Tyrese Haliburton cements himself as Knicks villain in one insane moment
Tyrese Haliburton embraced his role as the heel twice last year at MSG, both when the Pacers knocked out the Knicks in seven games in the second round of the playoffs and over the summer in a clash with Jalen Brunson at a WWE event.
Haliburton's level of hatred from the Garden crowd doesn't yet match the wrath the New York fans felt for Indiana predecessor Reggie Miller back in the '90s, but it's getting closer with the Pacers providing some heartbreak for the Knicks in the playoffs for the second straight year beginning with Wednesday night furious comeback win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The two-time All-Star heard a few chants of 'overrated' from the New York crowd, but he nailed the game-tying shot with his foot on the 3-point arc at the regulation buzzer before the Pacers pulled out a 138-135 overtime victory.
He even directed a Miller-esque choke sign at the Garden crowd when he thought he'd won the game before a replay review determined his foot was on the line.
Haliburton added two more points in OT to finish with 31 points — 12 fewer than Brunson's 43 — while also recording 11 assists in Game 1.
'For sure, it's a lot of fun, man. I think last year the series was a lot of fun, back and forth, it felt like nobody could win two in a row until we were able to do it [in Games 6 & 7],' Haliburton said before the series started.
'Going into the series, I think that [the MSG fans] didnt like the [Pacers] organization, but I don't think there were certain guys that their fans didn't like.
'But now they don't really like us too much. So it's all fun with it, man., and like I said, excited to add more chapters to this storied rivalry and just continue to be a part of it.'
Haliburton also joked that 'maybe it's a good thing that my dad won't be able to go,' after his father, John Haliburton, was banned by the Pacers from attending games for confronting Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court after the Indiana eliminated the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round.

The two-time All-Star point guard averaged 21.3 points and 7.0 assists in the second-round series against the Knicks last season.
The two guards are close after being teammates on Team USA at the FIBA World Cup in 2023, although only Haliburton was named to the U.S. Olympic team last summer.

They also both participated in the WWE event at the Garden last June, with Brunson chasing Haliburton out of the ring with a folding chair. Haliburton repsonded, 'I'll be back' and 'you don't want to see me again.'

Now, both Haliburton and Brunson are looking to help their respective teams end lengthy droughts without reaching the NBA Finals
Haluburton only managed four points in the first quarter, but the Pacers nailed their first eight FG attempts and 10 of 11. He scored seven straight Indiana points at one point of the second, and 10 overall in the quarter, but the Knicks led 69-62 at the half.

'I think he's an offense unto himself,' Tom Thibodeau said before the game. 'When he gets into space, that's when he's problematic. So we've got to make sure he's seeing bodies.'
Bridges got a piece of a Haliburton 3-point attempt early in the third and the Pacers' scoring leader later got razzed by the fans for chucking up an airball, but he netted nine in the quarter for a 90-87 Indiana hole entering the fourth.

2025 NBA Finals: The incredible Paul George trades that turned the Pacers and Thunder into title contenders
As it turns out, all you needed to do to reach the 2025 NBA Finals was trade Paul George. Remarkably, this year's Eastern Conference champion Indiana Pacers and Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder were both built from assets each team received in exchange for dealing George. How the Pacers built from trading Paul George Indiana selected George with the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. He made four All-Star teams for the Pacers, leading them to a pair of conference finals appearances, before informing the franchise in 2017 that he was planning to sign elsewhere — preferably with the Los Angeles Lakers — in free agency. Advertisement Not wanting to lose George for nothing, Indiana dealt him to the Thunder on July 6, 2017, in exchange for a 25-year-old Victor Oladipo and a 21-year-old Domantas Sabonis. Both Oladipo and Sabonis developed into All-Stars under Indiana's watch, though as a tandem they peaked in a pair of first-round playoff exits. One of those second-rounders became the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 draft, which the Pacers packaged, along with the No. 29 overall pick in the same draft, for a 2024 first-round draft pick from ... the Thunder. That selection was one of two first-round draft picks that Indiana dealt to the Toronto Raptors in January 2024 in exchange for Pascal Siakam, this year's Eastern Conference finals MVP. In July 2019, though, the Los Angeles Clippers came calling with an offer Oklahoma City could not refuse. The Clippers were trying to sign Kawhi Leonard in free agency, but the two-time Finals MVP wanted a star partner in L.A., so the organization went about the business of trying to pry George from the Thunder. Advertisement OKC executive Sam Presti squeezed the Clippers for everything he could, acquiring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari and the rights to a handful of first-round draft picks in exchange for George. As if recouping Gilgeous-Alexander, this year's MVP, were not enough, one of those picks — the No. 12 selection in 2022 — became Jalen Williams, who has developed into an All-Star for Oklahoma City. Much of the rest of the package from the Clippers is tied up in this year's draft, as the Thunder own pick Nos. 15, 24 and 44 in June, all from assets they received in the George deal. Oklahoma City can use those selections to replenish whomever they lose from their rising salary costs over the next couple of years. Between Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and whoever is still to come, the Thunder have built from George a budding dynasty. First, though, they must get through what they traded to acquire George from Indiana.

