Trump partners with Qatari firm on $3B golf resort project
US President Donald Trump is preparing to embark on his first working trip abroad in his second term, with scheduled visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between May 13 and 16.
In Qatar, a major development was unveiled on Wednesday involving the Trump Organization and Qatari Diar, a state-run real estate firm. The two will partner to build the Trump International Golf Club and a series of luxury villas in Simaisma, a coastal town north of Doha. The venture marks the Trump Organization's latest expansion into the Gulf.
Describing the development, Qatari Diar CEO Ali Mohamed al-Ali told Doha News that the 'unique' project, located in an area branded the 'Land of Legends,' is expected to attract roughly USD 3 billion in investment. Al-Ali praised the Trump Organization as one of the 'best operators' in global real estate.
Though the Trump Organization has long pledged to avoid deals with foreign governments while Trump holds office, this particular arrangement involves a private intermediary. According to The New York Times, Saudi-based Dar Global was responsible for acquiring the land for the project, a detail confirmed by Eric Trump, who leads the Trump Organization.
During Trump's presidency, foreign companies—especially in the Gulf—have typically overseen the construction of international Trump-branded properties. In such deals, the Trump Organization licenses its name and reputation while other developers manage the building and investment.
Ties with Saudi firms have particularly strengthened since Trump's initial visit to the kingdom in 2017. Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and a former senior adviser, secured USD 2 billion in Saudi funding for his private equity firm shortly after leaving the White House.

Trump to keep Starlink at White House
Ammon News - President Donald Trump said on Monday he has no plans to discontinue Starlink at the White House but might move his Tesla off-site, following his announcement over the weekend that his relationship with Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of both companies, was over. "I may move the Tesla around a little bit, but I don't think we'll be doing that with Starlink. It's a good service," Trump told reporters, referring to the satellite internet company that provides high-speed broadband access. It is a unit of Musk's SpaceX. In March, Trump said he had purchased a red Tesla Model S from Musk, Trump's then-close ally. Last week, a White House official said Trump might get rid of it after a public feud erupted between the two men. The Tesla was seen parked at the White House over the weekend. On Saturday, Trump said he had no intention of repairing ties with Musk. On Monday, the president said he would not have a problem if Musk called. "We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well," Trump said. Musk responded with a heart emoji to a video on X showing Trump's remarks. Last week, Trump and Musk exchanged a flurry of insults after the world's richest man denounced Trump's tax and spending bill as a "disgusting abomination." Musk's opposition has complicated Republican efforts to pass Trump's "big, beautiful bill" in Congress, where the party holds slim majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate. Since the dispute began last Thursday, Musk has deleted some social media posts critical of Trump, including one signaling support for impeaching the president. Sources close to Musk said his anger has started to subside, and they believe he may want to repair his relationship with Trump. Reuters

UAE Steady Amid Market Swings
As we've come to expect from markets in 2025, another 24 hours of news headlines roiled markets. According to Josh Gilbert, Market Analyst at eToro, initially, there was optimism following Trump's 'very good' call with China's Xi Jinping, which revived hopes of trade negotiations progressing. However, the market quickly changed its focus to the Trump/Musk spat that unfolded via social media, sending Tesla shares tumbling 13% overnight. This will provide a hit to overall market sentiment, particularly tech, but may not be something long-lasting other than for Tesla. They've already had a pretty terrible start to the year, surrendering their EV crown to BYD and losing market share globally, so this political punch is only going to put downside pressure on Tesla shares. The EV slowdown hit hard, but being in the political firing line adds a new layer of risk for Tesla the noise, global equities remain elevated after a strong run since April. But that momentum faces a test. Tariff tensions and political risk continue to cloud the outlook, and for the rally to continue, investors will need clarity on trade and policy, both of which remain elusive for the UAE, local markets have held firm near multi-year highs, supported by strong earnings and President Trump's recent visit, helping to bolster regional confidence. This alongside a pipeline of exciting IPOs and solid macro backdrop is drawing sustained foreign investment. The performance from DFM and ADX this year, outperforming the S&P500 only solidifies the UAE's position as a growing global financial hub that investors shouldn't ignore. With so much uncertainty in markets, we continue to see a compelling case for keeping long-term exposure to gold. Over the long term, we believe gold remains a strategic asset: a core holding amid accelerating de-globalization, and a transition asset during a period marked by policy uncertainty. It offers stability against risk events while providing a reliable longer-term store of value and, importantly, as a portfolio diversifier. Even in the age of digital assets and AI, a bit of that classic yellow metal can provide balance and reassurance.
