Scotland's first gay footballer Zander Murray to host Pride events
The Lunch & Learn session will be hosted at The Social Hub by Zander, who will share his personal journey, the challenges he's faced, and how visibility and representation can help create a more inclusive future for LGBTQ+ athletes.
Murray will also host a community dinner at The Social Hub on Thursday 17 July, a celebration of connection, collaboration, and creativity.
The former footballer, who played for Lowland League team Gala Fairydean when he came out, said: 'In a city that means so much to me, this kind of event matters. It's not just about being seen. It's about being heard.'
Murray became the first openly gay male footballer in Scotland in 2022. Since then, he has become a tireless advocate for inclusivity in sport.
Zander Murray during his playing days (Image: Social Hub) He said: 'I was just sitting on a balcony in Benidorm, no Instagram, no Twitter, just me thinking, I'm finally ready. So I made this wee post for the lads on my team. Fell asleep. Woke up to messages from Lorraine Kelly. I'm like, what is going on? I was literally told to get a flight to London to be on her show. It was insane.'
'I signed for a new club just after coming out, and suddenly the BBC documentary dropped early. I was presenting it, doing press, trying to stay match-fit. It was too much. I had to leave pre-season camp early to lead Edinburgh Pride. Two weeks later, I was off to Hong Kong to speak at the Gay Games. The advocacy just took over.'
He added: 'You don't get slagged for missing a pass. They go for your sexuality. Twitter, TikTok, the comments. It's brutal. And it messes with your head. You're already under pressure just being a footballer. Add all that, and it's too much.'
Murray is now an award-winning keynote speaker, delivering talks and workshops across schools, football academies and corporate organisations including LinkedIn, Morgan Stanley, UEFA and the Hong Kong Gay Games, helping to shift attitudes and win over hearts and minds.

Who's said it? And after I tell my story, you can see the penny drop. That moment is when things start to change.'
Murray has travelled across the UK and internationally for advocacy work, from the Gay Games in Hong Kong to Pride events in Manchester and London, but says returning to Glasgow always hits differently.
'Any work in Glasgow means everything to me. I don't have to slow my voice down. The crowds get it. I'm from here. It's personal. I see my younger self in all of them.'
'You walk into a room in the east end and the lads are pure giggling, acting daft. But once you tell them what it was like growing up gay in a scheme, they get it. You see the shift happen in real time. That's the power of doing it here.'

M3GAN 2.0, review: A riotous return for the viral psychotic doll
When the decision was made to produce a follow-up to M3GAN – the popular 2023 horror about an artificially intelligent doll that turns evil – writer-director Gerard Johnson faced what might be called the 'Jurassic Park problem'. In a sequel to a film in which a fun invention ends up causing the violent deaths of multiple innocent parties, how do you get one of the survivors to say with a straight face: 'Right then, guys, who's up for building another one?' This uproarious (if not especially scary) sequel has the measure of the task at hand's silliness, and leans into it with infectious glee. However you thought a M3GAN sequel might begin, it probably wasn't with a helicopter shot of a desert compound and the caption: 'Somewhere near the Turkey-Iran border' – yet here we are, in a highly topical war zone, where an even nimbler and more murderous M3GAN successor, known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), is in the process of becoming a headache for the US secret services. The only way to bring this new rogue AI under control, it transpires, is to boot up the old one in all her prim, pussy-bowed glory – and hope that this time she decides to take humanity's side. No one could argue that the original M3GAN carried itself like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: highlights included its title character singing Sia's Titanium and sashaying through a dance that subsequently went viral on TikTok. But this second chapter is so driven by antics – and wisely so – that it barely qualifies as horror at all. Tonally, the genre it most recalls, in fact, is a very specific one: films from the Eighties and Nineties, which you'd swear had originally been aimed at children but discover on rewatching that they're completely unsuitable for anyone below their mid-teens; think Gremlins, Kindergarten Cop, and so on. There is relatively little here in the way of honest fright. Rather, as M3GAN's human creator Gemma (Allison Williams) becomes increasingly embroiled in her comeback, there are glamorous parties to infiltrate, concept cars to hijack – AI self-drivers, naturally – and heists to pull off, with the aid of chloroformed handkerchiefs. M3GAN herself, played again by 14-year-old dancer Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis, is less spooky possessed doll than sassy robo-mascot, with dialogue that couldn't have been cattier if it had come from a Whiskas tin. In her temporary exoskeletal form, she reminds you of Johnny Five in the Short Circuit films – there's a lovely, tactile judder to her movements as she trundles around her lair – while Amelia's quadrupedal scuttle has a stop-motion feel that adds to the film's comic bite. So too does Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement, who pops up as a smug, sleazebag tech bro, and comedian Aristotle Athari, who delivers a subtly berkish variant. And while Johnson's screenplay makes great play of the topicality of the AI debate, it adds – by design, I think – absolutely nothing of value to the discussion at all. Will clips of M3GAN 2.0 appear in AI documentaries 50 years from now, as an example of what we poor saps worried was on the horizon? Almost inevitably. But for now, its loopy verve is reassuringly human. 15 cert, 120 min. In cinemas from Friday June 27

