In 2006, Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara, an adaptation of Othello, gave Saif Ali Khan a role that is considered one of his best in Bollywood.
In 2006, Omkara was born when director Vishal Bharadwaj decided to adapt Shakespeare's Othello. After brainstorming with writer Robin Bhatt, they concluded that Ajay Devgn would be the ideal choice for the lead. Robin, in a recent interview, mentioned that after finalising Ajay and Kareena Kapoor for the main roles, they found themselves in a dilemma when it came to casting Langda Tyagi, as two well-known actors were interested in the part.
Speaking to Friday Talkies, Robin explained, 'Aamir was ready to do the villain's role. The second choice we had was Saif Ali Khan. However, at one point, we decided that Aamir was not the right choice for the film." This led them to offer the part to Saif, though he faced a challenge — he wasn't familiar with the local dialect of western UP, where the story was set.
Robin mentioned that Saif was eager to put in the effort to get into character, so he made a lot of changes, including cutting his hair and hiring a tutor to improve his language skills. 'Saif's problem was the language required here. But then he started going for tuitions, he started training with another, chopped his hair," he recalled.
In Omkara (2006), Saif Ali Khan played Langda Tyagi, a role that was very different from what he usually did. To prepare, Saif worked hard on the local dialect, even traveling to the Maldives and Italy to focus on his character. He practiced a lot with co-star Deepak Dobriyal, who helped him with the language. On set, Saif's hard work paid off. He nailed his lines in the first take, impressing director Vishal Bharadwaj. His portrayal of Langda Tyagi is considered one of his best in Bollywood. Omkara was widely praised by critics for its strong performances, gripping story, and unique take on Shakespeare's Othello.

Ramayana Fact Check: Vivek Oberoi joins Ranbir Kapoor and Yash's film, NO Anil Kapoor and Vikrant Massey

The Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer Ramayana is among the most awaited Indian movies right now. Billed on a huge production cost, the film has an ensemble star cast which includes some of the immensely talented actors from across the nation. As per the media reports, the star cast has gone bigger with new entrants. Known for his brilliant acting skills in Company, Omkara, Krrish 3, and others, Vivek Oberoi has been roped in to play a crucial role in the film. Reportedly, the actor will be seen donning the character of Vidyutjihva, a demon prince from the daitya clan and the husband of Surpanakha, played by Rakul Preet Singh. His character is expected to have a battleground clash with demon king Ravana, being played by Yash. Contrary to the other media reports, neither Anil Kapoor nor Vikrant Massey has joined the mega starcast. They were rumored to be playing the roles of King Janaka and Prince Meghnad in the movie. However, a source close to the development has rubbished the reports. For the unversed, Ramayana is currently being shot on a lavish scale under the direction of Nitesh Tiwari. The movie features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Mata Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. Apart from the lead star cast, the movie has a strong ensemble which includes Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan, Lara Dutta, Amitabh Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor, Kajal Aggarwal, and others. It will be a two-part big-screen cinematic experience. While Ramayan Part One is locked to release on Diwali 2026, Part Two will arrive on Diwali 2027. Interestingly, both parts are currently in production and are being shot simultaneously, in one go. Bankrolled by Namit Malhotra and Yash, the mythology epic drama has a budget of around USD 1000 million (Rs 835 crore), which makes it the costliest film of Indian cinema. Interestingly, this staggering figure is allotted only for the first part. The makers are planning to go global with this epic Indian story and are in talks with a Hollywood studio, Warner Bros. Pictures, to team up for its overseas distribution. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

Ryan Coogler confirms writing a role for Denzel Washington in Black Panther 3: ‘Trying to work with him since day one'

Hollywood star Denzel Washington may finally be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), thanks to filmmaker Ryan Coogler's long-standing vision. The Black Panther director recently revealed on the 7PM in Brooklyn With Carmelo Anthony podcast that he has written a role specifically for Denzel in the third installment of the franchise. "I've been trying to work with him since day one. I think he's the greatest living actor. And in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I've been talking to him about this for a long time, and I was surprised when he mentioned it. But it's not like it's not true," Ryan said. Ryan's reaction was in response to a moment from November, when Washington let slip during an interview that he was involved in the upcoming Black Panther film — a project Marvel has yet to confirm. "I don't know how many more films I'm gonna make, probably not that many," Washington said. "I want to do things I haven't done. I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70 (on Broadway). After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I've been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler's writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I'm gonna do the film Othello. After that, I'm gonna do King Lear. After that, I'm gonna retire," he added. Denzel later admitted that he hadn't meant to reveal his role so early. Speaking on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, he recalled reaching out to Ryan directly. "I called [Ryan] the other day. I forgot what it was about — no, I called him to apologize. That's right. I called him. I said, 'I'm sorry, man.' He's like, 'No, man, it's all good.' I FaceTimed, and right there next to him was his lady. They were editing. They were hanging out," he recalled. Beyond their mutual respect, the Black Panther franchise has a deeper emotional tie to Denzel. Chadwick Boseman, who originated the role of T'Challa and died in 2020 at age 43, once publicly acknowledged the legendary actor's impact on his own journey.
