Metcalf, Rodgers building rapport at minicamp

PITTSBURGH (BLACK & GOLD NATION) — If Aaron Rodgers is the new sheriff in town, that makes D.K. Metcalf his first deputy. He's a 6-foot-4-inch 27-year-old all pro who may just be the best receiver to wear a Steelers uniform since Antonio Brown. 'I like his whole personality and his approach and the way he is on the field, his professionalism,' said Rodgers of his new WR1. The Steelers traded for Metcalf this offseason and promptly signed him to a 5-year, $150 million extension. In six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf posted 900-or-more yards in each season while tallying 48 touchdowns. Steelers unfazed by Watt's absence His best season came in 2020 with Russell Wilson at the helm. He caught 83 passes fir 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. Success he hopes he can repeat as he is once again reunited with a former MVP (4x) signal caller. 'How quickly he released the ball and me getting off the line of scrimmage fast, I think is one thing that stands out first,' Metcalf said of Rodgers. 'But also his playmaking ability after a play breaks down or hit him, or contort his arm in a different way just to get the ball out. I think he's unique and I think he's going to help not only me, but a lot of receivers and tight ends and in the offense.' Rodgers and Metcalf began working out in March, months before Aaron had even signed with the team. The two met in California where Rodgers lives, something they both hope to continue before traveling to Latrobe. Rodgers in camp and committed to Steelers 'DK's been blowing me up for a while,' said Rodgers. 'You know, we got to get together out west, but I've gone against him a number of times. He's big, athletic, fast. [He's] got great hands, ball skills.' 'I like the way he views the game from a receiver standpoint, but also from a quarterback standpoint,' said Metcalf. 'I think I can gain a lot of knowledge just from being around him because he's seen a lot of football. So, [I'm] just trying to soak a soak up as much, information and ball as I can.' Toronto Raptors could pivot from Giannis Antetokounmpo trade for this multi-time All-Star

If they got their way, the Toronto Raptors would emerge from this offseason as winners of the potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes. Yet, there's no guarantee the Milwaukee Bucks are even open to trading the face of their franchise. Thus, if the Raptors can't build a trade proposal strong enough for the Bucks to bite, they need to have other options available. However, based on the latest report, the Raptors will indeed be prepared to swing for the fences for another blockbuster trade. Advertisement According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Raptors could be a team that makes a play for 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant. With the Phoenix Suns already widely expected to trade Durant, it only makes sense for Toronto to get a price check on the future Hall of Famer. 'But Toronto has likewise been painted by numerous NBA figures as a potential trade suitor for Durant … particularly if Antetokounmpo doesn't reach the open market. The Raptors, furthermore, would figure to have a more realistic shot at assembling a competitive trade offer for Durant compared to the mammoth offers that the Bucks would inevitably seek for Antetokounmpo's services. The Greek Freak also happens to be six years younger than Durant, is still playing at an MVP level and, most crucially, has two more guaranteed years left on his contract.' Marc Stein on Toronto Raptors' interest in Kevin Durant While Antetokounmpo would be the more celebrated trade, he's also much more expensive to acquire, and that's if he's even remotely available. Thus, trading for a 36-year-old Durant would be far more feasible. Not only would trading for Durant require the Raptors to part with fewer assets, he's guaranteed to be available, unlike chasing after Antetokounmpo, which could result in a gigantic waste of time. Aaron Rodgers to join the Ravens' AFC North rival on a one-year deal

In a move that could make the AFC North the most watched division in football, Aaron Rodgers is set to sign a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gerry Dulac reports. Adam Schefter reports that Rodgers is heading to Pittsburgh and will participate in the team's mandatory minicamp next week. Rodgers' decision has been the largest domino for the Steelers, and now the 41-year-old quarterback will head to the AFC North where he'll matchup with Joe Burrow (Bengals), Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett (Browns), and Ravens MVP candidate, Lamar Jackson. Rodgers now has about three months to build chemistry with new top wideout DK Metcalf and to adapt to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's scheme before the season opens against his former team, the New York Jets, and their former Steelers quarterback, Justin Fields. After missing all but one game in 2023 due to an Achilles injury, Rodgers suited up for all 17 regular-season games with the Jets in 2024. Rodgers completed 368 of 584 pass attempts (63 percent) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
