Oil majors seek bids for transport of carbon from Singapore

SINGAPORE : A carbon capture project in Singapore led by oil giants Exxon Mobil Corp and Shell Plc is seeking bids for transport and storage of the gas, as part of the country's efforts to limit industrial emissions.
The S-Hub consortium, which is the lead developer, 'has issued a request for proposal to companies across Asia Pacific for the provision of services to transport and store carbon dioxide,' a spokesman from Singapore's Energy Market Authority said in response to a Bloomberg query.
The feasibility study for the cross-border carbon capture and storage project was started last year, with the aim of storing emissions from sectors such as oil and gas under the seabed or deep underground.
Indonesia and Malaysia are among the few countries in Asia where CO2, once captured, can be viably stored underground.
'Exxon Mobil has secured 'exclusive' rights to CO2 storage in Indonesia and Malaysia,' CEO Darren Woods said in 2023.

Lee, a British-trained lawyer, served as Singapore's prime minister for three decades. Hegseth praised his 'sage leadership and strategic vision'. 'That's what common sense policies can achieve, and that's precisely what President Trump's vision is all about.' Lee, who turned Singapore into a high-tech industrial and financial centre, remains highly revered in Singapore more than a decade after his death. Social media erupted with loud and acerbic criticism of Hegseth's comparison. 'One is historic, the other is hysteric,' said one commenter, while another remarked: 'Trump compared to Lee Kuan Yew? That's like saying instant noodles are the same as fine dining.' 'I felt a tremor just now. Must be LKY rolling hard in his grave,' said someone else on social media, using Lee's initials.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The head of PKR Youth, Kamil Munim, has stated support for accepting former Umno leader Tengku Zafrul Aziz into PKR, saying the move would boost support for the party. Kamil said PKR should be open to taking in professional figures like Tengku Zafrul; the decision would show that the party was continuing to expand its horizons as a mature party, reflecting its readiness to continue leading the nation. 'I believe that Tengku Zafrul joining PKR, which is understood to have been in discussion for more than a year, would allow us to attract support from various quarters as we build a more progressive, just and inclusive nation,' he said in a post on X. 'This is in line with PKR's commitment to politics based on ideas, expertise and integrity. Tengku Zafrul's experiences can offer some added value to PKR,' said Kamil, who is a political secretary to PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as an Umno member yesterday and stated his intention to join PKR. This ruffled some feathers within his former party, with Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki warning PKR against breeding disharmony between the government allies. PKR central leadership council member Adam Adli was quoted by Malaysiakini as expressing concern that ties with Umno would become tense because of Tengku Zafrul's decision. However, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party will consider the input of its government allies as well as PKR's own grassroots in evaluating membership applications, including that of Tengku Zafrul.

Tengku Zafrul's GE15 pledge unenforceable, says Tok Mat
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said he could not see how the GE15 pledge could be enforced against Tengku Zafrul Aziz as he did not win the seat he contested. PETALING JAYA : The review of a pledge signed by Tengku Zafrul Aziz when he was a Barisan Nasional candidate in the 15th general election cannot be enforced because he did not win in the election. Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said Tengku Zafrul was appointed as the investment, trade and industry minister in his capacity as a senator, Bernama reported. 'This matter is not included within the scope of the agreement because Tengku Zafrul did not win in the election. 'That pledge is made by any elected representative as a state assemblyman or an MP. 'If they win, the seat belongs to the party, not to the individual. 'The individual who becomes a candidate and wins signs many agreements, including reimbursing the costs incurred by the party and many other things. 'Tengku Zafrul did not win. He became a minister on the basis of being a senator. So I don't see how the pledge can be enforced against him,' he told reporters after a luncheon in Seremban today. He was commenting on a statement by Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi, who urged the party to take stern action against Tengku Zafrul, who announced his departure from Umno to join PKR yesterday. Puad also asked the party to review the pledge signed by Tengku Zafrul when he was a BN candidate in GE15. Tengku Zafrul lost in the election for the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat. Puad asked the party to study the possibility of demanding RM100 million in compensation if Tengku Zafrul's action is considered as party hopping. Asked whether the resignation would affect Umno, Mohamad, who is also Rembau MP, said Tengku Zafrul did not hold a high position in the party and it would not have a significant impact on Umno. Earlier today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party's legal team would review whether Tengku Zafrul had breached the agreement signed during GE15, which binds candidates to the party.
