Just a few days removed from a Western Conference Finals exit in Oklahoma City, the Minnesota Timberwolves are bracing for an offseason of tough decisions.

None bigger than deciding whether to re-sign unrestricted free agent Nickeil Alexander-Walker, cousin of NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
As of Saturday, Bovada lists the Golden State Warriors as among the favorites to sign Alexander-Walker with odds of +425, behind only the Los Angeles Lakers (+235) and Brooklyn Nets (+290).
While the Wolves would ideally like to keep their core intact, including Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle, it appears that Alexander-Walker's next destination could be San Francisco, especially given Minnesota's tight salary‐cap situation.
With the Warriors suffering a "gentleman's sweep" at the hands of the Timberwolves in the second round of the NBA playoffs, a series in which Stephen Curry played just 13 minutes, adding a player like Alexander-Walker could be a savvy move to keep them in contention.

A 2019 first‐round pick (17th overall) out of Virginia Tech, Alexander-Walker began his NBA career with the New Orleans Pelicans before stops with Utah and finally Minnesota, where he emerged as a key two‐way reserve.

He has appeared in all 82 games each of the past two seasons in Minneapolis, averaging 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 25.3 minutes per game in 2024-25, shooting 43.8% from the field and 38.1% from deep.
In the recent playoffs, Alexander-Walker flashed his potential, most notably with a 23‐point, 6‐assist outing in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Thunder.
Securing Alexander-Walker would not only bolster wing depth for the Warriors but also bring a proven scorer off-the-bench, echoing the role he excelled in for Minnesota.
Yet, salary‐cap constraints complicate matters.

Alexander-Walker is expected to command a near-full mid‐level exception (approximately $14.2 million per season), but the Warriors lack open mid‐level funds, meaning they'll likely have to clear significant salary to sign him.

NBA Executive Makes Bold Claim Regarding Bronny James' Role With The Lakers Next Season

NBA Executive Makes Bold Claim Regarding Bronny James' Role With The Lakers Next Season originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Bronny James' NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers didn't get off to the greatest of starts, but he did show some promise in the latter stages of his rookie season. James had some solid showings and impressed in the G League, and a Western Conference Executive believes the Lakers want him to be part of the rotation next season. Advertisement "I don't think there's any doubt that's their plan," one Western Conference executive said. "I know the guy gets a lot of grief because of who his dad is, but we've seen a lot of tape on (Bronny) and the fact is, he was a lot better player in April than he was in October, and definitely in July." There is no denying that James improved a fair bit. The early signs were so bad that the Lakers were hammered for selecting the former USC guard with the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft. James averaged 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game for the Lakers in the Summer League. He was very inefficient, too, as he shot 35.0% from the field and 15.8% from beyond the arc. Things didn't get much better in the preseason either. James averaged 4.2 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 29.7% from the field and 8.3% from three. Advertisement That provided James' doubters with ammunition to claim he did not belong in the NBA and that he had only made it in because he is LeBron James' son. There was an avalanche of criticism coming his way, but he did eventually start playing better. James would end up averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game for the South Bay Lakers in the G League. He was a bit more efficient, too, shooting 44.0% from the field and 38.0% from beyond the arc. While some might dismiss G League performances, we are talking about someone who looked out of place in the Summer League at one point. James had taken some big strides, and the executive is backing him to be a regular for the Lakers in 2025-26. "He's 20 years old," the executive stated. "He had a whole year where his development was thrown all out of whack. But he can defend the perimeter, and he showed he can shoot the 3. Advertisement "If he can show that wasn't a fluke, he is going to start getting 10, 15 minutes a night because the team is going to feel like they can trust him," the executive added. "I think he is going to do all that. He is going to be a regular for them next year." This executive isn't the only one with this belief. Lakers insider Dave McMenamin thinks James could be a rotation player by midseason. That might be a bit too soon for the 20-year-old, though. James has shown some promise on the defensive end, and the outside shot is falling with greater regularity, but he didn't even come close to cracking the Lakers' rotation as a rookie. It was only when the team had an injury crisis that he got meaningful minutes on the court. If the Lakers were in rebuild mode in 2025-26, then maybe James, who averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.3 steals per game as a rookie, could have been part of the rotation. They aspire to be serious title contenders, though, and you've got to be a pretty good NBA player to play significant minutes for a team like that. Minnesota Timberwolves Want An Alpha, Kevin Durant Is The Top Target

