Mother-son duo sentenced to life in widow's killing case
Aurangabad: Aurangabad district and sessions court on Monday sentenced a woman and her son to rigorous life imprisonment for the murder of a pregnant widow in Goh block. Calling the act "shocking to both society and humanity," judge Nishit Dayal (Sessions Judge–VII) delivered the verdict after holding the accused guilty on May 24.
The convicts—Kaushal Kumar and his mother Chandramani Devi—were found guilty under IPC Section 302 (murder) and sentenced to life imprisonment with rigorous labour and a fine of Rs 50,000 each. In case of default of payment, they will face an additional one year of simple imprisonment. Under IPC Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), both were sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 each, with an additional six months of simple imprisonment in case of non-payment.
The sentences will run concurrently.
According to govt prosecutor Satyendra Kumar Singh and advocate Satish Kumar Snehi, the victim, a widow from Charakawan village, was in a relationship with Kaushal and had become pregnant. She had allegedly been pressuring him to marry her, which led to tensions. On June 21, 2022, Kaushal, with his mother's help, killed the woman using a sharp-edged weapon and later disposed of her body and severed head at different locations.

The woman's children were not home at the time of the crime. Following the recovery of the body, police showed the children their mother's sari and remains. They confirmed her identity, which became a crucial turning point in the investigation. Balakrishanan, 62, of Maloth House in Kasaragod reopened a schoolyard scuffle by attacking his Class IV classmate and getting himself landed in a police case. Vellarikundu police have booked two elderly men, both classmates, for allegedly injuring an elderly man over the fight which took place in their primary school days. According to V J Babu, 62, a native of Vellarikundu, he was attacked by Balakrishnan and another classmate Mathew Valiyaplackkal at Malom town on Monday. He alleged that the attack was in retaliation to an old quarrel which had erupted between Babu and Balakrishnan when they were studying in Class IV at Natakkallu Aided UP School in Malom 52 years ago. As per the FIR, the accused, Balakrishnan and Mathew, were Babu's classmates at the school and there were quarrel between Babu and Balakrishnan while they were studying in Class IV. On Monday, Balakrishnan along with Mathew confronted Babu at Malom town around 1pm and while Balakrishnan restrained him by grabbing the collar of his shirt, Mathew allegedly hit him on the face and back of the body with a stone, causing injuries. Babu lost two teeth, and was admitted to the Govt Medical College Hospital at Pariyaram in Kannur. Babu claimed the long-standing grudge held by Balakrishnan led to the attack. Babu said he had beaten up Balakrishnan once when they were studying in Class IV, following which an argument had erupted between them and Balakrishnan held a grudge about it. However, the trio had been behaving like friends in the ensuing years. Vellarikundu SHO T K Mukundan said an FIR has been registered against Balakrishnan and Mathew under sections 126(2), 118(1) and 3(5) of BNS and investigation was on in the case. Meanwhile, efforts are on to settle the case out of court as Babu was willing to settle the case if the accused is ready to pay him Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation.

ED arrests ex-Haryana MLA,aide in money laundering case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) said it has arrested a former MLA and a former Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) officer in an alleged money laundering case here. Ram Niwas and Sunil Kumar Bansal were arrested on June 9, under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in the case of misappropriation of public funds in HSVP (formerly known as the Haryana Urban Development Authority) bank accounts, a statement from the agency said. Ram Niwas was a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2024. He represented the Narwana constituency after he won elections on a Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) ticket. He was also a former official of the HSVP. The ED initiated the investigation on the basis of FIR registered at Panchkula by Haryana Police against unknown persons, said the statement. This case was registered on a complaint by the Drawing and Disbursing Officer of HSVP, in which it was alleged that a 'fraud and financial loss' was committed through a bank account of HSVP, it added. As per the FIR, between 2015-2019, debit transactions amounting approximately Rs. 70 crore were repeatedly released in favour of some particular parties for no apparent reason from the said bank account of HSVP, causing a loss of Rs 70 Crore to HSVP. An internal enquiry by the HSVP revealed that no such bank account was reflected in the cash branch or IT wing of HSVP, meaning that HSVP was 'defrauded' by Sunil Kumar Bansal and Ram Niwas in a clandestine manner,' the ED statement said. Following their arrest, both the accused were presented before the Additional District and Sessions Court at Panchkula. They were remanded to five days' Enforcement Directorate custody..

ED conducts raids in Delhi, Raj, Gujarat in ₹2,700 cr money laundering case involving real estate scheme
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a massive crackdown on Thursday in connection with a Rs 2,700 crore money laundering case involving a real estate scheme. The ED conducted raids at approximately 24 locations across Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat. According to agency sources, the ongoing investigation is linked to a large-scale financial fraud related to a real estate scheme named Red Nexa Evergreen. In Rajasthan, ED teams carried out operations in cities including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu. Simultaneous raids were also conducted in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and parts of Delhi. The crackdown is being executed under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Red Nexa Evergreen project reportedly lured investors with promises of high returns or property allocations — either flats, land, or premium rates after a fixed tenure. Allegations suggest that a significant number of investors were duped in the process. Rajasthan Police had earlier registered an FIR against multiple individuals involved in the fraudulent scheme. The ED's investigation aims to uncover the financial trail and identify key beneficiaries of the scam. More details are expected to emerge as the search operations continue. Around 24 places are being raided in Rajasthan and Gujarat and Delhi. The investors in this project were lured to invest their money till a particular time and told that they can get plots and flats in return for their investments. However investors were duped as none of the promises were allegedly fulfilled. In the end the frustrated investors filed many FIRs in this regard. The raids have been conducted keeping money laundering in mind, said officials. Once the search operation is done, action will be taken against those involved in the fraud. Rajasthan police were acting in the matter till now, however now that the ED has come into the picture, fresh facts are expected to come out soon in the case, said sources.
