UN Warns of Repeated Attacks on Gaza's Health Facilities Amid Intensified Israeli Offensive
Ahmed Emam
The United Nations has raised the alarm over repeated attacks targeting health facilities in Gaza, warning that Palestinians are facing widespread Israeli violations.
The warning comes amid what has been described as an unprecedented Israeli military escalation in northern Gaza and the eastern areas of Khan Younis in the south, resulting in extensive destruction of residential neighborhoods.
Israeli military operations in Gaza continue to escalate. The areas of Jabalia al-Balad in northern Gaza and the eastern parts of Khan Younis have become the epicenters of intense fighting in recent weeks, witnessing heavy bombardments and ongoing ground incursions.
The Israeli army has reportedly deployed explosive-laden robots in Jabalia town, sending them into densely populated areas at short intervals as part of complex raid operations.
Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes have carried out severe airstrikes on civilian homes, forcing residents to flee their houses and move westward toward Gaza City, after receiving repeated evacuation warnings through direct phone calls from Israeli forces.
In Khan Younis, particularly in the Ma'an and Sheikh Nasser neighborhoods, massive explosions have been reported due to intense artillery shelling. The Israeli ground invasion is ongoing in the eastern towns of the province.
Nearly all these areas have suffered systematic bombardment and destruction, with estimates indicating that more than 90% of eastern Khan Younis has been almost completely demolished. Areas such as Baten Al-Sameen are currently under further bombardment and bulldozing operations.
The latest developments underscore growing concerns among international organizations over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict.

Israeli forces kill at least 62 in Gaza as strikes continue to hit civilians near aid points - War on Gaza
Israeli forces killed at least 62 people in Gaza on Friday, including 10 who had gathered to receive aid, according to Gaza's civil defence agency. Spokesperson Mahmud Bassal told AFP that they were killed by Israeli airstrikes and gunfire across the Gaza Strip. A day earlier, the civil defence agency reported 56 people killed in another wave of Israeli attacks, including six struck at two separate aid distribution points. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Friday slammed the US and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which set up aid distribution sites across the war-torn strip, calling it "slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid". According to Gaza's Government Media Office, at least 549 Palestinians have been killed and 4,066 injured by Israeli forces over the past month while attempting to access humanitarian aid. In a statement posted to Telegram on Wednesday, the office described the so-called "American-Israeli aid centres" as "death traps and traps for daily mass killing and luring," saying they had become sites of repeated massacres. The statement said the killings occurred as Palestinians attempted to reach food amid "a policy of starvation and comprehensive siege". According to MSF, in the week of 8 June, shortly after GHF opened a distribution site in central Gaza's Netzarim corridor, its field hospital in nearby Deir el-Balah recorded a 190 percent increase in bullet wound cases compared with the previous week. It has also previously warned that aid is being weaponised by Israel to forcibly displace Palestinians as part of a broader campaign of ethnic cleansing. "This initiative seems to be a cynical ploy to feign compliance with International Humanitarian Law," it said, adding that it "uses aid as a tool to forcibly displace people as part of... a broader strategy to ethnically cleanse the Gaza Strip." Earlier on Friday, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that at least 11 people were killed in Israeli air and drone strikes in southern Gaza. Israeli warplanes bombed a tent sheltering displaced families in al-Mawasi, a declared "safe zone" south-west of Khan Younis, while drones struck the Bani Suheila and Sheikh Nasser neighbourhoods. One person was also reported killed in a separate airstrike on al-Qarara. It was unclear whether those casualties were included in the civil defence toll. Gaza's health ministry said on Friday that Israel has killed at least 56,331 people and wounded more than 132,632 others since 7 October 2023, the majority of them women and children. It said 72 people were killed and 174 injured in the past 24 hours alone. "A number of victims are still under the rubble and on the streets, and ambulances and civil defence crews cannot reach them," the ministry said. Abou El-Enein Assumes Egypt's Presidency to Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean
Taarek Refaat In a significant diplomatic milestone, Egypt has assumed the presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), with Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives Mohamed Abou El-Enein, formally receiving the presidency during the 9th Summit of Speakers and 18th Plenary Session held in Spain. The handover comes at a time of unprecedented challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean region, marked by escalating conflicts, mounting humanitarian crises, and growing calls for deeper regional integration. A Call for Shared Responsibility and Regional Unity In his keynote address during the official handover ceremony, Abou El-Enein emphasized Egypt's unwavering commitment since the inception of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) to the principles of shared ownership and collective responsibility. These principles, he argued, are essential for achieving sustainable growth and prosperity for the peoples of the region. 'Egypt has always believed that no real cooperation can take place without laying the foundation for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East,' he declared. 'At the heart of this foundation lies the unassailable right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy.' The summit took place under the looming shadow of the ongoing war in Gaza, which Abou El-Enein described as an 'act of genocide' by Israeli forces. He warned that Israel's continued escalation and disregard for international law undermine efforts to foster meaningful cooperation between member states of the Union. Despite the the union's accomplishments in development and regional integration programs, the Egyptian deputy speaker cautioned that the intensifying regional crisis threatens to derail these gains. 'The current phase is critical. It demands unified efforts and coordinated activities to confront the threats to security and development in the region,' he said. Highlighting Egypt's balanced and proactive diplomacy, Abou El-Enein underscored the country's dual-track approach—both governmental and parliamentary—rooted in dialogue, mutual respect, and regional stability. 'Egyptian diplomacy is founded on the language of cooperation,' he affirmed, noting that parliamentary engagement plays a key role in bridging gaps and fostering consensus among diverse stakeholders. Parliamentary Assembly Echoes Egypt's Stance At the close of the session, members of the PA-UfM issued a strong condemnation of Israel's violations in Gaza, calling for senior Israeli officials to be referred to the International Criminal Court. The Assembly reiterated its support for Egypt's unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue, particularly its categorical rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians and its demand for a sovereign Palestinian state in line with international resolutions. Egypt's new leadership of the Assembly signals not only a shift in parliamentary momentum within the Mediterranean basin but also a reaffirmation of Cairo's central role as a mediator, advocate, and voice for justice in the region. Egypt FM urges halt to Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty urged the international community on Thursday to assume its role in stopping the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, during a phone call with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot. Both ministers discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. They stressed the importance of resuming the ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip. According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty highlighted the intensive efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the US to achieve a swift and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. He also stressed the need to achieve a just and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian cause through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Furthermore, the two sides addressed the postponed UN two-state solution conference in New York. The conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, was initially scheduled to be held on 17-20 June, but was delayed indefinitely due to the Israel-Iran war. During the call, both ministers agreed on the importance of Iran and Israel fully committing to the ceasefire. They emphasized the importance of taking practical and concrete steps that contribute to de-escalation and pave the way for political and diplomatic solutions. The two ministers also discussed strengthening and enhancing the strategic relations between Egypt and France. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
