EXCLUSIVE I never stepped foot in a gym until age 62... but now people are stunned by my physique
A woman who had never stepped foot in a gym has revealed how she got in shape at age 62... and went on to become the oldest American Ninja Warrior competitor in history.
While actor and former dancer Ginny MacColl, now 73, from Southport, North Carolina, has 'always' been active, for the first 62 years of her life, she had no interest in weight training or working out.
But all of that changed in 2015, when she decided she wanted to get stronger after becoming inspired by her daughter, Jessie Graff, who had participated on the popular sports competition show America Ninja Warrior.
At first, Ginny, who had 'no upper body strength,' said her goal was to do five pull-ups.
She worked tirelessly with a personal trainer and it took a full year for her to achieve her first pull-up.
But now, a decade on, not only can Ginny do numerous pull-ups, but she also works out six days a week and became the oldest competitor in American Ninja Warrior history in 2022.
While chatting with DailyMail.com, Ginny explained, 'I've always done some sort of exercise.
'Mostly dance from age eight to adult when I moved to NYC to become a professional dancer.
But all of that changed in 2015, when she decided she wanted to get stronger after becoming inspired by her daughter, Jessie Graff, who had participated on the show America Ninja Warrior
'In New York, I danced on scholarship and with a modern dance company and then onto Broadway with the hit show, Pippin, in 1974.'
She continued to dance professionally until she got married and welcomed two kids, when she decided to turn her focus to acting and modeling.
She starred in 'over 100 national TV commercials,' but being a busy working mom with two young children meant she had little time to focus on staying active.
'My exercising was limited to what I did with the kids,' she explained.
After undergoing a divorce, she started teaching dance and worked in radio.
She eventually remarried and moved to North Carolina to 'rekindle her acting career,' but at age 62, she discovered a new passion thanks to her daughter: weight lifting.
'My daughter competed on ANW and she was showing young girls how cool it was to be strong,' recalled Ginny.
'I thought she was strong, healthy, confident and graceful and I wanted to get strong too.
'I didn't have the upper body strength and eventually went to a personal trainer with a goal of five pull-ups.'
Ginny admitted that weight training was extremely 'hard' and so 'different from anything she'd ever done before.'
She knew that starting out at that age meant she would have to take it 'slow' and focus on her entire 'body' as to not injure herself.
And while there were times she felt 'discouraged,' she never gave up.
'I'd never been in a gym, never been in sports. So I essentially started from scratch,' she continued.
'It took nine months to see definition and toning. It took a year to get one pull-up.
'[There was] plenty of discouragement because I saw how so many women accomplished a pull-up and why couldn't I?
'But it made me more determined. If they could do it then I could too.'
In 2016, she decided to participate in ANW with her daughter during a mother-daughter segment.
'It's never too late and you're never too old,' she told DailyMail.com. 'Let's get rid of old stereotypes, like: you can't get stronger as you age, or: it's all downhill after 50'
Now, she has been on ANW three times, and in 2022, at age 71, she broke the record as the oldest female competitor on the show.
She has documented much of her fitness journey online, and has seen a resurgence in her acting career in recent years.
She worked as a stunt actor in Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell's movie You're Cordially Invited, and had a small role as a tennis player in the Sex and the City prequel show And Just Like That.
'It's never too late and you're never too old,' she concluded. 'That's why I post my progress on Instagram, so I can show people that you can do a lot more than you think you can.
'Let's get rid of old stereotypes, like: you can't get stronger as you age, or: you'll get too bulky and you won't look feminine, or: it's all downhill after 50.

