Leroy Sané in Istanbul for Galatasaray talks as Bayern contract expires
ISTANBUL (AP) — Germany winger Leroy Sané is in Turkey for talks with Galatasaray about signing as a free agent when his Bayern Munich contract expires. The Turkish league champion confirmed on social media late Wednesday that Sané had arrived in Istanbul for negotiations. Sané is set to leave Bayern when his contract expires at the end of the month after talks on a possible extension dragged on through the season without a resolution, even as Bayern reached agreements on new contracts with teammates like Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich . That will end a five-year stay with Bayern, which signed Sané in 2020 for a reported fee of just under 50 million euros (then $56.3 million) after a lengthy pursuit of the then-Manchester City player. During his time in Munich, he's won the Bundesliga four times, but has faced criticism in recent seasons for a perceived lack of consistency, especially in European games. Sané scored 13 times in 45 games across all competitions for Bayern this season but only one of those goals came in the Champions League. ___ AP soccer:

Leroy Sané explains decision to join Galatasaray
Leroy Sané landed in Istanbul on Wednesday night ahead of his impending move to Galatasaray from Bayern Munich on a free transfer. Shortly after his arrival, the 29-year-old winger gave a brief interview while a large crowd of fans waited nearby, chanting his name. Advertisement 'I'm really happy to be here. I can already hear the fans and I'm looking forward to meeting them. It's already loud here, so I can't wait to play my first home game in front of the fans. I'm grateful that so many people came out so late just to see me," Sané said. Explaining what convinced him to join Galatasaray from Bayern Munich after five years, Sané added: 'The overall package, the atmosphere, how much the club wanted me, how much the fans wanted me. In the end, it was the total package that convinced me to say: 'Okay, I'm coming to Galatasaray.' I want to achieve big things with this club.' According to reports, Bayern had offered Sané a guaranteed €12 million per year plus up to €3.5 million in bonuses. At Galatasaray, he is reportedly set to earn €13 million per year, with the potential to increase to €15 million including bonuses.
