Savoy business gets red placard after 5th health department violation
SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — One Champaign County business received a red placard from the health department this week, causing the food service to close, and the health permit to be suspended.
On April 22, Old Orchard Lanes, located at 901 N. Dunlap in Savoy, received a red food inspection placard. The health inspector found two risk factor/intervention violations and one repeat risk factor/intervention violation.

For the fifth consecutive routine inspection, Old Orchard Lanes struggled to keep certain foods at cold enough temperatures. Inside the dressing cooler, the inspector found blue cheese dressing, thousand island dressing and a cup of thousand island dressing above the required 41°F. The person in charge said both dressings had been taken out of the walk-in cooler and added to the dressing cooler around three hours before the inspection. All other items inside the cooler were at or below 41°F.
The vanilla ice cream mix and the chocolate ice cream mix were also found above 41°F inside the ice cream mix holding wells. Both mixes were discarded.
Because this was the fifth time Old Orchard Lanes had cold holding violations, a red placard was posted. This is an 'R4' repeat violation, according to the health department. When an R4 repeat violation is observed, the health authority will pursue administrative and/ or judicial remedies against the food establishment and/or permit holder.

This could include:
Suspension of the Food Establishment's Permit with or without civil fines
Revocation of the Food Establishment's Permit with or without civil fines
An administrative hearing concerning administrative remedies to achieve compliance
Petition for a Temporary Restraining Order and other relief in a court of competent jurisdiction
Petitions for temporary and/ or permanent injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to achieve compliance with the provisions of this Policy and/ or the Health District Ordinance
Criminal proceedings, as described here
Other violations observed during the inspection included 16 pans of mozzarella cheese found without a prep date inside the walk-in cooler and several boxes of food stored on the floor inside the walk-in freezer, the walk-in cooler, and the dough room.

Ringleader of bank fraud and identity theft scheme sentenced to federal prison
GEORGIA () — The final defendant and ringleader of a bank fraud and aggravated identity theft scheme involving stolen checks and a fake online recruiting website was sentenced to federal prison today. Jalen Tylee Hill, aka 'Roscoe Hill,' 26, of Americus, was sentenced to serve 81 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. According to court documents and statements made in court, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from a local church in December 2021 about mail theft and forged checks. During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that numerous checks had been stolen out of mailboxes at residential and commercial locations in Georgia. The checks were then forged and deposited into other bank accounts. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Sumter County Sheriff's Office arrest man on multiple counts of bank fraud; identity theft Investigators discovered that Hill directed the scheme and would recruit people via Facebook and determined that in six months, Hill stole hundreds of pieces of mail, participated in at least 68 incidents of bank fraud, and unlawfully used debit cards belonging to other individuals at least 14 occasions. 'Schemes to defraud and steal from citizens will not be tolerated in the Middle District of Georgia,' said Acting U.S. Attorney C. Shanelle Booker. 'This case serves as a reminder for all of us to be as vigilant as possible with what we share online and monitor our financial accounts. I commend the good investigative work of our local and federal law enforcement partners for helping to prevent any more people and businesses from falling victim to this fraud.' 14 others were also convicted for their participation in the scheme. Crowley man killed in Thursday truck crash in Acadia Parish
CROWLEY, La. () — A Crowley man was killed in a collision with a truck on La. 13 in Acadia Parish, authorities said. The crash claimed the life of Roderick Boullion, 60, of Crowley. Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash shortly after noon Thursday on La. 13 near its intersection with Airport Road. Investigators said a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Boullion was traveling north on La. 13. At the same time, a 2019 Kenworth commercial motor vehicle was traveling south. For reasons still under investigation, the Mercury crossed the center line and into the path of the truck. As a result, the Kenworth struck the Mercury head-on. Close Thanks for signing up! A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Boullion and submitted for analysis.