Here's Where You've Seen The Cast Of Ginny And Georgia Before
Our favourite mother-daughter duo Ginny and Georgia have returned to our screens for a third season, and this time around it's as addictive as ever. As with previous seasons, we can expect plenty more mouther-daughter conflicts, flirting, sex, amazing houses and, of course, murder. 'Season 3 is our most ambitious and explosive season yet,' the show's creator Sarah Lampert old Netflix's Tudum. 'Going into it, we knew our core driving force isn't the plot twists and turns, but the emotional truth of these two women. We care about these characters, they are messy and complicated and real, and that's why we're invested in the wild season they're about to go through.' Season three picks up after Georgia was arrested over the killing of Tom Fuller, and deals with Georgia's murder trial. Everything is turned upside down in Georgia's world as the season wears on, and she begins to prepare for a life in prison. But the end of Episode nine throws all of that into question... Georgia in the present day is played by Brianne Howey. She is best known for her role as Georgia, but since the series launched in 2021 she's also starred as 'Molly Turner' in the Farrelly brothers holiday comedy Dear Santa and as Happy Madison in the Netflix film Kinda Pregnant. Speaking about her character in this season, Howey told Netflix's Tudum 'Georgia is definitely pushed to her limits this season, and she has to survive scenarios she's never had to survive before'' continuing 'Georgia now has to be a survivor with less masks because all of her secrets are out.' Troubled teenager Ginny is played by Antonia Gentry. She is also best known for her role in Ginny and Georgia, although in 2018, she played Jasmine in the romantic comedy feature film Candy Jar. She also has a starring role in the 2024 coming of age comedy Prom Dates. This season, Gentry told Tudum that 'We were able to see a new side of Ginny where she's really coming into her own, and accepting her decisions and standing by them, and making hard choices, but not being riddled with guilt or shame.' Matt Press, often referred to as just 'press' in the show, is played by Canadian born actor Damian Romeo. He started acting around the age of 9, and performed in theatre, cementing his lifelong desire to become an actor. He was described as a 'jerk' on the first two series, and it seems this time around is no different. According to Netflix, we can expect to see more 'taunting remarks' to Ginny about her mum's arrest, and mistreating Abby. PI Gabriel Cordova is a private investigator hired to surveil Georgia, who becomes Nick's boyfriend while undercover as 'Jesse.' He's played by Filipino-Canadian actor Alex Mallari Jr, who is best known for his roles in the TV series Dark Matter and the film The Adam Project alongside Ginny and Georgia. According to Netflix, this season will see Cordova shed his false identity, while his 'vendetta amps up' during Georgia's trial.

Netflix viewers have days to binge 'phenomenal' drama before new episodes drop
Got any nice plans for the week? Maybe a big work project you need to finish or a hot date? Well, cancel them now because there's a new Netflix show coming and you've only got days to prepare. Yes, I know that sounds dramatic, but this isn't any old Netflix show. This is Ginny and Georgia season 3 we're talking about. If somehow, though, you've never heard of the comedy-drama, which is unlikely considering it's one of the streaming giant's most-watched shows, allow us to explain what it's about. The series follows a daughter and mother, Ginny and Georgia, as they try and settle down after years on the run. Sadly, though, Georgia's past has an unfortunate habit of catching up with her, threatening the stability of their new home. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. This all culminated in a dramatic season 2 cliffhanger, which we won't spoil here, but needless it involves a wedding, the police, and a murder. It's basically a slightly pulpier version of Little Fires Everywhere or Big Little Lies in that it's about women dealing with some pretty dark secrets. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Perhaps unexpectedly, considering it's basically a TV soap of sorts, the show has divided critics with the general consensus being it's good, not great. As such, it's only scored a rather middling 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, with its most excoriating critic being Alison Stine from Salon. 'Ginny & Georgia operates in its own universe, one where the rules of physics don't seem to apply,' Stine's review reads. 'Events happen fast and dramatically. Consequences, rarely at all. And in its second season, the show has a major tone problem.' But it does have its defenders, including Kristen Maldonado from Pop Culture Planet, who labelled the show 'fun' and 'enjoyable'. It's also worth noting that the show has a far more respectable audience score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the series has been a huge hit for Netflix. 52 million subscribers watched the first season inthe first 28 days after its release, while globally, people spent 381 million hours binge-watching the mother and daughter's misadventures. More Trending This wasn't a one-off hit either; globally, viewers spent 504.77 million hours watching the second series, which (at the time) made it one of Netflix's biggest shows ever. Since then, fans have spent years waiting to see what's next for Ginny and Georgia, so we're expecting a similar tidal wave of viewers, and you don't want to miss out on the fun, do you? So book that day off, cancel those plans, and settle in for some fun. Ginny and Georgia season three will be available to watch on Netflix from June 5, 2025. Got a story?
