Metanoia's O-RU Successfully Completes End-to-End OTA Validation at VALOR RF Anechoic Chamber
First product validated at the VALOR lab's new RF-shielded anechoic chamber
CHANDLER, Ariz., May 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- VIAVI Solutions Inc. (VIAVI) (NASDAQ: VIAV) today announced that Metanoia Communications Inc.'s JURA Open Radio Unit (O-RU) has successfully completed end-to-end over-the-air (OTA) validation at the VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service (VALOR™). It is the first product to be validated at the lab's new RF-shielded anechoic chamber to ensure compliance with O-RAN and 3GPP specifications.
VALOR is an automated Lab-as-a-Service for Open RAN testing and is funded by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund. The VALOR lab officially opened on October 7, 2024 in Chandler, Arizona, with the RF chamber and two additional customer labs added to the facility on April 3, 2025.
Metanoia's O-RU underwent end-to-end performance validation to ensure seamless integration into Open RAN networks, with tests using reference O-CU and O-DU components provided by VALOR and its partners. Tests were conducted over the air within the RF chamber, with VALOR evaluating key performance metrics under realistic radio conditions. Additionally, O-RAN end-to-end functional and performance validation was carried out based on O-RAN TIFG-defined test cases. These tests assessed the system's behavior across the control, user, and management planes, ensuring compliance with key O-RAN architectural and performance requirements in an integrated multi-vendor DU/RU setup.
"The successful validation of Metanoia's O-RU using the new anechoic chamber is an important milestone for VIAVI and the VALOR lab," said Erik Probstfield, Senior Director, VALOR, VIAVI. "Open RAN-based systems are set to significantly increase telecoms innovation, but a network is far too complex an environment to rely on trust alone. VALOR, especially with its OTA testing, allows companies such as Metanoia to independently validate the functionality and performance of their hardware, and gives network operators assurance that it will integrate seamlessly into their existing networks."
"Metanoia is proud to remain at the forefront of 5G innovation, building on our longstanding partnership with VIAVI's VALOR Lab," said Didier Boivin, Executive Vice President, Metanoia. "The state-of-the-art OTA chamber, coupled with the company's extensive testing experience, represent an invaluable resource as we advance our leadership in the Open RAN ecosystem."
Metanoia's JURA O-RU is a 4T4R 24dbm 5G FR1 radio unit that supports operation in the sub-6 GHz bands using TDD duplexing. It harnesses the power of its advanced Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform to deliver a flexible, high-performance Open RAN solution for 5G deployments. By combining powerful hardware acceleration with open-source adaptability, JURA O-RU facilitates efficiency and innovation in next-generation wireless networks.
The VALOR RF chamber is the industry's first Test-as-a-Service offering for Massive MIMO and beamforming OTA validation. It creates a controlled environment that is free from outside interference and emulates multiple real-world scenarios by sending wireless signals to understand a device's behavior. Created in partnership with ETS-Lindgren, services offered include system-level Massive MIMO performance testing for up to 16 parallel spatial layers.
VALOR enables independent and impartial interoperability, performance, and security testing leveraging VIAVI's industry-leading NITRO Wireless Open RAN Test Suite and the VAMOS unified framework for hybrid physical and cloud-based testing. Customers can access over 500 test cases compliant with O-RAN WG4, WG5, WG11, TIFG, and 3GPP specifications. VALOR facilitates better readiness for the certification, badging, and acceptance tests at OTICs and CSP labs. It provides services to members of the AI-RAN Alliance and customers referred to the lab by AT&T and Verizon's ACCoRD, and is the first test service to be authorized by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) for its system performance certification program.

