Scots cops sent to Northern Ireland as police officers injured in fireworks riots

Daily Record11 hours ago

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the Scots cops in question are "trained to work in our environment".
Police Scotland officers have been deployed to Northern Ireland as a fifth consecutive night of riots saw more police officers injured in the disturbances.
Heavy masonry and fireworks were thrown during disorder on Friday night. And Assistant Chief Constable Melanie Jones has said the Scots officers in question are equipped to deal with the challenges they'll face.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officer said: "It is important to know over the remainder of this weekend the public will continue to see a large policing presence across Northern Ireland to reassure our communities and protect our streets. This will include the deployment of mutual aid resources from Scotland.

"These officers, trained to work in our environment, will be working side by side with their PSNI colleagues. We repeat, once more, our appeal for calm across Northern Ireland in the coming days." And a senior officer has warned that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is actively investigating people inciting the disorder through social media.
The scenes on Friday night in Portadown were the fifth consecutive night of rioting in the region after serious disturbances in Ballymena on Monday. The violence, which followed an alleged sex attack on a teenage girl in the Co Antrim town, has since spread to several other parts of Northern Ireland.

On Saturday afternoon, hundreds of people attended a rally in Belfast city centre which heard calls for greater political leadership in opposing racism. More than 60 police officers have been hurt during the rioting. A PSNI spokesperson said: "Disorder and violence broke out in Portadown with officers coming under sustained attack with heavy masonry and fireworks thrown at them.
"Officers used various public order tactics including water cannon to keep the public safe with no reports of injury to the public or damage to property." Two males, aged 14 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour and remain in custody. Police in Londonderry dealt with disorder in the Tullyally area. A police vehicle was damaged, with the front window smashed.
One male was arrested at around 2.20am and remains in custody. Damage was caused to playing fields and property in the Killeavey Road area of Newry as a large group set a pitch and bins on fire. One 14-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of riot. Stones were thrown at the windows of a hotel in the Newtownabbey area.

A car was also set on fire in the Hesketh Gardens area of Belfast, which police are treating as a racially motivated crime. The disorder started in Ballymena on Monday after an alleged sexual assault of a girl in the town last weekend. Two 14-year-old boys, who spoke to a court through a Romanian interpreter, have been charged with attempted rape.
A peaceful protest about the alleged assault on Monday evening was followed by attacks on properties housing ethnic minorities and police. The PSNI described the scenes as "racist thuggery". Assistant Chief Constable Jones added: "It's deeply disturbing to see such young members of our communities involved in and in some areas driving criminal activity like this.

"I would appeal directly to parents and guardians to speak to your children about the impact their behaviour is having on the safety of our local communities and the impact this could have on their lives if arrested, charged and prosecuted. We continue to have a heightened presence in our local communities to de-escalate violence.
"We are making arrests and will continue to make public appeals with photos of suspects. Do you want your child, family member or friend directly associated with this disorder in this way? These actions are not without serious consequence. I am so grateful to our frontline officers who continue to put themselves at risk in protecting everyone from this hate-motivated criminality."
Ms Jones added: "To those posting hate on social media, inciting disorder or being seen to commit disorder, we are actively investigating what you have said and what you have been captured doing. We have an ongoing physical and online presence. We have already released images of four individuals we want to identify and interview in connection with our ongoing investigation."
The officer added: "In releasing these images, I am asking the wider community to step forward and help us. It is in all of our interests, and in the interests of justice, that those responsible are dealt with and I would urge anyone who may have information to bring it forward."

Deviant Scots mum at heart of monkey torture ring ‘watched beheading videos' before getting involved in sick plot

