Bengaluru: CID on Monday arrested
BK Nagarajappa
, a former general manager of the
Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation
, in connection with an alleged
fund transfer scam
in the financial institution. He was produced before a local court, which remanded him in police custody for 10 days.The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Nagarajappa in April and interrogated him during a 14-day police custody.The alleged scam, initially discovered in Nov 2023, is being probed by CID.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that approximately Rs 97 crore were misappropriated by transferring funds to over 500 bank accounts created under fictitious beneficiary names.CID has already made several arrests in connection with the case, including the corporation's former managing director R Leelavati and her sister R Managala, who is employed at the Indian Institute of Science.

IAS officer ‘caught taking Rs 10 lakh bribe' from businessman: Odisha Vigilance
The Odisha Vigilance Directorate said its officials on Sunday evening caught an IAS officer allegedly in the act of accepting a Rs 10-lakh bribe from a businessman in Kalahandi district. Dhiman Chakma, a 2021-batch officer currently posted as a sub-collector at Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district, has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to Vigilance officials, Chakma allegedly accepted Rs 10 lakh as an instalment of a total demand of Rs 20 lakh from the businessman, who claimed he was threatened with action if he did not pay. The businessman subsequently lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Directorate. 'The accused IAS officer called the complainant to his official government residence at Dharamgarh, received the bribe amount, verified the note bundles of different denominations with both his hands and kept the same inside his residence office table drawer. Both hand wash and table drawer wash gave positive chemical reaction,' said a Vigilance official. During subsequent searches at his official residence, a further Rs 47 lakh in cash has also been recovered, Vigilance said. Further searches are in progress and will continue till Monday morning, said officials. Chakma is a native of Kanchanpur in Tripura. After clearing UPSC, the computer science graduate from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala, was posted as an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer in Odisha's Mayurbhanj before he made it to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Chakma could not be reached for comment amid continued searches at his premises by Vigilance officials.

"But my son will not return": Bengaluru stampede victim's family receives ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh
Tumkur (Karnataka) [India], June 9 (ANI): Devraj, father of deceased Manoj Kumar, who died in the Bengaluru stampede incident among 10 others, received ex-gratia worth Rs 25 lakh by the Karnataka government and said that he would use the relief funds for the benefit of his daughter, who still depends on him. He expressed deep sorrow over the demise of his child and said that the financial assistance given to his family wouldn't bring his son back to life. 'I have been given a cheque of Rs 25 lakhs, but my son will not return. I will not use this money for my benefit... I will put it in the account of my daughter and her mother and keep the money for her future,' Devraj told ANI. Earlier, Tumkur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Subha Kalyan said that the father of the deceased Manoj Kumar was given ex-gratia worth Rs 25 lakh from the Chief Minister's relief fund. '11 people lost their lives, one of them was Manoj Kumar from Tumkur district. Today, we received an order from the CM's office to immediately disburse a relief amount of Rs 25 lakh to his father, Devraj. We have handed him the cheque from the CM relief fund,' Kalyan told ANI. The DM stated that the deceased was a top student with over 85 per cent marks in Karnataka SSLC and was slated to go abroad to secure a job. 'He (the father) shared that he had a lot of dreams for his son, who was a topper and had scored more than 85 per cent in SSLC. He (the son) was slated to go to a foreign country for job opportunities. It is unfortunate that dreams, which a father carries, will not see the light of day,' she added. Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede in Bengaluru to Rs 25 lakh each. Earlier, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has said that the details regarding the Bengaluru stampede incident will emerge after the probe concludes. The stampede that occurred during celebrations outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations claimed 11 lives. 'Everything will be known after investigation, including who said what, what statements were given earlier, when, and by whom,' Parameshwara told reporters here. Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that a commission has been formed that is currently conducting an inquiry into the Bengaluru stampede incident, where 11 people had lost their lives on June 4 during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. He refrained from commenting on the matter, noting that the state's Home Minister would provide a detailed response.'The commission is conducting an inquiry. I will not say much. The Home Minister will reply,' Shivakumar said. Moreover, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said the government is seriously considering moving the city's cricket stadium to a new location to prevent such incidents in the future. Speaking to the media, Siddaramaiah expressed deep personal pain over the tragedy, confirmed that the government is contemplating long-term solutions, and said that the government can shift the stadium to a different place. 'The government will look into shifting the cricket stadium to another location,' he said.'Such an unpleasant incident should not happen under any government. Personally, this incident has hurt me and the government,' he added. 'Five police officers have been suspended in this case. The intelligence chief and the chief minister's political secretary have been replaced,' Siddaramaiah confirmed. (ANI)

Caught on camera: Restaurant vandalised over delay in food service in Ghaziabad
Panic broke out late Saturday night at a restaurant in Ghaziabad when a group of armed men stormed in and vandalised the premises, causing chaos amongst diners, including women and children. The incident occurred in the Rajnagar Extension area at a restaurant called Apni Rasoi around 11:30 to the FIR filed by the restaurant owner, Akshit Tyagi, the ruckus began over a delay in food service. Initially, there was a heated exchange of abuses. A few hours later, around 6–7 individuals arrived on motorcycles and a WagonR taxi and attacked the restaurant wielding sticks, rods and the violent attack, the men allegedly damaged two laptops, an LED screen, and a billing machine. They also reportedly took Rs 1,760 from the billing counter. At the time of the incident, several families, including women and children, were dining at the restaurant. Frightened by the sudden violence, they fled the scene to save their lives. WATCH: The entire episode was captured on the restaurant's CCTV cameras, which police are now examining to identify the culprits. Tyagi also alleged in his complaint that some of the accused had previously visited the restaurant on June 6, drunk and involved in a brawl, but the matter was settled that of three accused have come to light - Mintu Tyagi, Rajdeep, and Ravi Sharma. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under IPC sections 352 (assault or use of criminal force), 115(2), 324(4), 351(3), and 309(6).Police are now scrutinising the CCTV footage to identify and arrest the accused.