Whilst she was pregnant, Victoria Wright, who is better known as 'Vickaboox' online, nabbed a haul of bargain buys from B&M and Primark to give her outside space a mega makeover. The 29-year-old content creator, who now has a baby boy called Christopher, took to social media to share her balcony transformation, leaving many totally stunned. The mum-of-one who lives in a flat, showed off her 'basic' balcony and said: 'Let's take our balcony from boring, basic, plain, crusty, dusty to year of the bad B, not the sad B, cocktail in hand vibes and of course we've done it on the cheap using everything from Primark and B&M.' The influencer then revealed the step-by-step process of the balcony overhaul, as she added: 'So first of all, we cleaned the balcony…then once everything was clean, we laid out our new outdoor rug - this one was on sale in B&M for £12. 'We also got some reed screening from B&M on sale for £10, just to give that tropical vibe and also for a bit more privacy.' Victoria attached the reed screening with cable ties to ensure it was 'nice and secure' and explained that when they move, they can remove it easily without any damage. To then give the balcony a bit of colour, she added £1 hanging pots she bought from Primark and planted some flowers. Following this, she accessorised the space with cheap LED fairy lights and tea light holders. Thrilled with her balcony's new look, Victoria beamed: 'I think this looks super fun, super colourful, also deposit friendly because we rent, so we didn't have to change anything or make any dramatic changes. 'Just added a little bit of life and a bit of colour. I love it.' The Voice UK in format shake-up as fan-favourite round returns after five years – despite show being shelved for 2025
THE Voice UK will undergo a big format change when it returns with its new celebrity coaching line-up. The popular singing contest will be back on ITV next year and longstanding fans are likely to welcome the switch up. 6 6 6 For the first time in five years, bosses for The Voice UK have decided to bring back a segment that has previously featured on the show. According to Super TV, the battle rounds will be making a welcomed comeback. In recent years, the format of the UK version of the singing contest has seen the coaches decide who they want to take through to the final after all of the auditions have aired. The reintroduction of the battle rounds will mean all the singers have to go head-to-head to continue in the competition. Previously disgruntled fans will be delighted with the news, as it means the strongest singer should win the show. The last time the battle rounds featured on The Voice UK was in 2021. The segment was ditched for the 2022 series of the show - and even judge Sir Tom Jones was not happy. Speaking at the 2024 launch, the 84-year-old Welsh star told Virgin Radio that not having the battle rounds made the coaches' job much harder. He said: "[Before] they'd have to battle it out, so then the strongest one would win. "But the battles are not there any more, so now the callbacks come very quickly, and you don't really get a chance to work with the [singers] as much as we used to. The Voice 2025 series delayed until next year after signing up new US superstar judge 'I wish – not to go against the producers – but I think it could be longer, the singers could have more time with us." The Voice UK will return to screens next year, as it is taking a break for 2025. Earlier this month, it was revealed Kelly Rowland has replaced LeAnn Rimes as one of the celebrity coaches. ITV 's signing of the Grammy -winning Destiny's Child singer, 44, was announced just before filming for the 2026 series gets underway this summer. Kelly, who previously judged on The X Factor UK in 2011 and coached on The Voice Australia, said she is 'excited' to be joining the panel. LeAnn, 42, left the show earlier this year to refocus on her US career and is set to appear as a mentor on the American version of the format alongside Sheryl Crow. Kelly said: 'I am excited to join The Voice UK as a coach, and am looking forward to working with the excellent and passionate coaches the show is known for. "I can't wait to hear all the new talent and to go to battle for my team. Let's go!'
