Teen arrested in Tacoma Hilltop neighborhood murder
The Brief
Tacoma police have arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection to the shooting death of Messiah Washington, who was found dead inside the elevator of an affordable housing complex.
Police arrested the teen on Wednesday, in the same area that the murder took place.
TACOMA, Wash. - Tacoma police have made an arrest in connection to the shooting death of an 18-year-old in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood.
The shooting victim, Messiah Washington, was killed inside the elevator of Housing Hilltop, an affordable housing complex. It happened on Feb. 22 around 9 p.m.
On Wednesday, police arrested a 15-year-old boy and booked him into Remann Hall for first-degree murder.
The teen was arrested in the same area of Housing Hilltop, in the 1100 block of South L Street.
It's currently unknown if the 15-year-old is the only suspect in this case.
An online fundraiser was also started for the Washington family following Messiah's murder.

FBI Director Kash Patel issued an ominous threat to the city and its residents late Sunday night, claiming that his agency would intervene in the multiday anti-Trump display without explicit direction. Williamson said the pair 'reiterated the position that any perpetrator who attacks or interferes with law enforcement will be aggressively pursued and brought to justice.' Bongino made it plain that one of the agency's primary targets would be individuals suspected of assaulting officers, writing on X that he and Patel had notified all FBI teams to pursue suspected individuals 'long after order is firmly established.' 'We will not forget. Even after you try to,' Bongino posted. But Republicans have so far not been very successful at pinpointing wrongdoing in Los Angeles. Instead, some viral videos circulating in conservative circles of protest-related violence in the city are actually not from the weekend at all, but were instead taken in 2020 during the Black Lives Matter protests.

Rioters smashed windows of the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD's) headquarters on West 1st Street and faced tear gas that officials deployed downtown as agitators clashed with authorities in the city. Rioters were seen targeting the LAPD headquarters on Sunday night as violent demonstrations spread through LA over the weekend in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. President Donald Trump sent 2,000 National Guard troops to the area on Friday. "California politicians must call off their rioting mob," the Department of Homeland Security said in a Monday morning post on X, along with video footage from the riots. "Federal law enforcement are working to protect and safeguard American citizens from criminal illegal aliens. Why is California's governor siding with foreign criminals?" Ny Times Says 'Real Emergency' Is Trump Sending Troops To Los Angeles The LAPD declared an "unlawful assembly" Sunday evening as protesters failed to disperse in the downtown area.
