Nashik district maintains grape export volume at 1.57L tonne during 2024-25 season despite adverse weather conditions

Time of India24-05-2025

Nashik: The district has sustained its grape exports at 1.57 lakh tonnes (MT) during the 2024-25 grape season (Nov-May) and matched the previous season's figures, despite adverse weather conditions.
The Oct 2024 rain had significantly impacted vineyards in the district, affecting grape availability.
A
lthough the agriculture department initially predicted a 20% decline in exports, the district successfully maintained its export volume. Total exports comprised 1.10 lakh tonne to European nations and 47,000 tonne to non-European destinations. The harvest season concluded in the second week of May 2025.
During the previous grape season in 2023-24, Nashik exported the same amount — 1.57 lakh tonne of grapes, including 1.18 lakh tonne to European countries and 39,000 tonne to non-European countries.
State agriculture department officials said unseasonal rains also damaged vineyards in April. "Hence, we initially estimated a drop of over 20% in grape export in the 2024-25 grape season. However, the availability of grapes in the second phase of harvest led the district to match grape export figures of the previous season," an agriculture official told TOI.

Kiran Jadhav, a grape farmer and exporter, told TOI, "After unseasonal rains damaged vineyards to some extent in Oct last year, its effect was seen in Jan this year as harvest began late in the second half of Jan. However, the grape harvest picked up after Feb 15 and was in full swing by the end of March. Thereafter, the grape harvest continued till the first week of May. Hence, the availability of grapes was good during this one-and-a-half-month period, and the grape export of the district could touch the 1.57 lakh tonne mark.
"
Moreover, grape farmers also received good rates for export in Feb and March, which was in the price range between Rs75 and Rs110 per kg. During the same period the previous year, farmers sold at the price range from Rs55 to Rs85 per kg, added Jadhav.
The area under grape plantation in Nashik district is estimated at around 1.60 lakh acres, including 58,000 acres in Niphad taluka, 42,000 acres in Dindori taluka, 32,000 acres in Nashik taluka, and 15,000 acres in Chandwad taluka.
The rest of the grape plantation is located in Bagalan and Kalwan talukas of the district.
Of the 1.60 lakh acres, early grape harvest takes place particularly in the Satana belt during the Oct-Nov period on 7,000 acres, which is 4% of the total grape plantations. Regular grape harvest, which begins in Jan, is taken on 96% of total grape plantations in the district.
In the 2021-22 grape season, the district exported 1.29 lakh tonne of grapes to European and non-European countries. In the 2022-23 grape season, this figure was 1.27 lakh tonne of grapes, including 92,000 tonne to European nations and the remaining 35,000 tonne to non-European countries.

Discom to credit security deposit interest to power bills of 41L consumers in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) will credit around Rs 150 crore in the electricity bills of nearly 41 lakh consumers as a way of paying interests on advance security deposits (ACD) collected by the discom earlier. Advance security deposit is an amount (equal to two average billing cycles) that is charged from consumers at the time of establishing a new power connection or increasing load capacity. DHBVN had collected Rs 2,234 crore from its consumers as advance deposits. In 2022, Haryana's Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) made it mandatory for discoms to review advance deposits collected by consumers. DHBVN then decided to pay consumers interests on these deposits. The interest accrued in a year is supposed to be adjusted in the bills for the customer by the next financial year. But, if the discom fails to do this, the discom will have to pay higher interest – at 18% -- for the delayed time period. "DHBVN has decided to pay interest at the rate of 6.75% per annum on the advance security amount (ACD) deposited by consumers. This Rs 150.8 crore is interest received by all consumers on their security deposits," said A Sreenivas, managing director of DHBVN and secretary of Haryana's energy department. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "The consumption security deposit is collected as per the direction of HERC. On the advance collected by discom, consumers will get annual interest, which will be adjusted against their electricity bills," said a senior DHBVN official. According to the discom, Rs 3,454.7 lakh is to be paid to 6.2 lakh consumers in Faridabad circle, and Rs 5799.5 lakh to 6.3 lakh consumers in the two Gurgaon circles. Earlier, residents challenged the collection of advance security deposits, alleging that multiple such payments were sought. "We already deposited the security amount to the discom at the time of taking the electricity connection, they again took advance security deposit. Despite all this, we continue to face poor quality of power supply," said Pradeep Sharma, a resident of Sector 45 in Gurgaon. Officials had denied this, saying deposits were taken only during a new connection or for increasing load capacity.
