The 16th Annual University of the West Indies Toronto Benefit Awards raised more than $460,000 for scholarships at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on April 26. The theme 'Bridging the Gap' captured the essence of the gala's goal: to help Caribbean students in their pursuit of higher education. Hosted by CBC News anchor Dwight Drummond, the event attracted nearly 500 guests, including Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont; co-patrons Donette Chin-Loy Chang and Kevin and Ann-Marie Hibbert; Luminary Award recipient Kardinal Offishall; University of Toronto Chancellor Wesley Hall; Olympic athlete Donovan Bailey; and Toronto International Film Festival CEO Cameron Bailey.

The Daily Mail reported that Lochte and Reid have an unpaid balance of $136,000 to the Internal Revenue Service from the years 2021 and 2022. On top of that, a lien was filed by Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinic for a total of nearly $230,000 stemming from two separate incidents. The first reportedly occurred in November 2023, when Lochte is said to have spent two days in a Gainesville medical facility for an unspecified treatment, accruing $175,000 in unpaid bills and another instance in February 2024, for an additional $54,000. The Fletcher Park Owner's Association reportedly cited Lochte and Reid for several 'unpaid' fees, including 'special assessments, late fees, costs of collection (and) attorney's fees.' TIFF's 50-film anniversary series kicks off with ‘The Princess Bride,' while adding many surprises

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman join Australia SailGP team as co-owners
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman become co-owners of the Australia SailGP team on Thursday. The 'Deadpool & Wolverine' stars joined driver and CEO Tom Slingsby in leading the team's rebrand after several successful seasons, winning three championships in its four seasons. The team will be called the BONDS Flying Roos, with the Australian underwear company BONDS as its title partner. 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure,' Reynolds and Jackman said in a joint statement released through SailGP. 'Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country, as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. It's the latest sports venture for Reynolds, who along with fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney is a co-owner of Wrexham, one of the world's oldest soccer clubs. The BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team is expected to make its debut at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix starting June 7. Slingsby, an Olympic gold medalist, said in a release that Jackman and Reynolds bring 'unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of (humor) that fits perfectly with our team.'
