The New York Mets are second place in the NL East, but they're playing like a last-place squad right now. They're 1-9 in the last 10 games, including 10-2 and 7-1 losses to the first-place Philadelphia Phillies on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

New York will lose four straight contests and four straight series if it falls to the Atlanta Braves again on Wednesday night. The Braves beat them 3-2 on Monday and 7-4 on Tuesday.
The Mets are 1.5 games behind the Phillies atop the NL East, but they do own the NL's top Wild Card spot. They also got good news about an injured player before Thursday's contest, via SNY.

"[Mark Vientos] played last night [in the minors], and they played today," manager Carlos Mendoza said. "He played third base, got three at-bats...He'll be back here [in New York] tomorrow."
"Now, we gotta get with the trainers and talk to him," he continued. "See if he needs an off day after playing back-to-back, or if he's ready to go again."
Vientos (hamstring) is slashing .230/.298/.380 with six homers and 21 RBI through 53 games this season. The 25-year-old slashed .327/.362/.636 with five homers and 14 RBI over 13 contests in his first playoff campaign last year.

Vientos has taken 151 at-bats as a third baseman and 34 as a designated hitter this season. Brett Baty will play third base for New York on Thursday, while Starling Marte will be designated hitter.
Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (7-4, 3.04 ERA) will start for the Mets against Braves right-hander Didier Fuentes (0-1, 7.20 ERA).
