Elon Musk's estranged daughter makes bold drag debut at anti-ICE fundraiser in Los Angeles

Mint7 hours ago

ivian Jenna Wilson, the estranged transgender daughter of Elon Musk, made a dramatic and defiant drag debut over the weekend during a politically charged fundraiser in downtown Los Angeles, sending a strong message of identity, resistance, and activism.
The 21-year-old Vivian Jenna Wilson performed at 'SAVE HER! — an Environmental Drag Show', a fundraiser held Friday night at The Bellwether, a venue just blocks from the site of recent protests over immigration enforcement raids. The show, organised by drag environmentalist Pattie Gonia, aimed to raise funds for an immigration legal defense group aiding individuals impacted by a recent surge in ICE activity.
Dressed in a striking black catsuit with a metallic corset, knee-high platform boots, and bold gothic makeup, Wilson waved a trans pride flag as she took the stage to loud cheers. She later described the experience on Instagram as 'fulfilling forever dreams,' and thanked the audience for helping raise money for 'those in need.'
The drag show was staged amid rising tensions in Los Angeles following the June 6 ICE raid at a Home Depot, which triggered mass protests and confrontations with federal authorities. The Trump administration's crackdown, supported by National Guard and US Marines mobilised under pressure from President Donald Trump, has drawn criticism from California leaders, including Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom.
Wilson's performance and political stance continue to reflect the deep divide between her and her high-profile father. Elon Musk has publicly blamed her gender identity on what he calls the 'woke mind virus' and has accused her private school of turning her into a 'communist.'
Wilson has made her rejection of her father equally clear. In a scathing interview last year, she called Musk a 'pathetic man-child'.
For Wilson, the drag show was more than just a debut — it was a statement of personal liberation and solidarity. Her appearance comes at a time when transgender rights and immigration policy are both at the forefront of national debate.

When can the U.S. President deploy military on U.S. soil?

The story so far: Widespread protests have erupted in Los Angeles, California, after raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) led to dozens of arrests. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump has deployed about 4,000 national guard troops and 700 marines. Can military be deployed in U.S.? Military troops, including national guard units, are barred from civilian law enforcement under the Posse Comitatus Act (1878), unless explicitly authorised by the Constitution or an Act of Congress. Such authorisation is provided through the Insurrection Act which permits the President to deploy the military during civil unrest. This can be done at a State's request, or unilaterally to enforce federal law, suppress rebellion, or protect civil rights when a State government is unwilling or unable to act. Notably, unlike other U.S. military branches, the national guard can be deployed by both the States and the federal government. They respond to domestic emergencies, overseas combat missions, counter-drug efforts, and more. Each of the 50 U.S. States maintains its own unit, which typically reports to its respective State Governors and is thus exempt from the Posse Comitatus Act. However, when 'federalised' (called into federal service), these Guards temporarily become part of the 'federal armed forces' and are subject to the said Act until returned to State control. How has it been used in the past? U.S. Presidents have long deployed the national guard for civil unrest, but federalising it to support law enforcement directly against protests began only in 1967. The guard's federalised role expanded in the Civil Rights era, during protests for school desegregation, and the 1965 Selma-Montgomery March. Subsequently, President Lyndon B. Johnson deployed them for the 1967 Detroit Rebellion and after Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in 1968. Richard Nixon and George H.W. Bush have also deployed them during various instances. Is the Governor's consent necessary? Mr. Trump's memorandum, instead of invoking the Insurrection Act, likely due to its widely recognised abuse potential, cites Section 12406 of Title 10 of the U.S. Code. This provision allows the President to call national guard members into 'federal service', under certain circumstances, including rebellion against federal authority. Traditionally, Presidents have used Section 12406 as the procedural mechanism along with the Insurrection Act's substantive powers, invoking both to justify deployment. Interestingly, Mr. Trump has attempted to decouple these authorities. In federalising and deploying the national guard, he appears to rely either on Section 12406 as a standalone power or pair it with claimed 'inherent' constitutional authority (Article II of the Constitution), citing his Presidential duty to protect federal personnel, property, and functions. For active-duty military deployment, he seems to lean solely on inherent constitutional power, as Section 12406 does not authorise using active-duty armed forces for such purposes. However, this employed legal framework lacks the 'unambiguous authority' that the Insurrection Act provides to engage troops. Under Title 10, the President's authority to deploy the national guard without the Governor's consent is ambiguous — while the first part of the provision allows federalisation, another mandates that orders 'shall be issued through the governors'. On June 9, California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Governor Gavin Newsom sued President Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, calling the unilateral federalisation of California's national guard an 'unlawful' overreach. How does it work in India? Article 355 of the Constitution mandates the Union to protect States against 'external aggression' and 'internal disturbance'. This allows the Centre to deploy the army even without a State's request. While 'public order' is a State subject, the Union can deploy armed forces to aid 'civil power' under Entry 2A of List I. In Extra-Judicial Execution Victim Families Assn. versus Union of India (2016), the Supreme Court held that armed forces deployment supplements, not supplants, a State's continuing civil power. Crucially, deployment must be withdrawn once normalcy is restored; normalcy not being restored cannot serve as a fig leaf for prolonged, indefinite, or permanent military presence. KATSEYE's Lara reported to ICE by anti-fan amid US immigration raids; Eyekons react with anger

