Airport Show 2025 opens tomorrow in Dubai

Zawya05-05-2025

The 24th edition of Airport Show is set to open tomorrow at the Dubai World Trade Centre, bringing together aviation leaders, airport operators, technology providers and government officials.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, the event runs until 8th May and is the largest B2B airport industry platform in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA).
More than 140 exhibitors from over 20 countries will connect with 50-plus qualified buyers representing 70 organisations from 30 countries. Over 6,000 visitors are expected to explore innovations in passenger experience, air traffic management, carbon reduction, digitalisation and urban air mobility.
Sheikh Ahmed said the continued growth of Dubai International Airport (DXB), which has retained its position as the world's busiest for international passengers for 11 consecutive years, reflects Dubai's global aviation leadership. He noted the planned expansion of Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) will set new benchmarks in airport development.
Dubai Civil Aviation Authority Director-General Mohammed Abdulla Lengawi reaffirmed the authority's commitment to innovation, safety and sustainability, highlighting the show's role in fostering knowledge exchange across the global aviation community.
The event supports the US$1 trillion airport development market in the MEASA region. Airports in the Middle East are forecast to handle 1.1 billion passengers by 2040. Across Africa, 24 airport projects valued at $2.3 billion are underway. In Ethiopia, a new airport will serve 60 million passengers annually by 2040. Rwanda is building a $650 million airport in Kigali, while South Asia, led by India, is expanding its aviation infrastructure with plans for over 220 new airports by 2035.
Two major regional projects dominate spending: the $35 billion Al Maktoum International Airport expansion and the $50 billion airport in Riyadh, which together represent nearly 80 percent of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) airport development costs.
The show's conferences include the 12th Global Airport Leaders' Forum (GALF) and the Women in Aviation Middle East Conference, with more than 30 sessions and 70 expert speakers. GALF will feature keynotes from senior aviation leaders including the Director-General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and the Director of Engineering at Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects.
New features this year include the GSE Zone, Airport Tech Pavilion and Airport Design Hub. Industry leaders such as Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider Electric and ADB SAFEGATE will showcase next-generation airport technologies.
Airport Show 2025 continues to benefit from strong support by Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports, Emirates Airline and Group, dnata, and Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects. Amadeus is the event's Strategic Partner and Schneider Electric its Technology Partner. Waisl, Dubai Air Navigation Services, Smiths Detection and ADB SAFEGATE join as sponsors. Collaborating associations include the Women in Aviation Middle East Chapter and the Supply Chain and Logistics Group.
By 2050, Middle Eastern airports will require $151 billion in investment to manage a projected rise in passenger numbers. In 2024, regional airlines saw a 9.4 percent increase in traffic and an 80.8 percent load factor.

Watch: After 60 years in UAE, Indian educator gets first Dubai entry stamp

Indian expat Haji N Jamaluddin arrived in Dubai from Mumbai by ship on February 26, 1965. Sixty years after his original arrival, the veteran educator and founder of Crescent English High School was officially welcomed into Dubai. He received a special immigration stamp from Dubai Airports to commemorate 60 years since his arrival in the UAE, making up for the one he never received when he first set foot in the city. With no port and the city just taking shape in the 1960s, Haji N Jamaluddin never got a stamp on his passport, which usually documents entry and exit dates in the country. Six decades later, his son wanted to mark the occasion by giving his father a new Dubai entry stamp. In a heartwarming gesture that reflects the spirit of the UAE's Year of Community, Dubai Airports helped make the son's simple wish for his father come true. "This new entry stamp isn't just a mark in a passport, it's a tribute to everything Dubai has given us," said Jamaluddin. "My son wanted to honour the years I have spent here, and with the help of the Dubai Airports team, he made that possible." Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. In a social media post, Dubai Airport celebrated his legacy and wrote: "He arrived in Dubai by sea in 1965, before there was even a port There was no immigration stamp back then. As part of the 'Year of Community,' we felt privileged to finally put a stamp in his passport to celebrate a legacy shaped by service, humility, and hope. Now 90, Haji Jamaluddin still believes 'education is the best weapon for enlightenment.' A respected educator, chairman and founder of Crescent English High School, Jamaluddin has influenced the lives of thousands of students since opening the school in 1984. With more than 1,700 students enrolled today, it remains one of the most affordable private schools in the UAE. Located in Al Qusais, the yearly fees at the school begin at Dh3409 annually. His philosophy is simple: 'Money is not everything. Education is the best weapon for enlightenment.' Jamaluddin credits much of his passion to the leadership of the UAE, especially the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, whom he saw regularly visiting worksites in the early morning hours. 'He was always among the people and now Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is continuing that legacy. It's what makes Dubai what it is today.'

Dubai Airports Slashes Parking Fees Ahead of Summer Travel Surge

As Dubai International Airport gears up for one of its busiest travel seasons, Dubai Airports has rolled out reduced parking rates and a set of travel tips to help passengers enjoy a smoother, more efficient journey. From June 10 to 30, guests using long-term parking at all DXB terminals will benefit from significantly lowered fees—just in time for the peak summer holiday period. With over 250,000 passengers expected daily, the airport is offering these measures to ease congestion and enhance the overall travel experience. The special offer applies across Terminal 1 Car Park B, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3, with rates now set at AED 100 for three days, AED 200 for seven days, and AED 300 for 14 days. Travellers can also make use of DXB Express Maps, a real-time digital wayfinding tool accessible by scanning a QR code on any flight information screen. The service helps guests locate gates, amenities, restaurants, and retail outlets within the airport, simplifying navigation through the bustling terminals. To ensure a hassle-free experience, Dubai Airports has also issued ten travel tips for passengers: Check-in with ease: Emirates passengers are encouraged to use home check-in, early check-in, self-service kiosks, or city check-in options for faster processing. Arrive on time: Passengers flying with other airlines should not arrive more than three hours before departure. Online check-in is recommended where possible. Speed through immigration: Children aged 12 and above can use Smart Gates to pass through immigration more quickly. Be prepared: Weigh luggage at home, gather documents in advance, and be ready for security checks to avoid last-minute stress. Pack smart: Batteries and power banks are not allowed in checked baggage. These must be packed in hand luggage due to safety regulations. Use public transport: The Dubai Metro connects directly to Terminals 1 and 3, offering a convenient and reliable option, especially during peak hours or holidays. Plan for pickups: Visitors collecting guests are encouraged to use designated parking or valet services, which are also included in the temporary parking discount. Beat the traffic: Allow extra time when heading to the airport, as roads to DXB can get congested during peak travel periods. Support for People of Determination: DXB provides enhanced accessibility features, including marked routes, trained staff, and a dedicated lounge in Terminal 2. Enjoy the amenities: Once inside, travellers can relax with access to DXB's extensive shopping, dining, lounge, and hospitality options. Dubai Airports' latest initiatives reflect ongoing efforts to improve passenger comfort and convenience as the city welcomes a surge of summer travellers. News Source: Dubai Airports