Minnesota Timberwolves Want An Alpha, Kevin Durant Is The Top Target originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Following a bitter defeat in the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves are on the market for some serious upgrades, and they already have a few names in mind. One of their primary targets is NBA veteran Kevin Durant, who is rumored to be splitting from the Suns this summer. Advertisement 'The Timberwolves need another 'alpha' next to Edwards to win it all, which is why sources told Hoops Wire that Minnesota is expected to pursue a Durant trade again this offseason," wrote Hoops Wire. "A future Hall of Famer, Durant doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, but he's interested in playing for the Timberwolves, sources said." The Timberwolves are fresh off an appearance in the Western Conference Finals, where they earned a spot for the second straight year after series wins over the Lakers and Warriors. After trading their longtime center, Karl-Anthony Towns, back in October, Minnesota hoped to build on its early success by pairing Edwards with Julius Randle. Randle, along with Rudy Gobert, formed a tough and versatile frontcourt for the Timberwolves, and Edwards was the leader on the other end with averages of 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game on 44.7% shooting. They won 49 games in the regular season to secure the sixth seed and a spot in the playoffs. While they did manage to make the West Finals, the Timberwolves were hopelessly lost in the series as they struggled to keep up with the Thunder. They lost in five games, and now the team is searching for a solution. Advertisement With limited options for improvement, the best way to improve their standing in the West next season is by trading for Kevin Durant and finally pairing Edwards with his childhood idol. With the Suns on the brink of collapse, it has made Durant a primary target this summer, and the Wolves are expected to be among his most aggressive suitors. Besides Edwards' notoriously close relationship with the 2x champion, Durant is exactly the type of player who could complete the Timberwolves. He's a proven scorer and shooter with an average of 26.6 points per game this season. His offensive skill set would provide a much-needed boost for Minnesota, as well as give them another closer to lead them down the stretch. While the price for Durant would be high, the Timberwolves could get it done with a package centered around Rudy Gobert. Despite being the heart of their defense, the Timberwolves already have a very worthy big man to step into his role: Naz Reid. With Gobert's $43 million contract, along with low-level salary players like Rob Dillingham or Leonard Miller. Of course, being a second-apron team, the Timberwolves are somewhat limited in their trade options, but there is no expense they will not pay to build a title contender around Edwards. After leading them to back-to-back trips to the West Finals, Ant is the key to their future success, and the Timberwolves must find a way to get him the help he needs on the court. While he may not be in his prime, Kevin Durant is a viable choice to chase a championship, and the word on the street is that he's feeling a mutual level of interest in joining them this summer. The 2025-26 season is currently the last one on his contract, worth $54.7 million. Los Angeles Lakers Are The Favorites To Land A Key Two-Way Shooting Guard

Los Angeles Lakers Are The Favorites To Land A Key Two-Way Shooting Guard originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a critical off-season, and any wrong move can have major implications for their next title pursuit. While their cap flexibility is somewhat limited, the Lakers are in the running to land a talented two-way swingman that could further bolster their backcourt. Advertisement According to Bovada Sportsbook, the Lakers are the better favorites for shooting guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker if he leaves the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer. At +235, they hold a steady lead over other top contenders, such as the Brooklyn Nets (+290), Golden State Warriors (+425), Miami Heat (+525), and the Toronto Raptors (+900). After trading for Luka Doncic in February and rescinding the trade for Mark Williams, the Lakers don't have much cap space to work with, but they still have a non-taxpayer mid-level exception ($14.1 million), which they can use to sign free agents. Alexander-Walker made just $4.3 million in the final year of his contract, so he's someone who fits their price range if they can negotiate a new deal worth roughly $10-$12 million. While he's no star, having another defensive-minded body on the perimeter will surely help to neutralize the defensive shortcomings of Luka Doncic. In 82 games for the Timberwolves, Nickeil averaged 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game on 43.8% shooting. In the playoffs, he serves as their leading man off the bench, with averages of 8.9 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 rebounds. In Game 4, he even led the team in scoring with 23 points off the bench in just over 29 minutes. Advertisement Nobody knows for certain if Alexander-Walker plans to leave the Timberwolves, but the franchise is expected to make some changes this summer. If they can't pull off their dreams of pairing Edwards with Kevin Durant, they are sure to make some tweaks to the supporting cast, and it's uncertain how Nickeil fits in. With the Lakers, he could thrive in JJ Redick's system and enhance his game alongside LeBron James and Luka Doncic. As a proper 3-and-D player in the backcourt, he could help the Lakers close games and maintain a championship-level defense. He could also allow the Lakers to play small, using him, Luka, and Reaves along with Rui Hachimura and LeBron James. While he's just one of many potential solutions this summer, this could be a way the Lakers could improve without breaking up their core. Despite some doubts about the LeBron, Luka, and Reaves trio, Rob Pelinka still believes in the group, and that means we should expect some smaller moves to adjust the supporting cast instead. The question is, how far will the Timberwolves go to try and re-sign their guy? Advertisement If he's available, the Lakers will make a respectable offer, but it may not be enough to outbid the Timberwolves or other teams who are sure to pursue his services. In the end, only time will tell how it all plays out, but the Lakers are going to consider all options this summer as they work to improve the roster by any means necessary. With LeBron James in his final years, the time to win is now, and the Lakers will not just stand by and waste an opportunity to get better. For the right price, Nickeil Alexander-Walker is a reasonable acquisition for them, and he's someone who could help in one of their greatest areas of need.
