Egypt welcomes EU ‘positive steps' toward Palestinian cause

Egypt Today22-05-2025

CAIRO – 22 May 2025: Egypt welcomed the significant development in the stance of international actors, particularly their complete rejection of the heinous Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, the use of brutal force against the innocent and defenseless civilians there, and the accompanying implementation of a starvation policy unprecedented in international conflicts.
This change in international stance has been resulted in the recent positive steps, including the tripartite statement by the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, and Canada; and the European decision to review Israel's compliance with Article 2 of the Association Agreement with the European Union, which organizes the EU-Israeli trade ties.
Egypt welcomed the steps taken toward joint recognition of the Palestinian state. Egypt considers that these steps reflect a sound commitment and well-deserved support from the international community for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, of which they have been unjustly deprived for decades.
'This represents the nucleus of a broader international movement required to correct the situation and put an end to the long history of Israeli violations against the Palestinian people,' Egypt said in a statement on Thursday.
Egypt voiced its utter support for these steps and looks forward to taking further steps to stop the Israeli war on Gaza. Egypt also encouraged other countries to support this movement to strengthen the credibility of the rules-based international order and to consolidate the universality of the principles of international humanitarian law.
Egypt affirmed its continued efforts in various forums and with all regional and international partners to address the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, namely Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and the denial of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights.
'This will ensure the fulfillment of their aspirations, most notably their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.'
Reiterating its long-standing position, Egypt emphasized that implementing the two-state solution is the only way to restore stability and security and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East, and that coexistence, based on mutual respect and equal rights, is the best path for the region to embark on new horizons of prosperity and integration.
On May 21, the leaders of France, the UK, and Canada said that they will adopt 'punitive' measures against Israel if the latter did not stop its war against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. They also condemned the language used by some Israeli cabinet members, and announced their support for the recognition of a Palestinian state.
On the same day, the Israeli occupation army opened fire at a delegation of regional, European, and Western diplomats visiting the West Bank city of Jenin. Consequently, the French Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador in Paris.

Hamas Appeals to UN and Security Council to End Gaza Siege

H-Tayea The Palestinian movement Hamas has called for an independent international investigation into what it described as Israel's systematic crimes, urging the prosecution of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders. In an official statement, Hamas emphasized the need for the United Nations and its affiliated agencies to remain the sole legitimate and neutral parties responsible for the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The movement further appealed for an urgent intervention by the UN Security Council and the international community to halt what it termed as 'acts of genocide' and to lift the siege on the people of Gaza. Meanwhile, in a separate development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared in court on Monday for what is known as a 'cross-examination session' as part of his ongoing corruption trial. According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Netanyahu's attorney, Amit Hadad, requested the session be cut short due to an "important diplomatic call." However, he did not disclose the nature of the call and noted that current legal restrictions prohibit him from direct communication with the Prime Minister during the cross-examination proceedings. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

China Offers EU Strategic Trade Deal: Rare Earth Metals in Exchange for EV Market Access

Ahmed Emam Behind closed doors in the heart of Paris, high-stakes negotiations unfolded this week that could reshape the future of East-West trade. China, which controls over 90% of the global production of rare earth elements, has presented a strategic proposal to the European Union: open up the European market to Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in exchange for stable access to critical raw materials. The offer, dubbed a potential 'green channel' for Chinese EVs, comes amid intensifying trade tensions between Beijing and Brussels, particularly over issues of pricing and subsidies in the clean energy sector. China's Ministry of Commerce confirmed in a statement that discussions over pricing commitments in the EV sector have reached a 'critical stage,' though further effort is needed from both sides to reach a final deal. The negotiations took place during a meeting between Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis. While the focus was primarily on electric vehicles, trade friction has expanded to include other sectors — especially French products, which have faced new Chinese restrictions in retaliation for EU anti-dumping investigations. Despite the strain, sources familiar with the talks revealed that a preliminary agreement has been reached regarding these disputed French goods, pending final approval ahead of a scheduled EU-China summit in July. The timing of these discussions is particularly significant, as they come on the eve of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic and economic relations between China and the European Union. The upcoming summit is widely viewed as a pivotal moment: a chance to either reset the tone of economic cooperation or open a new chapter of competition and mistrust. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
