Richard Wilkins cowers and covers his face as he conquers his greatest fear during Today show broadcast in Dubai
A very brave Richard Wilkins stepped up and conquered his greatest fear this week.
The veteran Nine entertainment guru, 70, was on the scene in Dubai on Thursday, where the Today show is broadcasting this week.
After discovering Richard's apparent fear of heights, Today host Karl Stefanovic said there was only one thing for it - to send Richard 300 meters into the air.
A segment, titled 'Where in Dubai is Dickie, featured Richard reporting from the Dubai Balloon - a tethered balloon located at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai.
The eye-catching tourist attraction which rises vertically to 300 metres, offers panoramic views of the stunning Dubai skyline.

'Dickie was a little bit upset with Sarah [Abo, Today co-host] for questioning his ability or inability to go to any height, so we thought we'd send him into a hot air balloon today,' Karl said.
The segment then cut to Richard, standing nervously on the viewing platform in the balloon.
Clearly out of his comfort zone, Richard clung tightly to a railing as he sheepishly began speaking.
'Good evening, it might almost be time to say "Dubai"' Richard said.
'As you know, I'm not great with heights, so this really is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for me.
'But yes, this is the Dubai Balloon, which is moored to the ground, I'm happy to report!'
Ever the consummate professional, Richard soldiered on in spite of his pulse-raising fear, as the camera panned around to show a remarkable Dubai skyline.
'It goes up 300 metres in the air which is the height of a 100 storey building, no less,' he added.
'Even for someone like me, Karl and Sarah, who is not a fan of getting up in the air like this, it really is something pretty special.'
The camera then cut back to Richard who could be seen cowering on his knees as he continued to deliver his report.
'You can see how brave I'm being, up there getting a view of all the sights and sounds of Dubai,' he said, covering his eyes in fear.
Richard's display tickled Karl, who could not help but giggle at his colleague's predicament.
Co-host Sarah, meanwhile, praised Richard for his bravery.
'I'm so proud of you, Dickie. you're doing so well,' she said as Karl continued to guffaw.
'You're a funny man,' Karl said to Richard between chuckles.
Fans were also quick to praise Richard on social media for facing his fears.
'Nice one, Dickie,' one fan commented.
'I can't stand on a step ladder even.'
Another suggested that it was cruel to put the Nine star in such a precarious position.
'I'd be just the same Dickie. They shouldn't be taking the mickey out of you,' they wrote.
Richard's brave display comes after he shared a very surprising photo with notorious fan of heights Tom Cruise.
The Channel Nine entertainment reporter, 70, shared an image of himself posing alongside the Hollywood superstar in London as they discussed his latest film Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
What caught the eye of many is the size disparity between the two men, with Wilkins appearing to tower over the 62-year-old Cruise.
The perspective of the photo, with Wilkins more in the foreground, does exaggerate the height difference between the two, although the Today star is quite a bit taller.
Richard cuts an imposing figure at 1.88m (or 6'1") while Tom stands at a reported 1.7m (5'6").
'Tom looks like he's come out of a Kinder Surprise egg,' one follower joked.
Alluding to the strange perspective of the image, another offered: 'That photo doesn't look right - I know Tom Cruise is short but the photo looks distorted somehow?'

Female solo traveler names her safest country in the world after 10 years of globe-trotting
A female solo traveler has compiled a list of the safest destinations in the world - and her top pick may come as a surprise. Zara Aitken, from Somerset, in England, has spent the past ten years traveling the world on her own. She leads a digital nomad lifestyle by making a part-time income from her travel blog Passport for Living as well as working as a Project Coordinator for a UK-based charity. As a longtime advocate for solo female travel, Zara compiled a list of the places she has felt the safest on her own. 'Does this mean that each of these countries is 100 per cent safe?' she wrote in a recent blog post. 'Of course not. 'Naturally, you have to take safety precautions everywhere you travel, but these countries provided me with an enriching experience that I can't wait to share with you.' One of Zara's top picks? Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Despite substantial discrimination against women in the UAE, according to Human Rights Watch, Zara found Abu Dhabi to be 'one of the best travel destinations for solo female travelers'. 'I spent a few days by myself in Abu Dhabi recently on my way back from South Africa and felt very comfortable walking around and travelling by myself,' Zara wrote on her blog Passport for Living. 'People were very friendly and respectful and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.' As well as visiting the Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi, Zara recommends the 'beautiful beaches' including Corniche Beach with its five miles of white sand and turquoise water. Posting a picture of her wearing a green headscarf outside of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Zara reminds her readers that they should dress according to the 'cultural and societal norms in the UAE'. Also on Zara's list of the destinations perfect for solo female travelers is Maun, in Botswana. Known as the gateway to the UNESCO-listed Okavango Delta, Maun is a small town in the north of the landlocked country. Although Zara admits that there is not much to do in the town itself, she said that the Delta is worth a visit as it is one of the last places with untouched wilderness on the planet. 'This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with wildlife everywhere, stunning sunsets and even more amazing people,' she said. 'I cannot wait to go back to Botswana to explore more of the Delta.' Compared to other African countries, crime rates in Botswana are very low, according to Lonely Planet. The only issue Zara encountered was men catcalling her on the streets when she was walking alone - but she emphasized this would not prevent her from returning to the southern African country in the future. The first place Zara travelled to on her own was Paris, France, which also features on her list. Despite being very nervous on the trip, she fell head over heels for the City of Love and has visited on her own three more times since. As well as wandering through the whimsical streets and exploring renowned locations such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triumph, Zara most enjoys sipping a coffee in a Parisian café. With one of the lowest crime rates on the planet, Zara also recommends that solo female travelers add Reykjavik, in Iceland to their bucket list - as well as the idyllic Greek island of Corfu. After exploring Australia in a campervan for a month, the Land Down Under also earned a mention in Zara's blog post. With English as its national language, Zara found it easy to make friends with fellow backpackers in Australia so she did not have to traverse the outback alone. The only thing you need to be weary of in Australia, according to Zara, is the wildlife. 'From snakes and spiders to crocs and jellyfish, it seems everything in Australia wants to kill you,' she wrote. 'So it's wise to avoid hiking alone and join a group tour if you do want to embark on a hike, just to be safe.'

