Jordan, Syria Explore Deeper ICT Cooperation in High-Level Talks
Ammon News - Jordan and Syria have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of telecommunications and information technology, following high-level discussions held virtually on Monday between the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Samirat, and Syria's Minister of Communications and Technology, Abdel Salam Haykal.
According to a statement from the ministry, the meeting focused on efforts to activate a regional fiber-optic corridor, explore alternative routes for internet and telecom services, and position Jordan as a strategic transit hub for data traffic with a potential capacity of up to 100 terabytes. The initiative would involve linking Syrian and Jordanian fiber-optic networks to enhance service sustainability and regional connectivity.
The two sides expressed shared interest in making Jordan a critical passage for internet traffic transiting through Syrian territory to destinations further south, underscoring the strategic role of infrastructure cooperation in broader regional development.
As part of their plan to foster closer collaboration, the ministers agreed to organize a technical forum in Damascus at the earliest opportunity. The event will bring together private-sector companies from both countries working in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and IT services. It aims to create new channels for business partnerships and investment.
Minister Samirat is expected to head the Jordanian delegation to the forum, which will include representatives from key Jordanian companies specializing in fiber-optic systems, digital platforms, and infrastructure development.
During the meeting, Samirat reaffirmed Jordan's readiness to support the growth of Syria's ICT sector by offering technical expertise and encouraging the involvement of Jordanian firms in future projects.

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the opening of imports for live sacrificial animals from Syria, as part of efforts to boost supply in local markets and stabilize prices ahead of Eid Al-Adha. اضافة اعلان According to the ministry's spokesperson, Lawrence Al-Majali, in a radio statement, importing live Syrian kids (young goats) has been approved and they are now available in local markets as an option for Eid sacrifices. He added that importing live sheep from Syria is currently limited to the military institution only, noting that this decision is part of the ministry's policy to diversify sources of sacrificial animals and reduce pressure on domestic production. Al-Majali highlighted that most sacrificial animals in Jordan are of local origin, in addition to imported animals from countries such as Romania, Australia, and Spain. He emphasized that importing from Syria helps balance supply and demand during the Eid season and enhances citizens' ability to purchase sacrifices at reasonable prices. Sacrificial Animal Prices Al-Majali noted that the livestock market in Jordan is witnessing an unprecedented abundance this year, with about 580,000 heads of local and imported sheep available, while the market demand is estimated at only 250,000 to 300,000 heads. He also shared indicative prices for sacrifices: The average price for a medium-sized imported sacrifice ranges between 200 to 225 Jordanian Dinars. The local sacrifice ranges between 220 to 260 Dinars, depending on supply, demand, and availability. He clarified that these prices are indicative, not fixed, and based on market conditions. Prices usually start to drop after the afternoon of the first day of Eid and continue to decline during the following Tashreeq days. Al-Majali urged citizens to shop around and compare prices before buying, noting that there are over 400 livestock sale points in Amman alone, in addition to other sites across the kingdom.

Jordan approves import of electrical appliances, food from Syria
Ammon News - Jordan has approved the import of a number of industrial products from Syria, easing earlier restrictions by allowing their entry under official import licenses. The decision, issued by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, went into effect on May 7 and involves the exemption of specific tariff lines from a previous ban. These items have now been added to the list of goods requiring import licenses under Decision No. 9. The newly permitted items include household appliances and food-processing equipment such as electric table, floor, wall, window, and ceiling fans with motors up to 125 watts, electric hair dryers, meat and poultry preparation machines, and household food grinders, blenders, and fruit or vegetable juicers with built-in electric motors. Also approved for import are date molasses, machines used for cleaning, sorting, or grading agricultural produce such as eggs and fruits, and devices for processing fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Medical, surgical, and laboratory sterilization equipment were also included. In the food category, the list includes temporarily preserved olives not fit for direct consumption, various non-frozen, homogenized vegetables prepared or preserved without vinegar, acetic acid, or sugar, as well as temporarily preserved cucumbers, gherkins, and other similar produce.
