Noida: With the monsoon quickly approaching, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has initiated a road repair and infrastructure upgrade drive. GNIDA CEO NG Ravi Kumar directed projects department officials to complete all necessary road repairs before the monsoon.According to officials, work to improve road conditions has already begun across the city. Repairing roads before the monsoon is essential, as rainwater seeps into existing cracks and potholes, weakening the road structure and making future repairs more costly. Moreover, wet and damaged roads increase the risk of accidents, especially for two-wheelers and pedestrians. Dry weather is ideal for durable and cost-effective road repairs, making pre-monsoon maintenance all the more necessary.Tenders have been floated to expedite the repair process. GNIDA has issued a tender for a 1.5km-long project, worth nearly Rs 13.8 crore, involving the construction of a 60m-wide road and an RCC drain from LG Chowk to the Sharda University roundabout. Another project, a 60m-wide road between sectors 2 and 3 in Greater Noida West, will soon be resurfaced at an estimated cost of Rs 1.4 crore. To prevent further road damage, a tender of around Rs 1.2 crore was issued for crack sealing on the 130-meter-wide road from Hindon Bridge to Sector 2 and Techzone-4.In Ecotech-7, a tender of Rs 2.25 crore was announced for a 45m-wide service road and drain from Luksar Jail to the Oppo company.According to Additional CEO Prerna, 19 tenders have been issued for various civic works, including construction, electrification, gardening, and water-sewer services. "The tender process will be completed within a month, and work will begin as per the planned schedule," she said.

As water pipe bursts, road bears the brunt in Noida

Noida: A water pipeline burst near the roundabout connecting Sectors Alpha 1 and 2 Friday, once again exposing the fragile state of basic infrastructure in the area. Residents say the leak had been ongoing for quite some time, evident from the damaged stretch of road surrounding the pipe. "A water pipeline was found leaking near the main road between Sectors Alpha 1 and 2. It appears the leak had been active for several days, as water erosion has caused the road to break," said Harinder Bhati, a daily commuter. This isn't the first time the sectors have faced such issues. In March this year, over 10,000 residents were left without water for days when the main pipeline near the Jaypee Golf Course roundabout burst. "Pipes are rusted and outdated. Despite repeated petitions for their replacement, GNIDA has taken no concrete action," said NP Singh, general secretary of the RWA, Sector Alpha 2. "There's always some leakage somewhere," said Ramdutt Sharma, a resident of B Block, Alpha 1. After receiving information about Friday's incident, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) officials from water department dispatched a team to begin repairs. However, residents remain skeptical. "Temporary repairs won't help," Singh added. "We need systemic upgrades, not just band-aid fixes." The persistent pipeline failures have raised questions over quality of maintenance and long-term planning by GNIDA, with locals demanding urgent action to prevent future disruptions. Promises unfulfilled, flooded KSRTC bus station cries for crucial makeover

KOCHI: Another monsoon season is here and it's the same old story at the Ernakulam KSRTC bus station. Located in the heart of the burgeoning city, the dilapidated bus station has remained susceptible to waterlogging for over a decade. While the demolition of the five-decade-old building that houses the station and the construction of a new terminal have hit a roadblock, the repeated promises of the KSRTC authorities to address the issue mostly remain on paper. The last of the assurances was delivered nearly two months back, when the authorities said the work to raise the floor-level of the building and the station premises and the setting up of new drains would be completed before the onset of monsoon. In fact, Ernakulam MLA T J Vinod allotted Rs 50 lakh for the purpose from the legislative assembly constituency asset development fund. The work has kicked off for sure, but is progressing at a tardy pace. 'The activities have been hampered by intermittent rain. The good thing is that the scope of the project has broadened with BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd) contributing Rs 99 lakh. A tripartite agreement will soon be signed between BPCL, KSRTC and the PWD to implement the Rs 1.5-crore project,' the MLA told TNIE. Swanky terminal a distant dream The plan to set up a new swanky bus terminal -- modelled after the Vyttila Mobility Hub -- on 2.9 acres in Karikkamury has suffered a setback. The project was initially mooted to be implemented with the Rs 12-crore fund promised by Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML). But the KSRTC backed out following a difference over the terms and conditions that included toll for the entry of KSRTC buses into the proposed terminal. 'Despite giving land, they wanted to levy a toll on our buses. That can't be justified,' a senior KSRTC official said. Earlier, the plan was to construct a bus terminal that can be accessed by both private and KSRTC buses. The project was in the doldrums and the CSML term ended in March. While the agency's term has been extended by another year, a fresh nod from the ministry of housing and urban affairs needs to be obtained to avail funding.

452 families evacuated in Mizoram floods: SEOC report

1 2 3 Aizawl: The state emergency operation centre (SEOC) on Thursday reported landslides, landslips and mudslides across 769 locations, while 272 buildings have been either destroyed or damaged. According to the report, a total of 452 families have been evacuated, of which 338 have been displaced due to their homes being rendered uninhabitable by landslides, mudslides and rockfalls. An additional 114 families have been relocated to safer areas, although some families in low-lying areas, particularly along the banks of the Tlawng and Khawthlangtuipui have begun to reoccupy their homes as water levels have receded. Despite a pause in showers since Tuesday afternoon, power supply remained erratic across the state, with many towns and villages still without electricity. However, the state power & electricity department has achieved nearly 100% power restoration in Aizawl. Water scarcity though continues to plague the state capital, along with most district headquarters, towns and villages due to high turbidity in rivers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Officials from the state Public Health Engineering (PHE) department said restoration of normal water supply will take time. Road networks too have been significantly impacted, with blockades across 319 different locations in the state. Additionally, 61 instances of wall collapses have been registered. State disaster management minister Prof. Lalnilawma said a 'Post Disaster Management Team' (PDMT) has been formed to conduct a comprehensive study to assess the full extent of damage caused by the heavy rainfall and calculate the overall cost of the devastation. "After the PDMT submits its report, it will again be evaluated after which the state govt will seek central aid, based on the extent of the destruction and damage," Lalnilawma said. He also mentioned that an allocation of Rs 57 crore has been made under the State Disaster Risk Management Fund (SDRMF) for the 2025-2026 financial year, based on a 90:10 share between the Centre and the state. Out of this, Rs. 45.60 crore (80%) is designated for the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), while Rs. 11.40 crore (20%) is allocated for the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF).