Awkward moment Richard Wilkins is mistaken for Hollywood star while reporting in London - and you won't believe his response
Richard Wilkins was left frustrated this week after fans interrupted a live field report he was conducting and mistook him for his famous Hollywood lookalike. The veteran Today show reporter, 70, was covering the Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning premiere in London, when some locals enthusiastically greeted him - but confused with a Baywatch star. 'Hey, it's David Hasselhoff!' the fans yelped. An annoyed Wilkins did not mince words when reprimanding them for interrupting his report. 'Hey, will you give us a break for five minutes, please?' Wilkins asked. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Richard Wilkins AM (@richardwilkins) The fans later shared the clip to social media and captioned it with: 'Best feeling in the world meeting your idol.' The clip caught the attention of Wilkins himself, who responded with a cheeky comment. 'Don't hassle the Hoff,' Wilkins commented. 'Midnight live crosses can be challenging!' Wilkins and David Hasselhoff, 72, share a striking resemblance, with both sporting tall frames, broad shoulders, and trademark coiffed brunette hair. They both share a charismatic on-screen presence and showbiz longevity into their 70s. It comes after Wilkins shared a very surprising photo with notorious fan of heights Tom Cruise. Safiyya Vorajee soaks up the sun in Dubai as she shares touching tribute to her late daughter Azaylia
Safiyya Vorajee paid tribute to her late daughter Azalyia while on holiday in Dubai. An Instagram post shared by the influencer, 34, on Friday revealed she had enjoyed a getaway to the lavish Burj Al Arab hotel. Posing in a coastal swimming pool with a picturesque sunset behind her, the beauty reclined in an animal print swimsuit. As Safiyya gazed up at the sky in a final snap, she told her followers that's how she remembers her daughter Azaylia, who died in 2021 at just eight months old. The touching caption read: 'You'll always find me looking up at the sky because that's where my favourite person in the world lives.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Azaylia, who Safiyya shares with former footballer Ashley Cain, 34, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at just eight weeks old which left her with tumours on her lungs, stomach and kidneys. She underwent several rounds of chemotherapy but unfortunately lost her life on 24 April 2021 after a courageous battle. Safiyya and Ashley, who have since split, launched The Azaylia Foundation following the loss of their daughter - a charity aimed at helping families going through similar struggles. The foundation has since raised more than £1.5million, with its founders winning a number of awards for their work with the charity. Just a matter of days ago Safiyya revealed she is at last ready to 'live her life' again after the unimaginable heartache she suffered four years ago. Accompanying a photo of her relaxing on a plane the 34-year-old penned: 'I love being up here with you. 'At the start of this year, I promised myself to try and live again, not just survive, but to truly find happiness even when I didn't know where to begin. I started small, with a routine, and every time I fell, I chose to rise again. You don't recover overnight. It's taken me years to even reach this point. 'I've worked deeply on myself, my healing, my purpose, my work, my body, and my mind. Five months into the year and I'm proud of how little I've fallen since making that promise to myself. Grief will forever live within me, but so does growth, strength, and self-love. 'Let me show you there is something in life called a rebirth. It's when pain doesn't break you forever, it transforms you. It's when you honour your past but choose to embrace life again (with my angel beside me)' 'Before flying to Dubai, I visited Azaylia's garden. I said my prayers with a heavy heart, always feeling the ache of not having her here or being able to share holidays together . But in the sky, I felt her with me. That connection is all I have, and it's enough to keep me going.' On a similar note, Safiyya told MailOnline in an exclusive interview in late-2024 that she finally feels ready to have another child after the death of her first daughter. It came after Ashley became a father for the third time last year, having welcomed a son called Aliyas with a mystery woman and another named Atlas last year. It is not known if Atlas's mother is the same woman. Accompanying a photo of her travelling to Dubai, just a matter of days ago Safiyya revealed she is at last ready to 'live her life' again after the unimaginable heartache she suffered four years ago Safiyya said: 'I think what you do with grief is learn how to carry it, and for me, always turning pain into purpose allows me to feel stronger. 'Every day is hard when you wake up in the morning, and it's just creating measures and putting different boundaries in place. 'As long as I'm continuing Azaylia's legacy, they're the things that actually carry me through.' She added: 'For me it (the idea of having more children) always goes round in circles in my mind, because it's a really scary thing for me, but I always believe that if I'm with the right person, I don't shut it down now,' she said. 'I'm open to that as well. I'm open to rebuilding our family and a home, and if I don't find the right man then I won't be, but I am open to that in the future.' And the star is taking things seriously, even exploring the option of freezing her eggs although she explained that a doctor told her it wasn't necessary. She told MailOnline: 'I actually went to one of the people who freezes your eggs, and basically, he told me that it's not necessary for me to freeze my eggs right now. 'I don't know the ins and outs, and I need to get more information, but he told me that if he took the eggs out, and I then tried to get pregnant with my next partner, then it could be the fact that there's not enough fertile eggs in there where you could get pregnant at this age.
