Union Minister Jitendra Singh to launch month-long Special Campaign 2.0 for redressal of grievances of pensioners
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): The Government of India is committed towards the empowerment of women and the welfare of senior citizens by effective redressal of Central Government pensioners' grievances.
In this connection, it has been decided to undertake a month-long Special Campaign 2.0, during the period July 1-31, 2025, for the timely and qualitative redressal of Grievances of Family Pensioners and Super Senior Pensioners in a mission mode approach, said the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions.
The Special Campaign 2.0 will be launched by Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
A total number of 2,210 pension grievances have been taken up and shared with the 51 Ministries/Departments/Organisations for redressal under the campaign.
A preparatory meeting under the chairmanship of the Secretary (Pension) was held on 11th June, 2025, with the Nodal Officers handling Pensioners' grievances. In the meeting, the guidelines issued for ensuring the smooth and seamless execution of the Special Campaign 2.0 were deliberated.
Secretary (Pension) underscored that the prime objective of the campaign is to provide qualitative redressal of the grievances. Hence, it was emphasised that the grievances should be closed on the CPENGRAMS Portal only after their conclusive redressal.
Further, it was informed that DoPPW will coordinate the implementation of the campaign and provide necessary assistance during the Campaign. Further, it was highlighted that Success stories/Best practices may be widely disseminated by the concerned Ministry/Department/Organisation through PIB/Tweet with a copy endorsed to this Department. The crash, which claimed the lives of nearly all 242 onboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, marks one of the worst civil aviation disasters in India in over a decade. 'The official number of deceased will only be confirmed after DNA testing and identification by authorities. But yes, I have met the surviving passenger,' Shah said. He also said that both the Centre and the state government responded to the tragedy swiftly. 'Within just 10 minutes of the accident, the Government of India received information. I immediately got in touch with the chief minister, the home minister, the home department control room, the civil aviation department, and the civil aviation minister. The Prime Minister also called immediately.' Adding, 'All departments of the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat began coordinated relief and rescue operations without delay.' The survivor's story, though yet to be fully known, has emerged as a symbol of hope amid overwhelming loss. The rest of the rescue and recovery process, however, remains grim. The home minister detailed the coordinated multi-agency response initiated in the immediate aftermath. 'Immediately after the incident, the Gujarat government activated all disaster management units—be it the health department, the fire brigade, or the police department…also coordinated with the CAPF. All agencies worked together to begin relief and rescue operations,' he said. Yet, the intensity of the fire left by the crash was a near-insurmountable barrier. 'Since there were over 1.25 lakh litres of fuel in the aircraft, the temperature rose to such extreme levels that there was no opportunity to rescue anyone,' he explained. After visiting the crash site, Shah offered a situational update: 'The task of retrieving the deceased bodies of the passengers is nearly complete. DNA collection from family members who have already arrived here will be completed in two to three hours.' Efforts to notify and involve next of kin overseas have also been completed, he said, adding, 'For passengers with relatives abroad, information has already been conveyed. Once they arrive, their DNA samples will also be collected. DNA collection from the recovered bodies is also complete.' Shah underscored that Gujarat is equipped to handle the task. 'Around 1,000 DNA tests will need to be conducted here in Gujarat itself. Gujarat has the capacity to conduct all these tests, so there is no need to send samples outside the state. Gujarat's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Science University will together complete the testing as quickly as possible, so that the bodies can be handed over to the families.' Apart from identification, the human cost of the tragedy is being addressed through logistical and medical support. 'All arrangements have been made for accommodation, emotional support, and medical care for those who are experiencing trauma or distress due to the tragedy,' he said. A review meeting held earlier in the day helped assess ongoing operations, Shah pointed out. 'In today's review meeting, all the ministers jointly examined the arrangements. The aviation Department has started its investigation. The civil aviation minister has also assured that the inquiry will move forward quickly.' Recognizing the efforts of first responders, Shah added, 'Once again, I want to thank all the agencies involved in rescue and relief for their swift response.' Shah further said that accidents cannot be prevented entirely. 'I must say this—accidents cannot be prevented entirely. But the readiness of an administration is truly tested in moments like this. And today, Gujarat's disaster management preparedness, though tested under tragic circumstances, has proven itself. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel visits Ahmedabad Hospital to meet plane crash victims
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 12 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday rushed to Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where victims of the Air India plane crash were admitted for treatment. Expressing grief over the tragic incident, CM Patel assured comprehensive support for rescue and relief operations. Chief Minister directed authorities to establish a green corridor to expedite the transfer of injured passengers to medical facilities. He also ensured that hospitals are equipped to provide priority treatment. In a post on X, CM Patel stated, 'I am deeply saddened by the accident of the Air India passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. I have instructed the officials to take immediate rescue and relief operations in the accident and to make arrangements for immediate treatment of the injured passengers on a war footing. I have also instructed to arrange a green corridor to take the injured passengers for treatment and to ensure all the treatment arrangements in the hospital are given priority. The Honourable Union Home Minister Shri Amitbhai Shah has also spoken to me and assured full support of the NDRF teams and the Central Government for the rescue and relief operations in this plane crash.' According to his X post, PM Modi has also been closely monitoring the situation and is in constant communication with state authorities. Earlier today, an Air India plane from Ahmedabad to London with 242 passengers crashed in the Meghaninagar area near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that a team has been rushed to the spot for investigation. The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. Capt Sumeet Sabharwal is an LTC with 8200 hours of experience, and the official added that the copilot had 1100 hours of flying experience. As per ATC, the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. The aircraft fell on the ground outside the airport perimeter immediately after departing Runway 23. The official said heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site. Thick plumes of smoke could be seen at the accident spot. (ANI)

"Extremely sad and painful": MoS Home Nityanad Rai expresses grief over Ahmedabad plane crash
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, on Thursday expressed grief over the plane crash in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, involving an Air India flight en route to Gatwick in London. In a post on X, Rai said, 'The news of the plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and painful. May God give strength to the families who have lost their loved ones to bear this sorrow.' BJP leader Kavinder Gupta termed the accident 'massive' and prayed for the recovery of the injured. 'We can only pray to God that everyone is safe. This is a massive accident. We can say anything only after we get official information,' Gupta told ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, terming it 'heartbreaking beyond words.' In a post on X, PM Modi conveyed his condolences and assured assistance to those affected. According to the post, PM Modi has been closely monitoring the situation and is in constant communication with state authorities. 'The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,' the Prime Minister wrote. Confirming the incident, Air India said that among the 242 passengers, 169 were Indians, 53 Britishers, seven portugese and one Canadian national. 'Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hours, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals. The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals. We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number, 1800 5691 444, to provide more information. Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident,' the airline said. According to officials, the aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, an LTC with 8,200 hours of flying experience. He was assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had 1,100 hours of flying experience. As per Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Runway 23 at 1339 IST (0809 UTC). It gave a mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, no response was given by the aircraft to the calls made by ATC. 'Aircraft immediately after departure from Runway 23, fell on the ground outside the airport perimeter. Heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site,' the official added. (ANI)