J.K. Rowling Reignites Calls To Strip lmane Khelif Of Olympic Gold Over Leaked Medical Reports
"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has spoken out again against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif following a leaked report alleging she is biologically male. Despite being disqualified by the IBA in 2023, Khelif competed and won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics based on her female ID. Besides J.K. Rowling, Imane Khelif also received backlash and criticism from several other notable figures, including Elon Musk, , and President Donald Trump. Rowling has reignited the gender and sport debate by supporting calls to revoke Olympic gold from Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, following a leaked medical report that allegedly identifies the athlete as biologically male. In her post, Rowling wrote: "It's a win for women because they won't be battered to death in the ring by men." She added: "If you had any idea what physical tests women go through routinely in their lives, you'd know a cheek swab is no bigger deal than flossing your teeth. Any more moronic questions, wing them over." British media personality also spoke out about the alleged test result, writing, "The biology-denying woke brigade abused and shamed me for saying it was outrageous and dangerous for Khelif to be beating up women at the Olympics. I'm ready for their apology, but won't hold my breath." The leaked medical document dated March 17, 2023, allegedly confirmed Khelif's male chromosomal profile and links directly to Khelif's removal from a competition in 2023, when the International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified her over "failing gender eligibility tests." Despite IBA's disqualification, Khelif went on to compete at the Paris Olympics, where she claimed gold in the women's category. Her eligibility at the time was reportedly based on her self-identified gender and possession of a female passport. The leaked results, which became publicly available following their release by journalist Alan Abrahamson on the 3 Wire Sports website, describe Khelif's chromosome pattern as "male karyotype" and categorize the findings as "abnormal." According to the Daily Mail, the test was reportedly carried out at Dr Lal PathLabs in New Delhi, an internationally certified laboratory recognized by the American College of Pathologists and ISO standards. Rowling's remarks and those of other famous critics of Khelif have led to fresh calls for the Algerian boxer's gold medal to be revoked. The revelation of the leaked medical report comes on the heels of World Boxing's recent decision requiring Imane Khelif to undergo sex verification testing to remain eligible for future participation in women's boxing events. The emergence of the document also casts doubt on previous statements made by IOC spokesperson Mark Adams, who had downplayed the legitimacy and implications of the test during a press conference at the Paris Olympics. At the time, Adams dismissed the 2023 test results as unreliable, calling them "ad hoc" and lacking legitimacy. "Those tests are not legitimate tests," he said. "The tests themselves, the process of the tests, the ad hoc nature of the tests are not legitimate." Adams added: "The testing, the method of the testing, the idea of the testing, which happened kind of overnight. None of it is legitimate, and this does not deserve any response." World Boxing imposed an indefinite suspension on Khelif, barring her from competing in the women's division at any of its sanctioned events, including the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup slated for June 5–10, 2025. In an official letter sent to the Algerian Boxing Federation, the governing body stated: "Imane Khelif may not participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup, 5-10 June 2025 and any World Boxing event until Imane Khelif undergoes genetic sex screening in accordance with World Boxing's rules and testing procedures." Additionally, World Boxing, now holding provisional oversight of Olympic boxing for LA 2028 under the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has introduced new eligibility requirements, including PCR testing for the SRY gene, which detects the presence of a Y chromosome. According to the organization, the PCR test is a molecular method designed to identify specific genetic markers, particularly the SRY gene, which signals the presence of a Y chromosome and is used to determine biological sex. The test can be administered via nasal or oral swab, saliva sample, or blood draw. This testing forms part of World Boxing's forthcoming "Sex, Age and Weight" policy, which the body says is intended to promote fairness and ensure the safety of all athletes competing in the sport. World Boxing's firm response comes amid backlash following the Paris Olympics, where both Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting won gold in the women's division. Italian boxer Angela Carini, who faced Khelif in an early round, later shared that the blows she received left her fearing for her life. Similarly, Mexico's Brianda Tamara Cruz, who fought Khelif in 2022, admitted, "I don't think I had ever felt like that in my 13 years as a boxer, nor in my sparring with men." It was the collective pushback, especially from Latin American boxing federations, that ultimately influenced World Boxing to adopt a stricter policy. Olympics get Honda as auto sponsor for 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The organizing committee for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles signed Honda as a 'founding partner' Monday, giving the upcoming Summer Games their sixth new sponsor this year and their first tier-one sponsor since 2021. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Price tags for this level of sponsorship have been reported to start at around $200 million. The deal fills a hole for LA28 in the automotive category, which is considered one of the most important in the Olympic world. Advertisement Toyota had been the Olympics auto sponsor before declining to renew its deal after 2024. Delta and Comcast are the other top-level sponsors for LA28. John Slusher, the CEO of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Properties, told Sports Business Journal that the new deal brings the operation to more than $1.5 billion in sponsorship sales, with a goal of $2.5 billion.
