In a series of mocking posts they branded former Rangers 'ultra' McGill a 'keyboard gangster' who was engaged in 'school boy' attacks via his TMJ gang. Feared Daniels enforcer Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll was gunned down in 2010 as he sat in the back seat of an Audi in the Asda car park in Robroyston. The son-in-law of mobster Jamie Daniel, he was known for kidnapping and torturing rival drug dealers in attacks dubbed "alien abductions". Ross Monaghan was arrested over the shooting but was acquitted after a judge at the High Court in Glasgow ruled there was insufficient evidence to convict him. William 'Buff' Paterson, 45, was later convicted of the murder in 2015 and sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison. Earlier this week the Record revealed that around a dozen senior members from the Daniel clan and Richardson mob had fled Scotland. An underworld source said: 'Nobody knows exactly where they have gone or how long for but most of them are believed to be in Dubai and the rest are in the Costa del Sol. 'The TMJ gang were watching closely and hoping to catch one of them out in the open but all of a sudden they just upped sticks and left." The move came after Spanish cops blamed the double execution of Lyons Jnr and pal Ross Monaghan on "an internal member of the Daniel gang". Boss Steven Lyons is believed to have ordered bloody recriminations from his bolthole in Dubai following the deaths of his brother Eddie and trusted pal Monaghan. The source added: "Steven Lyons wants serious revenge for the death of his brother and best friend. Steven won't be content or even able to grieve properly until he claims some serious scalps from within the Daniel and Richardson gangs." Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said: "We have been assisting Spanish colleagues with their investigation into the fatal shootings in Fuengirola. "We are not aware of any current evidence which suggests the deaths of these two men in Spain are linked to the recent criminal attacks in Scotland being investigated as part of Operation Portaledge." Michael Riley, 44, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in connection with the shooting in Spain later today. Brits hit with £640 fine warning for buying items from certain places in Spain
In a brutal new crackdown, Spanish authorities are said to be imposing hefty fines for tourists found to be buying souvenirs and other items from certain types of street vendors A popular Spanish city has unveiled a brutal clampdown that could see Brits slapped with a hefty fine. Police in Palma, the capital of Majorca, are reportedly imposing the first penalties against people found to have purchased products such as sunglasses, bags, and souvenirs from illegal street sellers. It comes as the town hall launched a new ordinance on May 26 - which strictly prohibits both residents and holidaymakers in the Litoral district (which spans from Can Pere Antoni to Arenal) from buying items from unauthorised vendors. Often referred to as 'looky looky' men, tourist-riddled hotspots like Spain are rife with dodgy merchants that often sell counterfeit products such as fake designer handbags and scarves. Of course, selling knock-off goods has never been legal in Spain, and provisions to fine counterfeit sellers and their customers have been in place since 2018. However, Spain is cracking down on this with a set of bylaws updating existing regulations, arguing the black-market train 'harms legal establishments'. According to Majorca Daily Bulletin, sellers themselves are subject to sky-high fines of between €750 and €1,500 (approximately £640 and £1,281 respectively). For tourists, fines start at €100 (£85) but can climb up to €750 (£640). Presumably, this will depend on the number of illegal goods being purchased. "In one case, eleven sunglasses were seized from the seller as evidence of illegal vending, while the purchaser was fined for 'making a purchase from an unlicensed street vendor on the public way'," the publication states - citing a recent police report. "This doesn't say if the person fined was a tourist or a resident." It is believed the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands regularly publishes pages with a list of offenders. However, many street vendors have no known address, which has cast the effectiveness of the steep fines into doubt. The announcement comes just days after Palma has also unveiled ambitious plans to cut down the number of sunbeds on its beaches by a whopping 1,700 by next year. As previously reported, the city's council has allegedly green-lighted plans to reduce sun loungers by 20 per cent by 2026, citing both over-tourism and rising levels. "There has been a loss of sand on the beaches, and we couldn't maintain the same number of sunbeds and umbrellas - and this has coincided with complaints from residents who feel they have less space," a spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs of the Balearic Islands reportedly said. "The mayor [Jaime Martínez] is aware that the majority of residents don't use the sun bed service, so we decided to implement this redistribution." The Local Es, a Spanish news site, claims this will impact several popular stretches of coastline, and will see Platja de Palma go from 6,000 sunbeds down to 4,436. The publication says Cala Major beach will go from 300 to 250 sunbeds, while Cala Estància will also have 18 fewer sunbeds by next year.

Quiet Spanish town 'like an underrated Barcelona' but without the crowds
Intrepid Travel's West Europe general manager Florencia Allo Moreno has recommended that anyone looking for a slightly quieter but no less pleasant trip to Spain visit Girona Colourful houses line the banks of the central river in a town typically overlooked by Brits. Over the weekend, protesters hit the streets in several Spanish cities and resort islands, squirting holidaymakers with water pistols and making their dissatisfaction with overtourism known. For those who want to avoid any tension with locals while they are away on holiday, or just fancy being somewhere a little quieter, then there are quieter, less overloaded destinations in Spin that have a huge amount going for them. Intrepid Travel's West Europe general manager Florencia Allo Moreno, who lives in Spain, told the Mirror: "We understand the frustration from protestors – tourism should not be at the expense of the local communities that live there. The industry needs to come together to better educate, advocate and regulate for a solution. "There are also ways that tourists themselves can travel responsibly. That includes considering travelling in shoulder season, visiting alternative destinations that offer a similar experience, supporting local businesses and also being a respectful traveller – remember you are visiting someone else's home.' One of those alternative destinations, according to Florencia, is Girona. "This jewel of Catalonia is a short train ride away from Barcelona, and renowned for its medieval architecture. The medieval walls of the city have stood since the 14 th century and several scenes of Game of Thrones were filmed there," she explained. It is the age of the city, and its impressive architecture, that draws most people to Girona. Also called the Passeig de la Muralla, a walk on the medieval walls is a must-do activity while there. The city walls span the eastern border of the old town, delivering views over the city from the top that are spectacular. The Jewish Quarter in Girona is one of the best preserved in the world, acting as it did as home for a large Jewish population from 982 to 1492. Today it is a warren of narrow cobbled lanes that provide a baffling maze to visitors. Hanging over it all is Girona Cathedral, a towering structure that dominates the skyline from its position on top of the hill. The only way into the cathedral is to climb the long staircase to the entrance. It competes with Pont de les Peixateries Velles as the most famous single structure in the city. Gustav Eiffel constructed the bridge in Girona over the Onyar River, just before he turned his attention to building the Eiffel Tower. Landscaped gardens line the Passeig Arqueològic, a walkway following the Old Quarter's medieval walls, which include watchtowers with sweeping views. Much like Dubrovnik in Croatia, Girona has become a major destination for Game of Thrones fans in recent years. The Cathedral was used in Season 6 of Game of Thrones, when the city as a whole acted as a backdrop for Braavos. What's particularly pleasant about Girona is its climate. While it delivers sunshine and blue skies on most days in the summer and spring, its location in the far northeast of Spain, not far from the Mediterranean coast, means you're unlikely to get roasted during a visit there. The hottest days tend to sit in the low 30s, when a cooling breeze from the sea arrives to take the edge off. During those hotter days, a trip to Plaça Independencia is in order. The lovely square is located just west of the Onyar River and is a good spot to relax with a coffee or wine in between the sightseeing.
