Dubai Police arrest illegal street vendors during Ramadan
Dubai Police have arrested 10 illegal street vendors for selling food in public areas without meeting health and safety standards. The vendors, who were operating without licenses, posed potential risks to public health, authorities said.
The crackdown is part of their ongoing 'A Conscious Society, Free of Beggars' campaign during the Holy Month.
Colonel Ahmad Al Adeedi, Deputy Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, warned against buying from unauthorized sellers, urging the public to rely on licensed businesses for food safety.
'These unauthorized vendors tend to operate near labour accommodation areas, where they attract customers by offering food products under unhygienic conditions,' Colonel Al Adeedi said in a news release.
Meanwhile, Major Talib Al Amiri, Head of the Street Vendors Control Section, cautioned that food sold by unlicensed vendors and vehicles is often stored and displayed improperly, increasing the risk of spoilage and foodborne illnesses.
Dubai Police, in coordination with relevant authorities, will continue round-the-clock patrols to identify and take action against violators. Authorities also encourage residents to report illegal vendors to help maintain public health and safety.

Upon receiving the tip-off, the Monitoring and Analysis Section began surveillance of the location and observed three Arab individuals selling these items and asking for money from the public. They were arrested on the spot. During questioning, the suspects confessed to being part of a larger organised begging ring. They had entered the UAE on visit visas and were residing in a hotel. In coordination with hotel management, 28 suspects of the same nationality were arrested. The following day, 10 more were apprehended as they attempted to leave the hotel. All admitted to operating as an organised group for begging and were referred to the relevant authorities for legal action. Intensified Patrols and Preventive Plans Dubai Police affirmed that the 'Combat Begging' campaign, launched annually in coordination with strategic partners, continues to effectively reduce the number of beggars yearly, thanks to the strict measures enforced against offenders. The force noted that a comprehensive annual security plan is implemented to combat begging, including increased patrols in areas where such activity is likely to occur. Dubai Police also monitor the evolving methods used by beggars to develop proactive strategies to counter them. The force warned that beggars often exploit religious occasions and holidays to provoke sympathy through professional and deceitful means—an act considered a criminal offence under UAE law. Dubai Police has reminded the public to contribute to charitable causes only through licensed associations and official channels to ensure donations reach those truly in need. The force also urged community members to report any begging activity by calling the toll-free number 901, using the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police smart app, or reporting online begging via the E-Crime platform ( ).

Arab fined for insulting nurse on Google Review
Mohammed Yaseen, Staff Reporter Dubai Misdemeanour Court convicted a young Arab man for defaming and insulting a nurse working at a health centre through a "Google Review." The suspect was fined Dhs5,000, with the sentence suspended for three years. Additionally, his phone was confiscated, and the offensive comments and data were removed from the website. The incident dates back to when an Arab nurse working at a medical fitness centre in Al Karama filed a complaint stating she was subjected to verbal abuse and insults while performing her duties. She explained that while drawing a blood sample from the suspect, routine procedure for renewing his health card, she later discovered that he had filed a complaint against her, accusing her of unprofessionalism in taking the sample. During the interrogation, the nurse revealed that the young man accused her of being unskilled and claimed she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on duty. She added that a colleague informed her about an offensive review on "Google Reviews," which included these accusations in an evaluation of the medical centre. According to a report from the General Department of Criminal Investigation, the owner of the account used to post the Google review was identified and arrested. During questioning, he admitted to the charges, explaining that he had visited the medical centre in Al Karama for a blood test to renew his residency. He claimed the nurse inserted the needle into his right hand, causing bleeding, and then repeated the process in the other hand, prompting him to file a complaint with the centre and post a negative review in both Arabic and English, describing the incident.