Lara Rajagopalan, an Indian-origin American and a member of HYBE's Los Angeles-based girl group KATSEYE, was falsely reported to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The report, allegedly filed by a K-pop fan, appears to be the result of rising tensions from ongoing fan wars on social media. A netizen on X (formerly Twitter) has come under fire after falsely reporting Lara as an undocumented immigrant. The claim surfaced during a period of increased immigration enforcement in the US, amplifying anger among fans and drawing sharp criticism across social media platforms. ICE raids intensify under Donald Trump's deportation push The timing of the incident aligns with a sweeping immigration crackdown under the Donald Trump administration, which is being described as the most extensive in US history. The operation sets a goal of 3,000 daily arrests, concentrating efforts on Democratic-led cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. The expanded scope of ICE activity—reaching into private homes, public spaces, and even courthouses—has drawn sharp criticism for bypassing due process and disproportionately targeting minorities, including US citizens and Indigenous communities. Lara Raj's legal status confirmed; fans defend her As a verified US citizen, Lara was the subject of a baseless and potentially harmful accusation. The false report not only misrepresented her legal status but also risked affecting her career and personal well-being. Outraged by the act, fans quickly responded, highlighting the seriousness of such misinformation. KATSEYE's dedicated fanbase, Eyekons, has since taken action by reporting the account responsible and rallying in support of Lara. ‼️⚠️ PLEASE REPORT THIS ACCOUNT !! they had sent a tip form to I/CE to get them to detain Larahttps:// please help us Eyekons and whatever fandom can help us to get them taken down. ILLIT fan allegedly behind the report The incident has caused tensions between KATSEYE and ILLIT fandom. The user who filed the false ICE report was seen using a profile image of ILLIT's Wonhee, leading to speculation that the move was tied to fan rivalry. While it remains unclear whether the individual is genuinely connected to the ILLIT fandom, many see the act as a dangerous example of how far fan conflicts can escalate in the digital space. do you know how fucking sinister and mentally deranged you need to be to do something like that to lara That's why fanwars are so weird to me. Some of y'all are deranged and take ts too seriously... BTW THE ACCOUNT IS GONE WE DID OUR JUSTICE!! I think it's weird as fuck some tried reported lara from katseye to fucking ICE????? Like what the fuck is wrong with you? Like genuinely. Fans demand action from HYBE In the wake of the incident, fans are demanding that HYBE take swift and decisive action to protect Lara and other artists from harmful false reporting and online harassment. Many believe that involving federal agencies in such malicious acts is a serious offense that warrants accountability. The controversy has also reignited broader conversations about the safety of idols, the role of fandoms in fostering a healthy environment, and the responsibility of entertainment companies to intervene and prevent further harm. Two-time World Series champ takes bold stand against Donald Trump's immigration policy amid California protests

Kike Hernandez lashes out at Trump's 'violating' immigration stance (Getty Images) As protests continue to surge across California in response to the controversial immigration crackdowns, Los Angeles Dodgers veteran Kiké Hernández has stepped forward with a powerful message. In a heartfelt statement, the Puerto Rican-born baseball star criticized Donald Trump's handling of the situation, expressing solidarity with immigrant communities facing what he described as ongoing 'violation' and 'abuse.' Donald Trump's immigration crackdown blasted by MLB star as 'abuse' of power Over the past two weeks, Trump's administration has drawn heavy backlash for deploying masked federal agents across California, arresting and deporting individuals without due process. The sweeping arrests sparked an outpouring of protests statewide. Rather than de-escalating tensions, Trump doubled down by sending the National Guard—bypassing California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was neither informed nor consulted about the action. Among the many speaking out, Hernández has emerged as one of the first high-profile athletes to directly address the growing crisis. 'I may not be born and raised here, but this city adopted me as one of their own. I am so sad and enraged by everything that is happening in the country and in our city,' he shared. 'Los Angeles and Dodger fans have welcomed me, supported me, and shown me nothing but kindness and love. This is my second home.' His frustration didn't end there. In an unfiltered show of support for the immigrant community, he added, 'I cannot tolerate watching our community continue to be violated, attacked, abused, and torn apart. All people deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and their human rights. I stand with you #CityOfImmigrants.' Just two months earlier, Hernández and his teammates had visited the White House following their World Series win. That visit took a strange turn when Trump asked star pitcher Shohei Ohtani to pose with the Declaration of Independence—an odd moment that now feels more surreal given the tense political backdrop. Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom didn't hold back when voicing concern over Trump's recent behavior. Speaking with FOX News, Newsom stated, 'He is not the same person that I dealt with just four years ago. He is incapable of even a train of thought. He's making things up and he's putting people lives at risk.' As tensions between California's leadership and the federal government escalate, Trump remains defiant. 'We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California,' he declared. With the nation watching closely, voices like Hernández's are increasingly important in amplifying the concerns of communities that feel unheard and unprotected.
