As Kyle Pitts was gearing up to eventually be the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, landing with the Atlanta Falcons, it became highly-known that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had taken a liking to him.
It was never really going to happen, of course. The Cowboys were set to pick at slot No. 10 that year, and sources told us at the time they made calls to try to jump higher, all the way up to Miami at No. 6, while eyeing Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn.
But the Dolphins didn't move, taking receiver Jaylen Waddle.
And Dallas eventually did move, but backwards, to end up with Micah Parsons at No. 12.

And Atlanta stayed at No. 4 and they were delighted to take the phenom Pitts, the do-it-all Florida tight end.
Fast-forward to today, and some in Cowboys Nation still share Jerry's old dream.
On the list of dreamers is Terrence Parsons, Micah's brother, who has joined the army of those who have floated the idea of a Cowboys trade for Pitts.
"Imagine Jerry trading a 2nd round pick for Pitts we in the bowl,'' Terrence wrote.
Cowboys ex Dez Bryant has expressed the same desire.
And now along comes ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, with his usual weekend exercise of throwing gunk against the wall to see if it'll stick. Usually, Fowler makes sure to attach Dallas' name to his made-up fantasies, as he did last weekend by suggesting that the Cowboys were in a three-team bidding competition to trade for Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey. (Pssst: As CowboysCountry.com was first to report, the Cowboys were not in any way engaged there.)

Now, Fowler is "reporting'' that Pitts "would be open to'' a trade ... a note that simply doesn't pass The Smell Test. And why not?
Because Pitts has no voice in any of this. It doesn't matter if he likes it or not. And we'll bet Fowler never, ever asked Pitts his opinion.
Meanwhile ...
Pitts has accomplished very little in his Atlanta time. Indeed, by the accomplishments, he can't really stand out Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson.
In his promising rookie year, Pitts caught 68 balls for 1,026 but with just one TD. But since then? He averages over three years about 500 yards on 50 catches with three TDs.

He is, by the numbers, just a guy.
But rather than Dallas thinking about "fixing him,'' the Falcons are doing so.
They are counting on young Michael Penix Jr. to become their franchise QB to solve some of the problems.
And ...
Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson has a plan.
'I think for Kyle, it's just how can he take that next step … next level of details, next level of consistency, all those things that we've talked about with him and have talked about in the past,' Robinson said. 'He's in Year 2 of the system, and I think the thing we've always talked about with Kyle is just play fast.
"No matter what, play fast, take the thinking out involved with it.'

All things considered, the Cowboys are satisfied with Ferguson the player rather than with Pitts the name.
