Man City seal £46.3m signing of midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan

Manchester City have completed the £46.3million signing of Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan. The Premier League club have confirmed the 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. Advertisement His arrival makes it four signings in a week for City, who announced deals for £30.5m midfielder Rayan Cherki from Lyon and Chelsea's third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli on Tuesday, while left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri joined from Wolves in a £31.3m move on Monday. Those transfers have been finalised in time for the players to be registered for the group stages of the Club World Cup this month. Reijnders arrives at City after impressing in an otherwise disappointing season at Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A and missed out on qualification for Europe. He scored 15 goals in the 2024-25 campaign and will bolster Pep Guardiola's midfield options following this summer's departure of Kevin De Bruyne. Advertisement City's latest transfer activity continues an overhaul of the squad that began with the January signings of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis. Further deals are also possible as the club respond to a disappointing season in which they failed to mount a strong Premier League title defence and exited the Champions League before the last 16. City will play their first match in the Club World Cup against Morocco's Wydad Casablanca on June 18 and have further group games against Al Ain of Abu Dhabi and Juventus.

Former Wanderers youth product heading for the Champions League next season

FORMER Wanderers talent Dennis Politic has made a big money move to Romanian champions Steau Bucharest. After two impressive seasons with city rivals Dinamo, the 25-year-old was signed for a reported €900,000 (£762,000) plus winger Alexandru Musi. Advertisement Steau mistakenly put a picture of Musi up on their social media announcement before quickly rectifying their error on Tuesday afternoon – but Politic, who signs a three-year deal, at least has the comfort of playing Champions League football next season. The skilful attacker spent three years at Bolton's academy after initially coming to the country from Romania in 2015 to play for Manchester United. After a productive spell on loan with Salford City, he was promoted to first team level by Phil Parkinson and was one of the 'Junior Whites' who played against Coventry City in August 2019, the line-up being the youngest ever named by the club. Politic was expected to play a part in Ian Evatt's first squad at Bolton but a serious knee injury suffered in a pre-season friendly at Loughborough University in August 2020 left him out of action until the following summer. He did appear briefly in in the 2021/22 pre-season friendlies but was then loaned out to Port Vale for the final year of his contract, eventually signing for Italian side Cremonese. Politic came back to England with Vale after a dismal spell in Italy, scoring seven times in 29 games, but then returned to Romania with Dinamo, where his reputation has grown ever since. Advertisement After two years with 'The Dogs' of Dinamo, Politic issued a message on his Instagram account thanking the club and their fans for their support. He wrote: "I experienced intense and special moments in the Dinamo shirt, from saving them from relegation last season to entering the play-offs after eight years. There were moments that shaped me as a player and as a person. 'I was warmly welcomed and felt like part of a real family, even in the hardest moments. I thank my colleagues, the staff and especially you, the fans, for your sincere support and incredible passion. "The time has come for a new chapter in my career. I don't forget what it was and I leave with respect and gratitude. I wish you all the best in the world and to see your club where it belongs, up there, fighting for glory.' FC Barcelona Coach Flick Chooses Surprise Transfer Target

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has picked a surprising player as a potential transfer target this summer according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources. The German is the man of the hour in Catalonia after leading Barca to an impressive domestic treble in his maiden term. Had the Catalans managed to hold on for a few more minutes at the San Siro with a 3-2 lead, after trailing by two goals, he would have also taken them to a first Champions League final since 2015. That wasn't to be, as Inter Milan equalized in the 93rd minute and then scored in extra time to secure a 4-3 win on the night and dramatic 7-6 aggregate victory as part of what many called the best UCL last four tie of all time. Reacting to the loss, and the amount of goals conceded against an outfit that didn't manage to put a single strike past Paris Saint-Germain in a 5-0 thrashing that was the European competition's final, Barca is already closing in on a goalkeeper talked up as potentially world class in Joan Garcia. On Wednesday, the 24-year-old's controversial switch from crosstown rival Espanyol to don Blaugrana should be completed by depositing his $28.5 million (€25 million) release clause, which could turn out to be a bargain in the long run. After that deal has been wrapped up and announced, Barca will then move on to trying to buy an attacker that is capable of playing primarily on the left wing and other positions across the frontline. Top targets in that respect are Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, who Flick gave his thumbs up to in January, and Liverpool's Luis Diaz. On Tuesday night, though, Mundo Deportivo reported that Flick has highlighted another potential signing that is 'not incompatible' with a Colombian international in Luis Diaz who is now an 'absolute priority' according to the newspaper. That's none other than Ivan Perisic, with whom Flick won the Champions League in 2020 and is fancied to strengthen Barca's attack 'due to his versatility and experience'. Unlike Diaz, who is expected to cost at least $97 million (€85 million) to buy from a Premier League giant that has lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid but is expected to sign German wonderkid Florian Wirtz, Perisic would cost nothing. The 36-year-old, who has just won the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, also wouldn't have high salary demands and wants to continue competing at the highest level to arrive at the World Cup in peak shape next year. It goes without saying that born winner Perisic would give FC Barcelona more options moving forward. Not only able to give the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha a rest when needed, he would be sure to become a fan favourite for his work rate and intensity.
