JOSH MCEACHRAN has woken up unemployed following Oxford United's brutal end-of-season cull.
The former Chelsea star, who was once compared to Luka Modric, joined the U's in the summer of 2023 on a one-year deal following the expiration of his contract with MK Dons.

He inked a second-straight one-year deal with the club following the culmination of the 2023/24 season.
But the U's brass have opted NOT to hand the Oxford-born midfielder a new deal following their first season back in the Championship in 25 years.
An excerpt of a club statement read: "Oxford United have confirmed the list of players to be retained and released following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
"Josh McEachran, Joe Bennett, Max Woltman, Eddie Brearey and George Franklin will depart the Club following the expiration of their contracts this summer."

Oxford's Head of Football Operations, Ed Waldron, said of the departures: 'I would like to offer my thanks to each of the players departing the Club.
'Both Joe Bennett and Josh McEachran have played important roles in the progression of Oxford United over the last few years, helping to deliver promotion and then stabilise the Club in the Championship.
'Their quality and experience have been crucial in our development, and I'm certain both will be real assets to whichever club they continue their fantastic careers with.
'Max Woltman has been through an incredibly difficult period with the Club due to injury.

"Despite this, he has been an extremely popular figure at the Training Ground, and I want to wish him and the rest all the best going forward.
'The recruitment process has been in motion for several months for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

"We will continue to look at ways to improve the squad to build on what was a successful first campaign back in the Championship.'
McEachran has bounced from club to club after leaving Chelsea in the summer of 2015 following FIVE loan moves in five years.
Many at Stamford Bridge had high hopes for the midfielder, who made 22 appearances for the club, including former manager Andre Villas-Boas.
In August 2011, the Portuguese gaffer said of McEachran: 'This is a youngster with so much talent.
"Physique-wise, there is nothing to him at the moment.
"In the changing room you see him getting ready to go and train and he looks nothing like a footballer.
"His power and pace is in his head. But you could say the same about Luka Modric, Jack Wilshere or Samir Nasri.
" All are built with slight physiques but they are all among the finest midfield players in the world.
"Josh is going that way. His brain is always five yards ahead of the rest.
"I see in him very much as part of the future of this club.'

Jadon Sancho left sweating on Chelsea transfer as perfect Man Utd option emerges
Manchester United may have another avenue to facilitate a Jadon Sancho transfer exit from Old Trafford if Chelsea are successful in their bid to sign a winger this summer Chelsea could still hold the key to Jadon Sancho's future, even after deciding to not to make the Manchester United winger's loan move permanent. The Blues opted to pay £5million to the Red Devils in order to avoid signing Sancho after being unable to come to terms with the 25-year-old. And as Chelsea look at alternatives to reinforce their options on the wing, one could yet impact the United ace. The west London side are among those looking to secure a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens. The 20-year-old is already said to have agreed a seven-year deal with Enzo Maresca's team as they attempt to persuade Dortmund of the move. Chelsea have already tabled a bid of £29.5million as they rush to get a deal done in time for the Club World Cup; the first part of the transfer window closes on Tuesday. Gittens scored 12 goals and made five assists last term as he lit up the early parts of the Champions League by bagging four goals in the opening five matches. The ex-Manchester City youngster still has three years remaining on his contract and a £50m release clause however. Crucially, Dortmund will require a replacement if Gittens does depart. Sancho could prove to be an option to arrive for his third spell with the club. The England international arrived at Old Trafford from Dortmund in a £73m deal and returned to the Westfalenstadion on loan in January 2024 after falling out with Erik ten Hag. Sancho has little future at United. Dortmund have asked to be kept up to date on any developments over Sancho's future, per reports, and are one of a number of clubs around Europe interested in a deal. The player's salary could yet prove problematic for United getting the player off of their books however and another loan could yet be looked at. Sancho helped Chelsea win the UEFA Conference League and qualify for the Champions League as he made 45 appearances. But his five goals and 10 assists reflected a steady season rather than spectacular one. Any move from Dortmund would likely first require Gittens exit. The Bundesliga giants are also looking to sign Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland with a £31m deal said to be agreed. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl has admitted that Gittens has drawn interest. However, the former midfielder has also warned the club are looking to reduce their wage bill. He said: "There's definitely a market for him [Gittens]. He's a very exciting player. We'll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we'll have to deal with them." "We want to reduce wages," Kehl added. "That said, it's possible we'll continue with some of these players. But some may no longer be part of the BVB squad next season." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
