Firefighters rescue person trapped in Beverly Grove manhole
Firefighters rescued a man who became trapped inside of a manhole in Beverly Grove on Tuesday.
They were called to the 150 block of S. San Vicente Boulevard at around 3:45 p.m. after learning of the incident, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Upon arrival, they found the man unable to get out under his own power.
SkyCal was overhead as crews helped the man, who was completely naked aside from a blanket provided by firefighters, from the hole and wheeled him to an awaiting ambulance.
It's unclear what injuries the man may have suffered, but he appeared to be alert as he was loaded into the back.
There was no information immediately available on why the man was inside of the manhole in the first place.

'Six fire engines, the aerial unit and scorpion remain in attendance to tackle pockets of fire and make the building safe in challenging conditions. "Road closures remain in place with nearby residents advised to keep their doors and windows shut." A spokesperson for Storage World, the company which runs the unit, said: "Our Middleton store has suffered a serious fire. Authorities are currently in attendance and we will be contacting customers as soon as the situation has settled and we can assess the damage. This will be no later than Friday afternoon. "Please do not contact us directly but wait for us to communicate with you, as this will allow us to manage the current situation and ensure all customers are given accurate information as soon as possible. "More information will also be posted here when available. Please do not visit the store as it is cordoned off by the fire services and customers will not be able to access it for some time. "We appreciate this will be a stressful and distressing situation for our customers. We are doing everything in our power to assist authorities and provide accurate information as soon as possible."

Santa Rosa police: Man in wheelchair attacked with hammer and knife, arrest made
Police in Santa Rosa have arrested an 18-year-old man after he allegedly attacked a wheelchair-bound man with a knife and hammer on Tuesday. Shortly before 4 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of South Wright Road and Finley Avenue on reports of a possible stabbing. When police arrived, they found the 52-year-old victim at the bus stop near the intersection. Police said the victim appeared to have multiple lacerations, contusions, and at least one puncture wound to his arms and a leg. He was transported to a hospital with what police described as "significant" injuries. During an investigation, police learned the victim was sitting near the bus stop when the suspect approached him and pushed over his wheelchair, unprovoked. The suspect then pulled a hammer from his waistband and began to hit the victim on his arm and later used a pocketknife to slash the victim. He left the scene before police arrived. Eyewitnesses provided police a description of the suspect. During a search of the area, police found a man matching the suspect description near Louis Krohn Drive. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Ricky Carver of Santa Rosa, was detained without incident. Police said they located a hammer and pocketknife in his possession. Carver was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators said they also believe Carver may be linked to an earlier incident where a man allegedly brandished a hammer at employees of a retail store in the city's downtown. Police said charges in that case are pending review. Jail records show Carver remains in custody after a judge approved a $200,000 bail enhancement. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

California nudist accused of killing neighbors and drowning their dog over hot dog 'jab'
A California nudist is accused of killing his neighbors, chopping them up and drowning their Shih Tzu after they allegedly mocked him with a $1 hot dog, according to authorities and local reporting. Redlands Police announced the arrest of Michael Sparks, 62, last August – five days after his neighbors went missing. They found the suspect at his home in Olive Dell Ranch, billed as a "family friendly" RV park and a reputed Southern California nudist resort. A cadaver dog alerted police to a bunker underneath the home, where they recovered two bodies, dismembered, mutilated and stored in plastic bags. The victims were Daniel Menard, 79, who suffered from dementia, and his 73-year-old wife, Stephanie. Investigators had to evacuate the scene because they feared it might cave in. They returned with heavy equipment to excavate and collect more evidence. Redlands Police Chief Rachel Tolber told reporters last year that Sparks tried to shoot himself before his capture, but the gun misfired. The dog, Cuddles, remains unaccounted for. At Sparks' preliminary hearing this week, Redlands Detective Thomas Williams testified that he shared details about the slayings with a jailhouse snitch, who alerted authorities, according to the Press Telegram. "He said Mr. Sparks told him the incident started over a hot dog that Daniel Menard had purchased for him," Williams told the court, according to the paper. "He said Mr. Sparks felt that the hot dog was a jab at him, making him feel like he was worth only a dollar hot dog, and that's what set him off that day." Sparks is accused of using a rake, a garden hoe and a hammer to beat his neighbors to death before dismembering them and hiding the bodies in plastic bags in his bunker. The informant also claimed he admitted to drowning Cuddles and leaving her remains for coyotes to eat. Eleven witnesses testified at the hearing, according to court documents, and evidence included crime scene photos as well as texts between Sparks and three witnesses. In one photo, photographed in court by the Press Telegram, Sparks allegedly wrote to a friend, "Chopped up my neighbors. Didn't know I had it in me. SNAPPED." They had alleged disputes over a noisy backup generator, tree trimming and the hot dog. Sparks faces two counts of murder and an animal cruelty charge. He pleaded not guilty at an earlier proceeding and is being held without bail. Judge Alexander Martinez denied a defense motion to keep cameras out of the courtroom. Sparks is due back in court on June 27 for an arraignment.
