Lisbon to host meeting to discuss fireworks celebrations
LISBON, Ohio (WKBN)- The Village of Lisbon continues discussions to host its own fireworks celebration this summer.
Thursday night, discussions on how to get a Lisbon-hosted fireworks celebration this summer up and running will continue.
The village has not hosted an event like this in years, and they want to bring it back. WKBN spoke with Mayor Pete Wilson about how the planning is coming along ahead of the meeting. He says, 'So far, so good,' but he says it will take some manpower to make this goal a reality.
'We need volunteers. So I mean a lot of people are in favor of it. how many actually want to participate in the running of it, or helping? That's where it's gonna come down to. If I mean hopefully, the community, in theory, is behind this, we'll see exactly how many people want to do the work,' said Mayor Wilson.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. at Village Hall on North Market Street. Mayor Wilson says the focus will be on volunteer roles and discussing costs.
We spoke with the Mayor about what money has been raised, and how much more they have to go.
Mayor Pete Wilson said the village has already pledged about half the money needed to have the event. The Mayor also said this is the perfect year to start the event back up as we are just one year away from America's 250th celebrations, and the village of Lisbon wants to be ready for its celebrations.
'It's a prelude to next year when our country celebrates 250 years of its founding. So we definitely want to have a big celebration next year in line with the rest of the country. This is a good, let's say, a practice run,' said Mayor Wilson.
Locations for the event are undetermined. They are looking at locations in and around Lisbon.

Waves of Pride among many stories shared in Holland
HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Kate Leighton-Colburn sees stories everywhere she looks. Her job is to help catalogue and preserve them for the Holland Museum. 'Very grateful to be part of this community, working in this community … that I have the opportunity to share the stories of this community,' she said. 'I love stories. I've always loved stories. I think there's always more to do, explore, more to tell.' Just like everyone, Leighton-Colburn has her own story, part of which is represented in museum's Waves of Pride exhibit. On display through the end of June, it describes the history of the LGBTQ+ community in Holland and of local advocacy organization Out On the Lakeshore. ''Holding hands on Eighth Street,'' Leighton-Colburn said, pointing to the title of one of the pieces in the exhibit. 'I love that she chose that because we always talked about when we can hold hands on 8th Street and feel safe and comfortable, we'd feel like we made it.' Waves of Pride: Holland Museum exhibit tells story of LGBTQ community She said she and her wife Marley have seen a change in their community. 'I would've been very afraid to do an interview like this, even just 10 years ago. I feel less afraid now,' Leighton-Colburn said. 'I definitely feel surrounded by love and community.' But, she said, she knows she won't feel that love from everyone. 'There's still a lot of work to do. There's still people who aren't cool with it,' she said. 'But I just try to live my life in a way that both brings me joy and brings others joy, hopefully.' List: Pride Month events in West Michigan 2025 She hopes to teach that perspective to her son Tate. 'I hope that I can teach him to be kind, to know what it means to give joy to others,' she said. 'Empathy, sympathy, love, community, always having an open door.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
