Pakistan will go to war if India denies water under IWT, says Bilawal Bhutto
Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday said his country will go to war if India denies Islamabad its fair share of water under the
Indus Waters Treaty
(IWT).
India put in abeyance the 1960 agreement soon after the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 people. Home Minister Amit Shah last week announced to never restore the historic accord.
Bilawal's comments came two days after Pakistan's Foreign Ministry criticised Shah's "brazen disregard" for international agreements.
Bilawal, in a speech in parliament, rejected the Indian decision to suspend the agreement and threatened to get Pakistan's share of water.
"India has two options: share water fairly, or we will deliver water to us from all six rivers," he said referring to the six rivers of the Indus basin.

He said that the IWT was still in vogue as the agreement cannot be held in abeyance.
"The attack on Sindhu (Indus River) and India's claim that the IWT has ended and it's in abeyance. Firstly, this is illegal, as the IWT is not in abeyance, it is binding on Pakistan and India, but the threat itself of stopping water is illegal according to the UN charter," he said.
Bilawal, who is head of the
Pakistan Peoples Party
(PPP), also threatened that if India decides to follow through on the threat, "we will have to wage war again".
The former foreign minister also highlighted the importance of talks and cooperation, especially in counterterrorism efforts.
"If India and Pakistan refuse to talk, and if there is no coordination on terrorism, then violence will only intensify in both countries," he said.
Bilawal also accused India of "weaponising terrorism for political purposes".
He claimed that during his diplomatic visits to the UK and European nations as foreign minister, it was evident that India had lobbied hard to reverse Pakistan's progress on the
Financial Action Task Force
(FATF) front.
"At a time when Pakistan had successfully moved from the FATF grey list to the white list, India made every effort to drag us back to the grey list using false narratives and diplomatic pressure," he claimed.
Bilawal also said that Pakistan succeeded in raising the issue of Kashmir on the world stage and President
Donald Trump
had spoken in favour of mediation on Kashmir.
Apart from immediate steps such as putting the IWT in abeyance and stopping all trade with Pakistan, India launched
Operation Sindoor
on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10.

India charting new road with record export, free trade agreements: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi: India is charting a new road to economic prosperity with record export figures and multiple free trade agreements, commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday, highlighting the Vanijya Bhawan's efficient infrastructure, effective support systems and positive work environment that was created three years ago. (ANI Photo) 'Supported by a robust digital ecosystem, processes are being streamlined and made quick and more transparent,' the minister said, emphasizing that the Vanijya Bhawan personifies the spirit of optimism and resilience that helped the government to achieve record exports of $825 billion in 2024-25 against all odds. Vanijya Bhawan houses the commerce and industry ministry. Despite global headwinds and adverse geopolitical situations, India has been able to register record export growth year-after-year, which is as per the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision that it is a major growth engine, an official said referring to PM inaugurating the modern administrative building of the commerce ministry on June 23, 2022. 'Exports play a key role in the transition of a country from developing to developed status,' Prime Minister said that day. The Union budget for FY26 acknowledged exports as one of the four growth engines for the Indian economy with agriculture as the first engine followed by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and investments. Vanijya Bhawan, which is a symbol of 'new thinking', is now India's centre of major trade negotiations, including the recently concluded bilateral trade deal with the United Kingdom and two major ongoing free trade negotiations with the United States and the European Union, the official mentioned above said. 'In all likelihood, an FTA negotiation with Canada is expected to be resumed soon even as we are engaged with similar bilateral trade deals with Peru, Chile and New Zealand. Our hands are full,' he said. 'Vanijya Bhawan has been envisioned as a modern, efficient, integrated and dedicated hub for India's fast-growing commerce and industry ecosystem,' Goyal said in a series of posts on X. 'In the 3 years since its inauguration by Prime Minister @NarendraModi ji, several milestones have been achieved and new benchmarks set in the way India does business,' Goyal said in the post. This has been made possible by the commitment of our employees. Iran's Nuclear Site At Fordow Significantly Damaged: IAEA Chief
Vienna: US bombing probably caused "very significant" damage to the underground areas of Iran's Fordow uranium enrichment plant dug into a mountain, though no one can yet tell the extent, UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said on Monday. The United States dropped the biggest conventional bombs in its arsenal on Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday, using those bunker-busting munitions in combat for the first time to try and eliminate sites including the Fordow uranium-enrichment plant dug into a mountain. "At this time, no one, including the IAEA is in a position to have fully assessed the underground damage at Fordow," Grossi said in a statement to an emergency meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's 35-nation Board of Governors. The IAEA has not been able to carry out inspections in Iran since Israel started its military strikes on nuclear facilities there on June 13. "Given the explosive payload utilised and the extreme(ly) vibration-sensitive nature of centrifuges, very significant damage is expected to have occurred," Grossi added. Beyond the level of damage done to Fordow's underground enrichment halls, one of the biggest open questions is the status of its stock of enriched uranium, particularly its more than 400 kg of uranium enriched to up to 60% purity, a short step from the roughly 90% that is weapons grade. That is enough, if enriched further, for nine nuclear weapons, according to an IAEA yardstick, though Iran says its intentions are peaceful and it does not seek atom bombs. Iran did, however, inform the IAEA on June 13 that it would take "special measures" to protect its nuclear materials and equipment that are under so-called IAEA safeguards, the oversight provided for by the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Grossi said.
