Since its inception in 2004, the SICMF has expanded its repertoire and invitation list, now comprising a stellar roster of alumni who have graced stages at renowned festivals such as Verbier, Salzburg, and Marlboro. This year is no exception, as returnees include Michael Repper, a Grammy Award-winning conductor, Nicolas Dautricourt, esteemed violinist, and David Cohen, the newly appointed principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra.
New faces also add to the festival's allure. Siwo Kim, artistic director of the VIVO Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio, first graced the SICMF stage in 2019, while Anna Vasilyeva from St Petersburg joined last year. This year's notable inclusion is Maya Bogdanocić, who will perform Saint-Saëns' first cello concerto with the Festival Concert Orchestra. Critics have hailed her latest CD of the work as a 'dazzling and unique performance.'

Further enhancing the vibrancy of the festival, Andrey Baranov, 2012 Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition winner, will return, alongside Dwight Parry, who thrilled audiences with the world premiere of Connesson's new oboe concerto. Students and patrons will also be treated to performances by YaoGuang Zhai, principal clarinetist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and acclaimed flautist Ekaterina Kornishina, who returns after challenging audiences with her enthralling rendition of Schubert's 'Trockne Blumen' last year.
Joining this year's incredible faculty are violinist Daniel Austrich, viola player Dana Zemtsova, and double bass artist Zoran Marković, already celebrated in his native Slovenia and beyond. South African-born Ian Watson, a graduate of Stellenbosch University and participant in the inaugural SICMF, is now recognised as a leading orchestral player in the UK. Meanwhile, renowned bassoon virtuoso Bram van Sambeek will be featured in Nino Rota's colourful bassoon concerto.

Lastly, maestro Antony Hermus will debut at the festival, conducting the Festival Symphony Orchestra. As a prominent figure in Dutch music, Hermus brings a wealth of experience, directing major orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw and the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
The Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival continues to create a vibrant platform for both emerging and established artists, ensuring an exhilarating experience for all those who attend. With its impressive roster of returning and new talents, the 2025 festival is bound to be a memorable celebration of exquisite music.

Kanye West makes a dramatic court appearance to support ‘Diddy'

Kanye West made a brief but striking appearance on Friday to show support for his longtime friend Sean 'Diddy' Combs. Combs faces serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Dressed head to toe in white, Kanye arrived just before noon, accompanied by Combs's son, Christian 'King' Combs. This stirred a buzz among onlookers and the media. When asked if he was there to back Combs, Kanye simply nodded and said 'yes' before swiftly moving towards an elevator. He declined to comment on whether he might testify in the trial's upcoming defence phase. Unable to enter the main courtroom, Kanye was directed to an overflow room where he watched the proceedings for about 40 minutes. He then left the courthouse and drove away, according to The Guardian. The trial centres on allegations that Combs, 55, used his celebrity, wealth, and intimidation to coerce women into sex trafficking over two decades. Combs has pleaded not guilty, with his lawyers arguing the activities were consensual adult encounters and part of a swinger lifestyle. Kanye's appearance came a day after 'Jane,' a woman who testified under a pseudonym, concluded six days of harrowing testimony. She described feeling pressured to have sex with male sex workers while Diddy Combs watched. She also recounted a disturbing relationship that lasted until Combs's arrest last September. Jane also testified about a trip to Las Vegas in January 2023 with a famous rapper close to Combs. This is where a group witnessed a sex worker engage in sexual acts at a hotel party. Jane's testimony revealed complex emotions; despite the trauma, she expressed ongoing affection for Combs. 'I do still love him,' and asking for peace for him. Her account echoed that of Cassie Ventura, another former partner who testified about multi-day sexual events during her years with Combs. The trial has seen vivid details emerge, including testimony about Diddy Combs's Los Angeles home being searched. Authorities found firearms and hundreds of bottles of lubricant, highlighting the scale of the alleged enterprise. The jury also learned about the chaotic state of hotel rooms after Combs's 'hotel nights,' as described by his former assistant. As the trial continues, the world watches closely. Kanye's presence, though brief, sent a clear message: he stands firmly behind Combs. Whether he will take the stand remains to be seen, but his support is unmistakable. This case remains one of the most closely followed legal dramas in recent memory, with implications far beyond the music industry.
