F1 broadcast of Hamilton-Leclerc swap was a joke
Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur took aim at Formula One's 'joke' broadcast of the Chinese Grand Prix as he accused the sport of deliberately creating a show when Lewis Hamilton offered to move aside for Charles Leclerc.
Hamilton volunteered to allow team-mate Leclerc through for fifth as he struggled for speed. However, Hamilton's radio message was not shown on the international feed.
Instead the broadcast picked up on Hamilton's race engineer Riccardo Adami telling the seven-time world champion that 'we are swapping cars at Turn 14'.
Hamilton told Adami he was closing up on George Russell ahead of him and would allow Leclerc through when 'he was closer'.
Hamilton was then instructed to 'swap this lap'. The 40-year-old hit back by replying: 'I'll tell you when we can swap.' Hamilton moved over for Leclerc moments later.
The exchanges between Hamilton and Adami arrived a week after the British driver told his new race engineer to 'leave him to it' at the opening round in Australia.
And, speaking after the race in Shanghai, team principal Vasseur said: 'This is a joke from FOM (Formula One Management), because the first call came from Lewis to swap. Lewis suggested it.
'But to make the show, to create the mess around the situation, they did not broadcast the first part of the exchange. So I will discuss it with them.
'We have to work for the team and consider the best thing for Ferrari. The collaboration between the two guys (Hamilton and Leclerc) is mega and I cannot complain about it.'
Vasseur was speaking before both Hamilton and Leclerc were disqualified from fifth and sixth places for illegalities on their cars. Hamilton's floor ran too close to the ground, while Leclerc's machine was underweight.
Addressing the swap with Leclerc, Hamilton said: 'We didn't really have a battle. He just had more pace than me. I was struggling with the car so I told the team to let him by. It was my idea.'

Fabio Wardley shocked the world with a come from behind knockout to defeat Justis Huni on a rainy night at Portman Road. The British sensation was due to face Jarrell Miller, but the American was forced to pull out due to injury. In the sport of boxing, the show must go on - with Wardley eager to put on a performance in front of his beloved Ipswich faithful. While there was not much to cheer about at Portman Road this year, Wardley lit up the town of Ipswich after putting on a career defining performance. The 30-year-old has called for the winner of Daniel Dubois' rematch with Oleksandr Usyk and it is fair to say that he has put the division on notice as he edges closer to a world title shot. Huni - on paper - looked set to be the toughest test of Wardley's career. After establishing himself as a top prospect in his native Australia, tonight's contest marked his first fight on the UK shores. However, when the lights were at its brightest, the Ipswich pugilist and former recruitment worker shone in a big way. As he marched to the centre of the ring, Wardley was greeted and roared on by his home faithful. The 30-year-old looked locked in from the very first bell. In the opening exchanges, the Brit was clearly looking for the right hand early in a bid to unsettle the man from Down Under. But back came the Aussie - who landed big left to the body followed by a huge right hand. In a close opening three minutes, a sharp right hand from Wardley may have given the Ipswich native the round. Lovely left hook from the young Aussie got proceedings underway in the second. Despite all the boos, it was evident Huni was unfazed by all the negative noise. The 26-year-old's speed was on full force in the second, but on the pressure, Wardley fired back with a few sharp shots downstairs. In close quarters, Wardley's power shots over the top seemed to land. But Huni showed that brave, warrior, spirit to remain calm and continue on the front foot. The Aussie silenced the Portman Road crowd early in the third after finding a home with the right hand, but the Brit showed real adversity, boxing sharply on the ropes before his hungry rival fired back with a big combination. Towards the back end, the Ipswich native had the 26-year-old under the cosh after a few right hands landed clean. Huni came to silence the crowd, and it was his speed and sharpness that did just that in the early rounds. The heavyweight brawlers traded leather in close proximity in the fourth. Wardley had his success, but the Aussie's will to press forward caught the hometown favourite off-guard. Despite absorbing a huge right hand over the top, Huni took it clean on and fired back with his own combination. Light on his feet, it was clear Huni was enjoying himself in the squared-circle. The Aussie was evidently licking his lips after seeing his British rival breathing heavily in the centre of the ring. Deep in the fifth, Wardley detonated a sharp left hook, but was clearly struggling with the pace. Huni began to run away with it in the sixth. The speed, the jab, the footwork was on full display. The surging star snapped Wardley's head back with a stinging jab before landing two right hands on the button along with another right hand over the top. Wardley was looking out of ideas and was in desperate need of support from his home fans. A double right hand forced Wardley back in the seventh as Huni continued to stalk his prey. Once again, the right hand was on full force from the Aussie - who was eager to draw quite the attention from the big boys in boxing's heaviest division. In the co-main event Pierce O'Leary defeated Liam Dillon to claim the European super-lightweight champion. From start to finish, the Irishman was dominant and rarely looked in any real danger of being stopped. Inside Pink Floyd star's super car collection worth £200million including rare Ferrari and motor from Steve McQueen film
A ROCK legend boasts a supercar collection to die for that includes a rare Ferrari and a motor from a Steve McQueen film. The Pink Floyd star also owns the world's most expensive motor worth a staggering £40 million. 5 5 5 Legendary drummer, Nick Mason, and his wife Anette showed off the impressive collection ahead of opening up the gardens of his 18th century home to visitors this weekend. A rare 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO took pride of place among the collection as its one of only 36 ever built. It's understood Mason paid £37k for it back in 1978 but it is estimated to be worth over £40 million today. The car finished third in the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours race before he bought it and has never been restored. His fleet of rare Ferraris also includes the 512S which featured in the making of Steve McQueen's Le Mans before it was badly damaged by fire and then completely restored. Others on display included an F40, a GTB/4 Daytona, 1953 Ferrari 250MM, and a LaFerrari hybrid. It is estimated there are 40 sports cars in his garage worth a total of around £200 million. Other rare vehicles include a 1901 Panhard 5-liter, a 1927 Bugatti Type 35B, a 1957 Maserati 250F, a Birdcage Maserati, a 1955 Jaguar D-Type and a 1996 McLaren F1 GTR. He also owns several Aston Martins including an Ulster, and an LM17, LM18 and LM21. Mason hosted the Middlewick House Open Garden this weekend that saw thousands attend and admire his stunning collection of vehicles. The annual event in Corsham, Wiltshire, is a favourite among car aficionados and owners of Jaguars, Ferraris, Aston Martins, and more, who bring their vehicles to complement Mr Mason's collection. Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, one of the charities that benefit from the event, described it as a "Mecca for car clubs and owners of Jaguars, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lotus, Maclarens, Bugattis and Porsches." The event's other beneficiary, Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, said more than 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the open garden and the attendance record is expected to be smashed this year. Last year, more than 11,000 people attended, raising a whopping £124,000 for charity. As well as the extensive car collection, guests were also able to view the air ambulance's Bell 429 helicopter with its operation aircrew due to be on-site to give people a closer look. The event also featured stalls manned by local artisans and food vendors, as well as live music, children's activities, and a play area. The event's website said: "Wander around the beautiful gardens and menagerie of animals, as well as seeing a selection of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason's classic and high performance cars. "The family-friendly weekend includes plenty of stalls to browse, with lots of items for sale, including jewellery, plants, candles, and art." And if you haven't had enough of car collections, F1 star Lando Norris lifted the lid on his luxury car collection last month.
