Leon Draisaitl Makes Blunt Admission About 'Older' Oilers

Leon Draisaitl Makes Blunt Admission About 'Older' Oilers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl didn't point fingers during the end-of-season media availability, but subtly demanded a slight retool of the team's roster if they want to get over the hump.

Draisaitl made his stance clear on Thursday, saying the Oilers don't need a rebuild, but rather a refresh and to bring in some younger legs.
"Our core is probably in the prime right now in terms of maturity and experiences and all those things," Draisaitl said. "So we're an older team. Do we need to get a little bit younger? A little bit faster? Maybe.
"But I think our core group is at an age where we got a lot of juice left, so hopefully we can continue to kick away at it."
The Oilers' second consecutive loss in the Stanley Cup Final — both to the Florida Panthers — brought back questions about the team's roster and how it's built around Draisaitl and fellow superstar Connor McDavid.

Draisaitl, who led the NHL with 52 goals this season and added 33 points in 22 playoff games, is still producing at an elite level. So is McDavid, who notched 33 points in 22 postseason games.

The veteran forward seemed to caution the front office against simply running it back next season after their consecutive failures on the biggest stage.
"I think that we probably just made it a little bit too easy for them, especially the last couple of games," Draisaitl said. "There's a couple mistakes that we made that we didn't get from them, you know, it was never that easy so, yeah, something to learn for sure."

Panthers parade set for Sunday in Fort Lauderdale. Here's what you need to know

As Fort Lauderdale prepares for the Florida Panthers' second straight Stanley Cup championship parade, city officials and fans are offering key advice for navigating the celebration. With large crowds expected, transportation and parking will be major considerations for anyone heading to the beachside event. Parade route and rally details The parade begins at noon Sunday on A1A at Riomar Street and continues south to Southeast 5th Street, where a rally will be held on a stage. Crews have already started setting up barricades and building the stage along the beach. "The Elbo Room all the way down the beach. It's gonna be amazing," said Rich Rodriguez, who attended last year's celebration. Rodriguez and his friend Alex Guzman described the 2023 event as a once-in-a-lifetime experience—and one that gave them important insight into planning for this year's festivities. "If you're driving here, you're just gonna get stuck somewhere," Rodriguez said. Parking, transportation and arrival tips The City of Fort Lauderdale says 26 nearby parking garages will be open for the event, but walking distances to the venue could range from five minutes to over an hour. "Parking is gonna be difficult. So make sure you use ride share or carpool. Water taxi will be available," said Mayor Dean Trantalis. Rodriguez and Guzman opted for the water taxi last year and say it's the way to go. "It's well worth it. You don't have to drive. If you're drinking you don't have to worry about anything like that. The traffic. You can see there are two lanes on the road and it's gonna be really really crowded," Rodriguez said. Rodriguez added that he arrived at the water taxi about three and a half hours before the start of the parade last year. "Last time we got here at about 8:30 and there were already hundreds of thousands of people here. And it was stormy," he said. Police presence and safety measures Fort Lauderdale police say there are no known threats to the event. Officials added that it will be "all hands on deck," meaning nearly every officer not on vacation will be working during Sunday's parade.

Stephen A Smith Offers Bold Pacers-Thunder Finals Game 7 Forecast

Stephen A Smith Offers Bold Pacers-Thunder Finals Game 7 Forecast originally appeared on Athlon Sports. ESPN/ABC pundit Stephen A. Smith, one of the great modern hot take artists, has made controversial headlines throughout these ongoing 2025 NBA Finals. Advertisement Smith has been called out for playing "Solitaire" on his phone during active play, and he and fellow basketball analyst Kendrick Perkins were at one point derided by two courtside fans wearing cutouts of their faces atop the ugly prom tuxedos from "Dumb And Dumber." But the action on the hardwood has been great, with or without those distractions. Although the Finals' ratings are down, these have been some of the most surprisingly thrilling games in one of the most competitive series in years. Advertisement The Finals now shifts back to Oklahoma City, and will be determined in a Game 7 on Sunday. On "First Take" Friday morning, Smith offered up a bold prediction for the final matchup in what is shaping up to be an all-time classic series between young squads on the rise. "I think Game 7 is going to be a thriller. I don't think it's going to be a blowout. I think it's going to be tight," Smith said. "There are times when they [Oklahoma City] just lag offensively, they can't seem to get anything going, but they know how to neutralize you defensively," Smith said. "I think it's going to be close in the fourth quarter. I'm not saying that OKC's not going to pull away because I still believe in them." Advertisement Related: Stephen A. Patriots' Rookie WR Kyle Williams Gives Four-Word Statement on His Mindset

Patriots' Rookie WR Kyle Williams Gives Four-Word Statement on His Mindset originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots drafted Kyle Williams with their third-round pick, 69th overall, with hopes the young rookie could provide some juice to a receiver room that needed it badly. Advertisement His 4.40s 40-yard dash time, combined with high-level quickness and burst provides a level of playmaking on the short to intermediate routes that has been missing in New England. The Washington State product is looking to make a difference in year one. According to WEEI 93.7 FM's Meghan Ottolini, Williams explained the mental approach he has to doing just that. "My mindset is 'don't drop the money.' Every time the ball is there, it's a bag of money," Williams said. "We can't let that hit the floor, because [then] that's somebody else's." New England Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams (18) walks to the practice fields at Gillette Canha-Imagn Images Williams added that showing his ability to make plays while competing against 'top -tier' guys in the NFL is also a big part of his approach. Who better to do that against than All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez? Advertisement "I think it's an iron sharpens iron thing. Going against Gonzo is going to help me better my game,' Williams said. At 5'11" and 190lbs, Williams is not going to wow anyone with his size. Where he makes a difference is with his speed and route running. If his hands follow suit and he stays away from drops, like he says his mindset is, we could see Williams get on the field early and often with Stefon Diggs. The Patriots have revamped their wide receiver room over the last few seasons, which should bring a ton of competition into the fold come training camp.
