Artist Mr. Brainwash Has a New Car-Themed Exhibit at Petersen Museum
Just to your right as you enter the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, inside the Armand Hammer Foundation Gallery where all the 'artsy' exhibits go, is a really fun, or maybe really weird new exhibit.
Depends on your point of view.
'Cars Are Beautiful: Mr. Brainwash @ the Petersen,' is a whimsical collection of artworks, both paintings as well as cars and a few things in between, that will have you either laughing in bemusement or tearing up your museum membership card and demanding a refund. But it's almost certainly the former.
The museum calls it 'a fully immersive celebration of the automobile through the lens of contemporary artist Mr. Brainwash, including imaginative interpretations of iconic cars, engaging hands-on pieces, and an explosion of colors and unique creations.'
Consider some of the the exhibits, as the Petersen describes them:
'Brainwashed,' a life-sized interactive Matchbox Fiat 500, offers an ideal photo opportunity.
'Furry Fiat,' a Fiat 500 covered in pink faux fur, provides a tactical experience.
'Dream Car' is a sculpture divided into four sections, each representing a different luxury brand: Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Ferrari. It fuses these four iconic vehicles together into what Mr. Brainwash envisions as a car enthusiast's dream.
'Rubik's,' a massive Rubik's Cube with each cube filled with multi-colored cars.
'Time Machine,' a Mini Cooper completely surrounded by books, symbolizes the spirit of adventure and freedom while highlighting the deep connection between books and cars.
'Childhood Dream,' an interactive display inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, turns a bedroom into a fully immersive space.
'The Thinkcar,' an interpretation of the iconic 'Thinker' sculpture by Auguste Rodin with a creative automotive twist.
'Big Little Car' pays homage to the nostalgic Little Tikes child's car scaled up to 10 ft. tall.
'Tired Victory' reinterprets the 'Winged Victory of Samothrace' from the Louvre, using real tires to bring new life to this ancient symbol of triumph.
Plus more than a dozen iconic paintings with hidden automotive touches.
My favorite is the Brainwash takeoff on Van Gogh's 'Bedroom in Arles.' The original painting on which artist Thierry Guetta, AKA Mr. Brainwash, based this work has brilliant blue colors depicting the simple, minimalist bedroom at 2, Place Lamartine in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
Guetta, who was born in France but now lives in Los Angeles, does a remarkable full-sized, three-dimensional recreation of the room and the beautiful colors from the painting (I happened to see it a few months ago in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, btw).
But in place of Van Gogh's simple bed, Guetta has placed one of those kiddie beds shaped like a race car. It's so cool you want to curl up in it and go to sleep, dreaming of racing.
Guetta is a well-established character in the art world. His website, mrbrainwash.com, lists a few accomplishments: 'Mr. Brainwash has designed album covers for Madonna, Rick Ross, and KYGO. His artwork was featured in films and television productions such as Molly's Game, Billions, Shameless, and The Kardashians.
'Mr. Brainwash's talents are showcased in creative partnerships with powerhouse brands like Hublot, Coca-Cola, and Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee. He also collaborated with world-known soccer player Pelé, who joined the artist in splattering paint on select artwork.'
He seems to be having a good time.
'This is truly a dream come true. I'm honored to have my very own display at the Petersen,' he said. 'Seeing the joy in everyone's eyes is priceless for me. I wanted this display to have no limitations so everyone can be one with the art.'
The Petersen describes Guetta's approach thusly: 'His distinctive style blends graffiti, printmaking, stenciling, painting, and sculpture. Mr. Brainwash's artworks are known for conveying a sense of playfulness and wonder.'
The museum, for its part, seems to be enjoying the whole thing, too.
'This exhibit is unlike anything we've ever done before," said Terry L. Karges, executive director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. 'Mr. Brainwash's creativity offers an unparalleled and exciting perspective on cars, and we love having our visitors get up close and personal with these works of art.'
'Cars Are Beautiful' will be on display until 2026. To purchase tickets or for more information about the Petersen, go toPetersen.org/exhibits.

Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham Says ‘More People Should Talk About' How ‘Exhausting' Motherhood Is
Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham wishes more people would be open about how exhausting motherhood can truly be. 'Thank God she is the utter joy of my life because it is unyielding responsibility,' Waddingham, 50, told The Sunday Times of her 10-year-old daughter in an interview published on Saturday, June 7. 'I feel like more people should talk about how exhausting it is,' she added, chuckling. 'Not only physically showing up for them but being the best version of yourself, because they respond to actions far more than words.' Waddingham, who does not name her daughter publicly, told the outlet that she decided she wanted to have a child when she was single in her 30s — but that the path to parenthood was a difficult one. The Best Celebrity Parenting Quotes of 2024, From Angelina Jolie to Ryan Reynolds 'I was told I couldn't have children and then I went down the eastern medicine route, had my body balanced out,' she explained. On her 40th birthday, after conceiving her daughter without any medical intervention, she took her baby girl home. Later, Waddingham separated from her daughter's father, Gianluca Cugnetto, an Italian businessman. At 50, she's raising her daughter as a single mother, telling the outlet that after her daughter suffered a health scare when she was 3 she only picks jobs that work with and for her life as a single mom. '[She's] my greatest champion and my most horrific critic,' Waddingham said of her daughter, who is now also showing an interest in the entertainment business after starring in a school production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. 'She feels such a sense of vitality from that, which I love, but I just want her to know that for 22 years I would be on stage thinking, 'Am I going to make the last Tube?' the proud mom says of her own struggles to make it in Hollywood before landing her breakout role in Apple TV's hit series Ted Lasso. Jason Sudeikis' Rare Quotes About Fatherhood While Coparenting With Ex Olivia Wilde: 'Being Present Is a Good Quality' 'I need her to be aware that I really grafted for 22 years,' she added. 'Life is not being picked up by a black Mercedes.' After more than two decades struggling to make it as an onscreen actor, the work has more than paid off — especially when it comes to what her newfound fame has made possible for her family. 'I've just become more known,' Waddingham said. 'Being afforded the luxury of the kind of roles that I always knew I could play and, as a single mum, the luxury of being able to put my daughter in great schools. It does give you freedom. I genuinely don't give a s*** about fame. I never have. I never will.'

Mercedes-AMG Unleashes Special Edition Flagship SUV Limited to 450 Examples
Mercedes-AMG Unleashes Special Edition Flagship SUV Limited to 450 Examples originally appeared on Autoblog. The Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 already sits at the top of the Mercedes SUV food chain. The V8-powered monster commands an awesome $150,650 to start, with no shortage of ways to send that price tag even further into the stratosphere. But when you're already spending that kind of money, why not opt for something less than 500 people worldwide can claim access to? We can't really relate, but it seems Mercedes thinks there are at least a few hundred people who see it that way. Thus, Affalterbach introduced the 2026 AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As opulent as it is long-named, the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition touts tons of details that separate it from the flock of GLS SUVs you may or may not see on your morning commute. Perhaps most obviously, it wears Manufaktur Cirrus Silver Magno paint, a hue apparently exclusive to the model. Red and black accents dot the otherwise almost subtle exterior, with massive 23-inch wheels bearing red accents along the rim and center caps, accenting the red-painted calipers. Other blacked-out accents come courtesy of the included AMG Night Package. While not exclusive to the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition, it goes a long way here with the special red accents. The tailpipes wear a dark chrome finish, and the roof rails are painted matte black. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition also benefits from a front splitter, air inlets, and wing mirrors painted glossy black. Inside, the red and black theme continues. Arguably, the prettiest highlight is the red-accented carbon fiber dash trim, exclusive to the Arctic Silver Edition. For upholstery, the special GLS 63 dons Carmine Red and Black Nappa leather. An AMG Performance steering wheel, Manufaktur black door sills with edition-specific AMG lettering, and ultra comfy deep-pile floor mats round out the ultra-special additions for the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition. In case you somehow forgot, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 gets motivation from a rowdy biturbo 4.0-liter V8 making a respectable 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels, allowing the behemoth to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in a Mercedes-estimated 4.1 seconds. Of course, in this arena, you gotta bring the big guns. Close competitors include the BMW ALPINA XB7, which manages 631 horsepower, and the Range Rover SV, which makes do with 606 horsepower. It's crowded at the top. Mercedes has made it a tradition not to release pricing on these special Manufaktur Edition cars, and the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition is no exception. One thing is for sure: it won't be cheap, as checking a few Manufaktur boxes on the regular SUV sends the MSRP deep into $170k territory. There is some comfort if you're in the market, however. It seems unlikely that the AMG Manufaktur model will topple the Maybach GLS 600, which starts at $178,450 and permanently occupies the highest rung of the GLS ladder. After all, we don't want any Maybach buyers thinking they're getting the cheap version.
