Eagles fan, 18, dies after fall from light pole during celebration
A Philadelphia Eagles fan who took to the streets of the city to celebrate the team's NFC Championship win and Super Bowl LIX clinch died after falling from a light pole.
Tyle Sabapathy, an 18-year-old Temple University student, died after falling from the pole and landing on his head, Philadelphia police told FOX 29 Philadelphia. The teen was taken to the hospital and was in very critical condition before he eventually died.
Temple University released a statement about the incident.
"The loss of a promising 18-year-old man like Tyler is both tragic and traumatic," the school said. "There are no words that can make sense of it, and the entire Temple community mourns his passing. Our hearts go out to Tyler's family, friends, classmates and all who knew and loved him.
"A native of Toronto, Canada, Tyler was already a thriving student within Temple University's College of Public Health, where he was majoring in exercise and sport science. As an accomplished gymnast with more than 120 medals in provincial, regional and international competitions, Tyler was fascinated with injury prevention, and this ultimately led him to pursue the major that he did. He no doubt had a bright future ahead of him, and it is so tragic that we will not be able to see how he would have made his mark on the world.
"As a member of the university's club gymnastics team, Tyler displayed exceptional self-discipline and work ethic, spending countless hours a week training and honing his craft. He was loved by his teammates, friends and coaches here in Philadelphia."
The hours of jubilation for the Eagles' win was marred by several incidents.
At least three people were injured when a driver struck a crowd of pedestrians who had left Lincoln Financial Field to celebrate the win. The driver was in custody and the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Several other incidents of fans climbing poles, shooting fireworks or conducting celebratory gunfire were also caught on camera.

That was most recently evidenced by a recent invitation he offered on social media. A.J. Brown is looking for a quarterback in the Philly and New Jersey area to work out with him this summer. Don't restart your cellular devices or your tablets. There's no need to check the resolution or the speed of your laptop. Your internet isn't lagging. This isn't a drill. A.J. Brown is looking for a quarterback from Philadelphia or New Jersey to work out with him during the summer. He offered an open invitation through his Instagram account. Fingers are crossed that the local news outlets and radio stations don't twist this and try to present it as some issue he has with his teammates. Let's hope the more appropriate angle is focused on instead. This is a recent Super Bowl winner who has already expressed that his desire to compete outweighs his achievements. That's why this city and fan base love A.J. and why it may not be inappropriate to believe that his bust may be carved one day and placed in the hallowed ground better known as the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Ohio.

Cooper DeJean spent time focusing on the nuances of CB positions with Patrick Surtain Eagles' dynamic defensive back Cooper DeJean has been focusing on the nuances of the cornerback position with NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain this offseason. The Eagles drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first two rounds of last April's NFL draft, and the results were championship worthy. Philadelphia was 2-2 entering the Week 5 bye, but lost one regular-season game after DeJean was inserted into the lineup in place of Avonte Maddox. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59, and finished the year with both Mitchell and DeJean being finalists for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award. With James Bradberry and Darius Slay departing, DeJean will have an even more critical role in Vic Fangio's defense this season, and he's already returned to training. DeJean has spent the off-season working out with NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain. Recently, Lucas Evans of the Denver Post wrote a long-form article on Surtain and his dominance at the position. One of the tidbits featured Surtain coaching DeJean on one of the nuances of cornerback positions and the importance of hand placement. Surtain was named the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and became the first cornerback to win the award since Stephon Gilmore in 2019, while the former was just the second Bronco all-time to win the prize after linebacker Randy Gradishar did so in 1978. Surtain appeared in 16 regular-season games in 2024, recording 45 total tackles (34 solo) and 11 passes defended, including four interceptions, one of which he returned for a 100-yard pick-six in Week 5 versus the Raiders. The cornerback also added a forced fumble and a recovery during the season. DeJean logged 51 tackles (38 solo) as a rookie, including 0.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries across 16 regular-season games in 2024. DeJean's biggest and best moment came in Super Bowl LIX against the Chiefs, when he picked off Patrick Mahomes for a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown on his birthday.
