Paul Feig has ideas for third Simple Favor

Perth Now04-05-2025

Paul Feig "definitely" has an idea for another 'A Simple Favor' movie.
The 62-year-old filmmaker has recently released the second movie in the franchise, 'Another Simple Favor' and admitted he "would love" to bring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively back for a third time as mommy vlogger Stephanie and conwoman Emily respectively.
He told People magazine: 'I definitely know where I want it to go.
'We'll see if everybody wants to do a third one. It was too much fun — I would love to get back together with this group and these characters and send them on an even weirder, international adventure, if possible.'
The 2018 movie was set in Connecticut and the sequel is based on the island of Capri, and Paul has plans to take the cast even further afield.
He said: "I think we need to take them out into the world even more.'
Earlier this month, the filmmaker admitted it was an unusual step for him to make 'Another Simple Favor' because he generally doesn't "do" sequels.
Noting he had resisted calls for a second 'Bridesmaids' movie, he told Deadline: "I don't do sequels. Sequels are hard … Audiences, I think, got burned by a lot of sequels. And so the big question for an audience is always, 'Why do I need to see this?' And so you've really got to be able to answer that question.
"This one just felt like, 'Oh, there is a way into this.' Everybody was like, 'How are you going to get her out of prison?' I'm like, 'Come on – Marvel brings people back from the dead. We can get somebody out of prison!"
Yet despite his comments, Paul has also admitted he is open to a 'Spy' sequel.
He told HeyUGuys: "I mean, if there was ever going to be another movie that'll have a sequel, it'll probably be 'Spy'.
"So, you know, never say never."
'Another Simple Favor' cast member Henry Golding reminded Paul that the "conscientious is that 'Spy' has to be remade', to which he replied: "I think it must - it seems to be, yeah, exactly."
After interviewer Freda Cooper said that a sequel can only be made on "one condition" - that Jason Statham will reprise his role as agent Rick Ford - Paul said: "There's no 'Spy' without Jason Statham, and I love him to death.
"He's the greatest."

Mia Goth joins cast of Star Wars: Starfighter

Mia Goth has joined the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter. The 31-year-old actress will reportedly join Ryan Gosling in the upcoming sci-fi movie- which is to be directed by Shawn Levy and is in development at Lucasfilms - and will begin shooting later this year before a May 2027 release, according to Deadline. Little is known about Goth's role in the film - which will act as a standalone movie within the space opera franchise - but it will be set five years after 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, with the director recently revealing it's a whole "new adventure" for fans. As quoted by Deadline, Levy, 56, said: 'There are many rumours, some true, some not. … This is not a prequel, this is not a sequel. It's a new adventure.' Gosling, 44, gushed: 'There is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn." The script comes from Jonathan Tropper, who has spent the past two years working on it. The official details follow a report that Mikey Madison allegedly turned down a role in the film. The 'Anora' actress - who was named Best Actress at this year's Academy Awards - was offered a role in the flick but passed on the part, according to Variety. Levy has been working on the movie with Lucasfilm since 2022. Character and plot details remain unknown but last year, Levy said he is not planning to connect his work to any other films or TV shows in the long-running series. Speaking on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, he said: "I'll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there's only so many times that 'Star Wars' movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it's really forced me, because I don't want to do a 'Star Wars' movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie." The filmmaker - who has teamed up with his The Adam Project co-writer Tropper on the project - added he was making the flick with "tone and characters" at the forefront. He said: "I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves. "And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfilment, that's Star Wars to me."

Jonathan Groff grateful to get older

Jonathan Groff sees every day as a "gift". The stage star turned 40 in March but he feels "privileged" to be around to get older and though his feelings around ageing can be "complicated", his overwhelming emotion is gratitude. Discussing his role as singer-and-actor Bobby Darin in Broadway musical Just in Time, he grew emotional as he told People magazine: "There's a line at the end of the show that I say: 'Every breath we take is a gift we get to open.' "I'm realising that to get older is a privilege. Aging is complicated, and can be confronting. But to be here now is a gift. Every day is a gift." And Jonathan has pledged to use his future birthdays to express his gratitude for life, rather than "make a wish" for the things he wants. He said: 'I was with my family, they were singing 'Happy Birthday,' and I was about to make a wish. And then I thought, 'No more wishes.' "It's just 'thank you,' now. That's it. I don't need for anything. I don't wish for anything. I'm just really grateful to be here.' Jonathan is nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards for Just in Time and making the shortlist means a lot to him because he has been involved with the production from the beginning. He said: 'It's meant so much. We've been developing this Bobby Darin musical for eight years now. So to get six nominations for the show was just phenomenal and incredible. It's been such a long road to get here, and every night at the theater feels like a gift. 'I've never been involved in something from its inception. So there's this extra energy of 'We all made this together,' and the nominations were extra sweet.' Mack the Knife singer Bobby suffered chronic health issues and died in 1973 aged just 37, so Jonathan feels the production has an important message to impart. He said: "His life is operatic. He was told he was going to die by the time he was 16 when he was eight. "And the way we're kind of weaponising his story in our show is: He accomplished a lot in a short period of time because he had this ticking clock. "What we're hoping to give the audience is this message: Life is short. Live it to the fullest while you can.'

Blake Lively praises mom for influence and support

Blake Lively has praised her mom for being a huge influence on her life. The Another Simple Favor actress has expressed her gratitude to Willie Elaine McAlpin for always finding the time to "do creative things" with her throughout her life and always believing in her endeavours. Blake shared a photo of herself smiling with a huge bouquet of flowers and wrote on her Instagram Story: 'Grateful to my mama for always doing creative things with me. "Even when she was working nonstop and had zero time. She always told me I 'couldn't mess it up,' when I very much could. 'What a lifelong gift that creative empowerment and trust has been. Most of my passions come from, or thanks to, her.' Blake - who has four children with husband Ryan Reynolds - had carefully arranged the bouquet herself from flowers she'd grown. She also shared a close-up picture of the flowers and wrote: 'My flower babies, from seeds to cutting, to arrangement. @me for your next graduation funeral or wedding.(sic)" This isn't the first time Blake has honoured her mother recently. While attending the TIME 100 Gala event in New York City, at which she was honoured as one of the publication's most influential people, the 37-year-old star took the time to praise her mom. Alluding to her legal battle with It Ends with Us co-star Justin Baldoni, she said it was "surreal and deeply significant" to be honoured during "a time where the most valuable currency seems to be anger, it feels like an act of defiance to commune and celebrate all the good that is alive in the world." She added: "I have so much to say about the last two years of my life, but tonight is not the forum." Instead, she said she wanted to discuss "the feeling of being a woman who has a voice today." She added: "My mom never got justice from her work acquaintance who attempted to take her life when she was the mother of three young kids years before I was born." Blake said her mom credited a woman who she'd heard on the radio speaking about a "similar circumstance" for offering her hope. She continued: "The woman painfully and graphically shared how she escaped. And because of hearing that woman speak about her experience instead of shutting down in fear and unfair shame, my mom is alive today. She was saved by a woman whose name she'll never know." The former Gossip Girl star ended her speech with a thank you to "every man, including my sweet husband, who are kind and good when no one is watching."