Gemini now rivals ChatGPT in another key feature — here's how to schedule AI tasks
Google's Gemini app is evolving to become more proactive. Starting today, some Gemini users can take advantage of a new feature called "Scheduled Actions" which lets the AI assistant handle recurring or time-specific tasks automatically. Announced during Google I/O and now rolling out to both Android and iOS users, Scheduled Actions allows users to tell Gemini exactly what you want it to do and when. Now, whether it's a weekly blog brainstorm, a daily news digest or a one-time event reminder, Gemini can take care of it without you having to ask twice. Similar to ChatGPT's Tasks, Scheduled Actions let you automate prompts withinthe Gemini app. You can say things like: Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Once you set a recurring task, you can manage it anytime from the Scheduled Actions page in the Gemini settings menu. This puts Gemini in closer competition with ChatGPT's memory and third-party integrations, offering a more personalized and hands-off experience that Google says will help users 'stay informed, inspired and on track.' ChatGPT Tasks lets users schedule everything from daily reminders to appointments within the ChatGPT app. The reminder is then sent in the app as well as via email. But what makes Gemini's new Scheduled Actions competitive is that it is built directly into the app and works within the Google ecosystem, letting users automate recurring prompts and get proactive updates without workarounds or leaving Google Workspace. This could be a game-changer for those who regularly use Gmail, Google Docs and more. If you aren't seeing the Scheduled Tasks page yet, it's because not everyone has access to it immediately. The feature is rolling out now for users with a Google AI Premium subscription or qualifying Google Workspace business or education plan. That means users on lower tiers might need to stick to ChatGPT Tasks for now; you won't see the Scheduled Actions option yet. However, knowing how Google often gives away some of their best features for free, I can only assume that the rest of us won't be waiting long to give it a try. Gemini has evolved quickly with new live conversation features, video generation options and deeper Google app integration. This latest feature sounds promising and one users have wanted for a while: true automation without needing third-party tools or scripting. Scheduled Actions essentially turns Gemini into a personal AI scheduler that does more than respond to prompts and remembers to actually act on them for you, underscoring that we are that much closer to autonomous AI. If you've ever wanted your AI assistant to be a little more like a real assistant, this is a big step in the right direction—as long as you have the right monthly subscription.

Analyst Says Alphabet (GOOG) Trading at ‘Huge Discount' – Believes It Can ‘Absolutely' Compete with ChatGPT
Ted Thatcher, president of Bright Lake Wealth Management, explained in a recent program on Schwab Network why he is bullish on Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and mentioned some of the key growth catalysts for the stock: "At least from a price to earnings ratio, you know, Google's trading around 18 times earnings. If you look at that compared to the other mega caps, it's like at a huge discount. And I understand we've had these concerns about whether Gemini versus Chat GPT usage is competitive or not. But we have to remember, you know, look at Google's revenue. Look at what happened out of their earnings calls. Even their blue link search revenue was up 10%. And then you look at Google more broadly, they have 270 million users, paid subscribers, between their YouTube platform and their Google One platforms. And so when you look at that level of user control that Google has and then you pair that with everything that they just announced at I/O with all these essentially AI apps, some of them authentic, some of them are AI mode with Google Search, you know, I think Google is going to be able to absolutely cram down Gemini through those users' throats, essentially, and absolutely compete with the Chat GPT user growth." Alphabet posted strong quarterly results, but the market remains reluctant about the stock amid threats to its search business due to the onslaught of AI tools like ChatGPT. However, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) bulls believe these concerns are overstated. Google has an edge over competitors because it's easier for the billions of users of its search engine to switch to Gemini instead of opting for a completely new model. Google has over 1.5 billion monthly users interacting with its AI-powered Search overviews. OpenAI, Alphabet's biggest competitor now when it comes to AI search, has less than 5% of its users paying, and its business model is still developing. Google's first-quarter results showed continued strength in its cloud unit, with revenue up 28% year over year and solid operating income growth. This supports Google's broader AI strategy and underscores the scale advantages of its cloud business. RiverPark Large Growth Fund stated the following regarding Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) in its Q1 2025 investor letter: 'Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) shares declined in the first quarter despite solid business fundamentals. Investors reacted negatively to the company's AI product rollout relative to peers, expressing concern about potential market share loss in core search and cloud segments. Nevertheless, Alphabet continues to deliver strong cash flow from its dominant search and YouTube platforms while investing aggressively in its next-generation AI and cloud infrastructure. Trading at a valuation discount to many of its peers, we view Alphabet as a core holding with compelling upside as monetization of its newer initiatives accelerates.' READ NEXT: and .
