Plane crashes into house in Germany - killing two including the pilot
A plane has crashed into a house in western Germany, killing two people including the pilot, according to local police.
The tragedy happened after the aircraft struck the terrace of a residential building in the town of Korschenbroich on Saturday.
The plane crashed at around 12.30 pm (10.30 GMT) and caused the house to catch fire, police said.
Dramatic images show firefighters hosing down the smoldering building after the flames were extinguished.
The mangled remains of the aircraft could be seen lying on the ground beside a huge hole in the wall.
Officers reportedly told German news agency dpa that one of the two people killed was the 71-year-old pilot.
The pilot was from Düsseldorf and appeared to have been sitting alone in the aircraft, they added.
It is unknown whether the other person had been a passenger on the plane or had been on the ground.
Firefighters responded in numbers with the local control center saying that around 50 personnel had been deployed.
They managed to put out the flames quickly. The cause of the crash has yet to be established.
Korschenbroich is located near the city of Mönchengladbach and is not far from the Dutch border.
It comes after in March a plane burst into a fireball after crashing into a Minnesota home, killing everyone onboard and leaving a raging inferno behind.
The single-engine aircraft plummeted from the sky in a quiet residential neighborhood of Brooklyn Park around 12:30pm on Saturday, according to Fox 9.
The entire home erupted into flames, leaving billows of black smoke rising in the air, causing first responders to evacuate the area.
There were no survivors on the plane, the fire chief said at a press conference. It was not clear how many people were aboard.
Luckily, no one was inside the home at the time of the crash.
The plane was a SOCATA TBM7, a single-engine business aircraft. It departed from Des Moines International Airport and was headed for Minneapolis, according to the outlet.
Multiple nearby residents were seen standing outside the home watching as a violent fire engulfed the residence, video taken by Mike Deyo showed.
'Looks like a plane crash in Brooklyn Park,' he can be heard saying as he filmed.

Live Donald Trump is named in Epstein files, claims Musk
Elon Musk has dropped a bombshell accusation, claiming his former close friend Donald Trump appears in the Epstein files. The claim was part of a spectacular war of words between the world's most powerful men, with the president claiming the Tesla boss has 'Trump derangement syndrome', and Mr Musk insisting Mr Trump only won the election because of him. Mr Musk said in a post on X: Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Earlier in the day Mr Trump told reporters during a sit-down with Friedrich Merz, Germany's new chancellor: 'Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore.' In February, Pam Bondi, the US attorney general, pledged to release all of the information the government holds on Epstein, which have come to be colloquially known as the 'Epstein files'. She invited a select group of pro-Maga influencers to the White House where they were handed binders containing what she said was 'Phase One' of the full document release. However, the 200-page document contained only phone-book contacts and flight logs, most of which have been available since 2015, and no date has been set for releasing the remaining files.

Police conclude searches in Portugal in Madeleine McCann investigation
Searches for Madeleine McCann in Portugal on land a mile from where the British toddler was last seen in 2007 have concluded. German and Portuguese investigators embraced each other on Thursday afternoon after three days of scouring scrubland and abandoned farmhouses close to the resort of Praia da Luz. Their efforts focused on a 120-acre stretch of land, using equipment such as chainsaws, drones, diggers and a ground-penetrating radar. There have been no obvious signs of any major discovery from the operation, which comes 18 years after the three-year-old disappeared from Praia da Luz while her parents were out having dinner, leaving her sleeping in a nearby room with her toddler twin siblings. CNN Portugal reported that animal bones and adult clothing had been found, while the Correio da Manhã newspaper said material collected from one of the many derelict houses had been sent off for analysis. On Thursday, search teams of German and Portuguese police officers, as well as firefighters, used pick-axes and shovels to dig some of the undergrowth in the area. A digger was again used to remove rubble from one of the abandoned structures. Investigators have also deployed ground penetrating radar technology that can identify anomalies under the surface. They began winding down the searches in Atalaia, near Lagos, on Thursday afternoon. At around 5pm the German and Portuguese teams were seen having a debrief before shaking hands and embracing. There was a round of applause before one officer was seen carrying a crate of German beerr. After the beers were carried away, some officers struggled to grapple with the tents they were taking down because of the blustery conditions. As they packed up, officers could be seen carrying equipment such as bins, boxes and folding tables away from their base area. Personnel also loaded vans, which were parked at the base area near to abandoned buildings, with some of the equipment used in the searches. Earlier in the day, a group of 15 officers had taken part in a hillside briefing by a derelict farmhouse. Police were then seen carrying out fingertip searches of shrubbery outside the property. Sign up to Headlines Europe A digest of the morning's main headlines from the Europe edition emailed direct to you every week day after newsletter promotion The search is being carried out at the request of the German federal police, as they look for evidence that could implicate the prime suspect, Christian Brückner, who is in prison for raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005. Brückner, who was living in a nearby cottage at the time of Madeleine's disappearance, has repeatedly denied any involvement. He is due to be released from jail in September if no further charges are brought. In October last year, he was cleared by a German court of unrelated sexual offences alleged to have taken place in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. British officers have not been present at the latest searches, the Metropolitan police said.