She said watching the horror clips was "almost a way of life" MONKEY MANIAC Deviant Scots mum at heart of monkey torture ring 'watched beheading videos' before getting involved in sick plot Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SICKO mum who helped arrange the torture killings of baby monkeys got hooked on 'gore' by watching videos of beheadings, we can reveal. Natalie Herron, 39, told fellow sadists how she binged on horrendous online clips of humans being decapitated, boasting: 'It goes beyond a hobby. It's almost a way of life.' Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Monkey torture maniac Natalie Herron has been caged for more than two years 3 She was involved in a secret group of sickos who revelled in animal abuse clips 3 Sarah Kite of advocacy group Action For Primates hopes for more prosecutions Her depraved hobby emerged after she was jailed for helping to lead a worldwide monkey abuse ring, which paid thugs to rip tiny macaques from their mothers in Indonesia then butcher them on camera. The terrified animals were killed in agonising ways dreamt up by the group, including by crucifixtion, with the videos shared for kicks. Herron, of Airdrie, opened up to lowlife pals on encrypted messaging apps where she traded her stash of over 1,000 vile images and videos. She told other fiends: 'It's been a pleasure getting to know you all. 'I've built up a few amazing online relationships. 'Our private mails would have the normies turning in their graves. 'Before I got into monkey hate I always had a fascination for gore. Used to watch beheadings. 'Makes life much brighter knowing I'm not the only one who has monkey serial killer thoughts. 'Watching monkey torture always lulls me to sleep in the best way.' It is feared Herron has amassed an army of twisted followers, with thousands of others thought to be hooked on animal kill films. Her harrowing videos also saw young primates being hacked with machetes, dipped in boiling oil and having their skulls drilled. Katie Price slammed for 'putting puppy in danger' as fans warn 'you need to keep your pets safe!' Mother-of-two Herron hid her evil obsession by pretending to be an animal lover. She swapped pictures of pets, describing another brute's Staffie as 'a looker'. Herron wrote: 'I had a Staffy bef- ore I got my little furrball I have now. Rayne. 'She was the most tender, loving and loyal dog ever. They don't call them 'nanny dogs' for nothing. They're amazing with kids.' The Scottish Sun yesterday unmasked Herron by printing the first picture of her since she was caged for two years and three months at Airdrie Sheriff Court last Tuesday. As her group's administrator, she ran polls for monsters to vote on torture methods — including glueing the baby monkeys' hands and feet together before pepper spraying them, or force-feeding them until they died. She took warped delight when one bewildered primate was stuffed in a jar filled with biting fire ants, telling followers: 'We've got our ants in jars. Phenomenal!' We can reveal she also boasted how she did not 'give a s**t who knows I hate monkeys' and of her joy at seeing them 'blitzed in a blender and scalped'. And she bragged to pals about seeing one be crushed and suffocated. She said gleefully: 'Haven't you seen the video where the cellotape it into a ball? It's awesome.' And she added: 'People go around as if it's some ardinal sin, like we're committing the worst atrocities by watching monkey abuse vids.' Herron hid her debauched online life telling cronies family and friends would 'never look at me the same again'. She said the sadistic circle 'goes beyond a hobby — it's almost a way of life now lol.' But she was finally snared when US cops took down group ringleader Michael Macartney, 51, whose alias was 'The Torture King'. Scots cops found 1,084 images and videos of monkey torture on her iPhone. She admitted possessing and distributing obscene material between October 2021 and September 2022. But last night campaigners warned her ties to the torture network could have been over a longer period. Sarah Kite, of advocacy group Action for Primates, said: 'Natalie Herron has been involved in depraved and vile activity.' 'There are thousands of people involved in looking at this type of content, whether it be in any of the private Telegram groups or on Facebook. 'I would be concerned about them having contact with animals or children, seeing what they're capable of and what the sort of things that they enjoy. 'I think it's highly disturbing. I hope more people will be caught. 'I'm sure there'll be more both in the US and hopefully in the UK as well.' Nina Jackel, of Lady Freethinker, said: 'The torture and killing of helpless, infant macaques is among the most disturbing abuse cases I have seen in more than a decade.' Detective Inspector Mark Harrison, of the National Wildlife Crime Unit, warned: 'There are proven links between those involved in animal cruelty and violence towards people.' And the Scottish SPCA said: 'These videos are part of a broader culture of cruelty that must be tackled."

Serious threat issued to EastEnders' Tommy after shocking incident is committed

Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) is dealt a stark warning in EastEnders next week. As viewers of the BBC One soap know, the youngster has had quite a difficult year. He was taken into foster care after abusing mum Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), and subsequently entered a friendship with an unknown online friend. It later transpired that his new mate didn't exist – it was artificial intelligence. Tommy faced ridicule from his peers, but there was one person who could see past it. Newcomer Joel Marshall (Max Murray) swanned into Albert Square from Australia, bringing with him a lorry load of new issues to put upon Tommy. He'd been forced to flee the country alongside dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and his partner Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) when he upskirted a pupil in his class. Ross coughed up $50,000 in exchange for the girl's silence, but her family demanded that they also return to the UK. Joel has since gone on to introduce naïve Tommy to pornography, and recorded himself having sex with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James). She's since received significant online backlash from teens who have found out they've slept together. In upcoming scenes, Joel's troubled behaviour worsens… and he entwines Tommy into the scheme. The boys are returning from a day out together, and when they board a tube, Joel whips out his phone and instructs Tommy to start recording. Stumbling through the carriage, he falls onto another passenger – Isla – and touches her inappropriately. Tommy is horrified by the encounter, and a furious Isla rushes over to the police at Walford East to ensure that Joel is apprehended. At the station, Ross demands answers from his son, while Vicki has her own matters to discuss. Cornering Isla, she assures her that she will take appropriate action to prevent Joel from committing such an act again. Vicki also swaps phone numbers, should Isla need to contact her in future.
