Martha Stewart Just Revealed Her Favorite Food Country—and Why She's Never Going Back Again

Martha Stewart has a standout favorite destination, but she says she never plans on going back to this place again. In fact, Stewart says that she never likes to visit the same place twice, preferring to branch out to a new destination instead.
Martha Stewart is just like the rest of us when it comes to travel. We all have our favorite destinations we love to rave about, along with a list of destinations we likely will never bother going to again. The only difference for Stewart is that she feels those two things for one single place.
During a recent event to celebrate the launch of Resy's Dream Team Dinners, which pairs chefs with their dream collaborators, Stewart told our friends at People that Japan is her favorite travel destination "by far." And, naturally, it's all thanks to the fantastic food you can get all over the nation.
"I could probably eat a fish tartare every day," Stewart said. "I would probably change the fish from day to day, like between fluke and flounder and tuna and hake. Anything ultra fresh. That would be very good."
Still, Stewart noted that she'll likely never return again. But her reasoning is actually pretty solid.
"I don't travel back to places anymore," Stewart said. "There are still so many places I must see that I don't like revisiting places. Although I do have a trip to Sydney coming up, and I've been there before, after my speaking engagement, we're going to do some sightseeing, see some really good stuff, and make it an adventure."
Though this isn't the first time Stewart has shared her travel secrets. In 2024, she sat down with Travel + Leisure to share a few more of her on-the-go must-haves, including her favorite travel hack: an airport greeter.
"I pretty much always insist on having a greeter [at the airport.] A greeter is my big travel luxury if I am traveling commercial because that greeter facilitates a lot and makes it much, much easier," she shared. They are worth the money and I'm always traveling with other people. It makes it very exciting for all of us."
Stewart also spilled one very fun plane tradition: "We always take playing cards on most trips. It's so much fun to play cards."
And naturally, she has some pretty over-the-top go-to plane snacks, too, because, c'mon, this is Martha Stewart we're talking about.
"I will take homemade yogurt," she shared. "If it's a long trip, I'll take a can of caviar, some brioche." If only one day, she'd let me be her plus-one. See her full interview on T+L, which includes her sharing one of her all-time favorite hotels, here.

Hong Kong Looks for Ways to Win Back Big-Spending Tourists

The sisters from southwestern China arrived in Hong Kong on a recent holiday, aiming to see as much as they could — in less than 12 hours. Carrying only a small bag each, Hu Di, 30, a bank worker, and Hu Ke, 20, a university student, sampled beef noodles in the Central business district, took turns posing for sunset photos at a waterfront promenade, then captured the city's illuminated skyline after dark. Buying only medicinal oils and retro comics as souvenirs, they spent less than $150 in the day and went back across the mainland China border to stay the night. The sisters are part of a wildly popular trend among mainland Chinese who call themselves 'special forces tourists': independent travelers who get in and out of the city as quickly and cheaply as possible. Mainland Chinese make up more than three-quarters of all tourists in the financial hub. But while they were once big spenders in Hong Kong — buying luxury watches, handbags and designer clothes — they now spend less time and money. That is a challenge to the city's efforts to revive a travel economy hurt by years of antigovernment protests, pandemic restrictions and concerns in the West over its tightening of freedoms through a national security crackdown. Hong Kong, which once billed itself as Asia's World City, is now seeking to brand itself as the region's events capital, emphasizing concerts and trade shows over shopping, to give travelers reasons to return and to spend more. This year, it unveiled a $4 billion sports park at the site of the city's former airport, Kai Tak. Its centerpiece is a purple-hued stadium with air-conditioning under each of its 50,000 seats. It was almost at full capacity during an annual Rugby Sevens tournament in late March. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Nagamoto Brings Japanese Zen to Hong Kong Michelin Cluster

In a city that revels in the ostentatious as much as Hong Kong, On Lan Street in Central stands out. Just steps away from the cacophony of Queen's Road, this quiet cul-de-sac is anything but a dead-end when it comes to dining. In just one building there are four different Michelin-starred establishments, including Mono, Arcane and Ryota Kappou Modern. I recently visited Nagamoto, a one-starred restaurant by chef Teruhiko Nagamoto, drawn by their seasonal cherry blossom theme and little risk of an earthquake. Nagamoto goes to considerable lengths to make you feel you've left garish Hong Kong behind, right from the moment staff greet you in the dimly illuminated elevator lobby. Entering the restaurant is like stepping through a portal into a Japanese guest house, decked out in dark wood with minimalist design and subtle lighting. There are just 14 counter seats, making the cooking and the chef the main event. (The decor changes to fit the season, there was a sakura display during our visit.) Reinforcing the point, the staff communicate amongst themselves in whispers.
