Man (60s) arrested in connection with Creeslough explosion tragedy
The explosion which killed 10 people ripped through the Applegreen service station and an apartment complex on a busy Friday afternoon on October 7, 2022.
A man in his 60s has been arrested this morning by gardaí investigating the explosion in Creeslough, Co Donegal, in 2022 in which 10 people lost their lives.
The man was arrested by gardaí in the North West of the country and is detained at a garda station in the region for alleged offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
'The investigation into the fatal explosion at a building complex in Creeslough, Co Donegal, is ongoing, co-ordinated from Milford Garda station where an Incident Room is established under the direction of a Garda Senior Investigating Officer,' a garda spokesperson said.

The victims of the tragedy are: Leona Harper (14); James Monaghan (13), and his mother, Catherine O'Donnell, (39); Robert Garwe (50), and his daughter Shauna Flanagan Garwe (5); Martin McGill (49); Jessica Gallagher (24); James O'Flaherty (48); Martina Martin (49); and Hugh Kelly (59).

Gardaí confirm theft of cattle trailer in Co. Cavan
Gardaí are investigating the theft of a cattle trailer, which was stolen from a yard in Mullagh, Co. Cavan. According to An Garda Síochána, trailers are one of the most commonly stolen items of farm machinery. They have also indicated that these type of thefts have an 'increased occurrence' in spring and autumn, potentially because of increased farming activity during these months. An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the Hamilton cattle trailer was stolen between 3:00pm on Saturday, June 7 and 10:00am on Monday, June 9. The investigation into the theft is ongoing. Meanwhile last month gardaí reported a decrease in burglaries and robberies in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, when compared to the same period last year. According to provisional crime statistics, the level of property crime has decreased across all crime types in Q1 2025. Gardaí said that aggravated burglaries were down by 29% and residential burglaries dropped by 17% in the period. The provisional data shows that March 2025 had the lowest level of recorded residential burglary since 2021. During Q1 2025, there was an average of approximately 15 residential burglaries per day across the 26 counties, or less than 1 residential burglary per day per county. In the 10 years of Operation Thor, recorded residential burglaries during the winter phase (October – March) have dropped by 75%. Operation Thor actively targets organised crime gangs and repeat offenders through co-ordinated crime prevention and enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest burglary trends.

The senior officer said police did not have specific intelligence that there would be a repeat of the violent PLANNED VIGIL A PSNI spokesperson said: 'At around 7.30pm, a planned vigil gathered in the Galgorm Road area before making its way towards Larne Street, onto Wakehurt Road and then down Queen Street. 'The vigil was initially peaceful as it made its way towards the Clonavon Terrace area of Ballymena. 'Officers were present at the vigil to ensure an appropriate and proportionate policing response, due to the large number of people who had gathered in the area. 'A number of masked individuals then broke away from the vigil and began to build barricades, stockpiling missiles and attacking properties in the Clonavon Terrace area. 'Elements of the crowd then turned on to police and attacked officers with petrol bombs and masonry. 'This disorder was sustained and continued in the vicinity of Galgorm Street, Linenhall Street and Larne Road Link in the vicinity of the Braid.' COPS ATTACKED The statement added: 'Police officers came under sustained attack over a number of hours with multiple petrol bombs, fireworks, heavy masonry and bricks thrown in their direction by masked rioters. 'Fifteen officers were injured with some requiring hospital treatment. 'Two police vehicles were also damaged during the disorder. More than 90 personnel involved in Cab searches targeting suspected drug trafficker
More than 90 personnel were involved in a series of searches by the Criminal Assets Bureau (Cab) in Co Kerry on Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of more than €200,000. The searches carried out on Tuesday targeted the assets of an individual suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. Cab officers, gardaí from the Kerry division, the Garda Armed Support Unit and the Customs Dog Unit conducted searches at residences and businesses across the county. During the operation, Cab officers seized more than €200,000 in cash, electronic devices and 'documents of evidential value', a Garda representative said.
