Pueblo Police earns third international re-accreditation
(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) was awarded its third law enforcement accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
On Saturday, March 22, the police department revealed its second CALEA accreditation in Garden Grove, California. CALEA is an international credential authority that facilitates an agency's pursuit of professional excellence and is the Gold Standard for Public Safety Agencies.
CALEA's accreditation program is a voluntary way for agencies to demonstrate that they meet an established set of professional standards. Less than 5% of law enforcement agencies nationwide have attained this recognition of excellence.
In Colorado, only 20 out of 246 agencies have full accreditation.
'I want to thank and acknowledge Corporal Katie LaConte for her hard work in ensuring that we once again completed our accreditation process without any standards issues,' stated Pueblo Police Chief Chris Noeller. 'The men and women of our department are committed to upholding nationally recognized best practices, and it shows with our third accreditation.
The Pueblo Police Department received its initial CALEA accreditation on March 25, 2017, at the Mobile, Alabama, CALEA Conference. The accreditation came after a three-year assessment phase, when many policies and procedures were updated. They earned their first reaccreditation in 2021, followed by its most recent in March 2025.
CALEA's current accreditation process entails a four-year accreditation with annual remote compliance checks and a site-based visit every four years.

Former Brighton security guard arrested for trying to meet teen in Wyoming Co.
PERRY, N.Y. (WROC) – Officers with the Perry Police Department arrested a former Brighton school security guard on Friday and charged him with disseminating indecent material to minors. According to the PPD, a Facebook group called 'Decoys Making a Difference' went to the police station and turned over a binder that contained a chat log between 54-year-old Christopher L. Kervin and who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. Officers say in the conversations, Kervin asked the teen to send inappropriate pictures and 'wanted to teach the female lessons about her body.' Kervin then went to Crosbys in Perry to meet the alleged 14-year-old. Kervin was interviewed by an investigating officer and ultimately confessed to the conversations he had with the female who he believed was 14 years old. Officers charged Kervin with disseminating indecent material to minors in the first degree, and gave him an appearance ticket. Kervin will appear in Perry Village Court on July 8. The Brighton Superintendent of Schools released the following statement: 'Dear Members of the Brighton School Community, We are writing to let you know that we are aware of stories in the media regarding a former employee that has been charged with first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors. The individual in question has not worked in the District for approximately a year and a half. During their employment, we did not receive any complaints or reports of inappropriate conduct. We do not have any reason to believe that this situation is in any way related to our school district or their prior employment. That said, we will monitor the situation closely and work with law enforcement to address any additional concerns or information that results from their investigation. Please contact your child`s teacher, counselor, or principal if you have additional concerns or questions. Kevin McGowan, of Schools ' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
