It is neck and neck with Dhanush's Raayan, which made Rs 27.04 crore in two days, and has edged past Suriya's Retro, which earned Rs 27 crore in the same time frame. Backed by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under Amigos Creations, Kuberaa features Dhanush in an intense and unconventional role — that of a beggar — which has earned him critical acclaim. Dhanush's emotional connection with the film was evident when he attended the first day, first show of Kuberaa with his son Linga at Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai. Dhanush was visibly emotional as fans cheered loudly, scaled theatre walls, and tried to catch a glimpse of him. Videos of the moment, showing him folding hands and acknowledging the crowd, quickly went viral. His security had to intervene to help him safely exit the premises. Interestingly, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the film a UA certificate only after significant edits.
