are at five-eighth. 'Latu is the future at this club,' Koroisau said. 'He's still very young. He's definitely got to get some minutes in his legs as well. It's a really good thing to have.' While Fainu will be slowly brought back, Mason gets his second crack at the scrumbase alongside four-time premiership winner Jarome Luai. Mason impressed in last week's loss to North Queensland, ensuring coach Benji Marshall is loaded with some depth in the position. Koroisau conceded he was relieved to put the Galvin saga behind them. 'We have Heath Mason there at six and Latu coming back as well,'' he said. 'It's all about who we want to have with the personnel we have. 'Heath played so well so we can guarantee he's going to be there and he can always fill in as well. The best thing is, it's behind us now. 'We can focus on who we want to be, especially the guys that are in there now. 'It's a good problem for Benji.' Koroisau is dealing with his own positional battles as reserve hooker Tallyn Da Silva is set to test the market at the end of the year. While Koroisau is looking to re-sign, he sympathised with the rising hooker. 'I'd love to keep him here,'' he said. 'He's a great kid and I think he's a great player. 'You definitely want to play NRL and want to play more minutes. You can completely understand his point of view. It's just a hard place to be. 'From me to him, as long as you think you're doing the right thing for yourself and family and you're looking after you, that's the most important thing.' Despite drawing interest from other clubs, Koroisau has his sights firmly set on re-signing with the Tigers not only to end his playing career but for life after it. The 32-year-old, who is close with Marshall, has expressed interest in hanging around after playing to assist with the rebuild of the club. 'I'd love to finish my time at the Tigers and stay here for the rest of my career, that's the dream,' Koroisau said. 'It keeps me around the game especially for life after footy. 'It's always so up in the air and you don't really know what to do. I'd love to stay in the same environment. 'I love rugby league and I love the boys that I have created connections with so I would love to do that.''

Bailey Smith hosts secret meeting with AFL CEO and Geelong bosses
AFL boss Andrew Dillon drove to the home of Bailey Smith for a secret fireside meeting on Thursday night amid the Geelong superstar's recent headline-grabbing indiscretions. 7NEWS understands Dillon and Smith were joined by Cats coach Chris Scott, chief executive Steve Hocking and head of football Andrew Mackie at the Surf Coast property. Dillon organised the meeting after Smith's social media post last month alluding to illicit drug use saw the Cats and AFL hold robust conversations over the 24-year-old's behaviour. The AFL opted not to penalise the explosive midfielder for the now-deleted Instagram comment, instead warning Smith that he would be sanctioned should a similar incident arise. Smith was fined for two separate 'obscene gestures' to fans during Gather Round and Easter Monday matches this year. Those with knowledge of Thursday's intimate catch-up insist Dillon didn't lecture Smith, instead reiterating his importance as a role model as one of the faces of the competition. Dillon and the Cats officials outlined that should Smith's career trajectory continue with fewer off-field controversies, his marketability would only rise. As well as a playing contract worth more than $850,000 per season, the Brownlow Medal contender has lucrative partnerships with Cotton On, Monster Energy, McDonalds, Stuff That Matters and his own alcohol label Barry's. Geelong have been the subject of an ongoing AFL audit this season into third party payments that is expected to result in a fine for administrative lodgement errors — not explicit hidden deals — in the next fortnight. Chris Scott was forced to include part of his salary into the Cats' soft cap earlier this season. He is expected to be in the frame to play against Essendon at the MCG next week.
