Proving a growing theory can give Ravens AFC North (and some jinx-ending bragging rights)

USA Today21-05-2025

Proving a growing theory can give Ravens AFC North (and some jinx-ending bragging rights) Another AFC North title would give the Ravens divisional superiority and a bragging rights over their rivals.
This isn't an exaggeration. It has been hard not to watch Hard Knocks again while passing the time ahead of another Baltimore Ravens season. Truthfully, this would have been the fourth or fifth viewing. HBO's long-running behind-the-scenes peek into NFL training camps finally evolved, and it's about time.
Season one in 2001 featured the Ravens. As time passed, things became predictable. There are only so many times the cameras can follow some rookie we don't know before he's cut in the third or fourth episode, but In Season with the AFC North was the cure for all that ailed us. Here we are, dealing with something all too familiar: the expectations of another shot at glory.
Another race for the AFC North begins.
The dates have danced in our heads so often that we have them memorized. Baltimore's OTA offseason workouts run from May 27-29. They pick up on June 3rd and continue through June 5-6 and June 9-12. Mandatory Minicamp runs from June 17-19.
In addition to keeping up with all things Baltimore Ravens, one eye stays on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Everyone has also kept tabs on the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. Here's what we've learned (or retaught ourselves).
The Steelers don't have a QB and seem content to do all they can to lose the AFC North by the end of the summer. The Cleveland Browns have too many QBs, and the rookie might become a distraction if they aren't careful.
The Bengals have become 'The Bungles' again. They seemingly don't want to pay anyone except their quarterback and wide receivers, leading many to a consensus when the topic of conversation turns to what's expected from this race for the division title.
The Ravens seem to be everyone's favorite to win the AFC North, and if they do, they'll make history.
Ask around. Check out any sportsbook. Take a poll on social media. Most NFL pundits agree.
The Ravens are the favorites to win the AFC North this season. Doing so will accomplish a feat not seen since the AFC Central was transformed into a four-team division 23 years ago.
The Pittsburgh Steelers won the Central Division from 1974 to 79. Cleveland won three straight titles in the mid-eighties (1985-87). The Steelers again took the crown from 1994-97, but since pro football's realignment ahead of the 2002 regular season, no AFC North team has won three divisional titles.
Baltimore took the crown in 2023 and 2024. They have larger goals than beating up on the Steelers, Browns, and Bungles this season, but if this is to be a historic campaign, one that hopefully ends with a third Lombardi Trophy win, claiming bragging rights over their rivals would make another championship that much sweeter

He threw for 182 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, extending his dominant run over the Bears. Jordan Love 'excited' to face Aaron Rodgers when Packers meet Steelers, hopes to exchange jerseys

With Aaron Rodgers officially signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he's set for some pretty fun reunions on the 2025 schedule. Not only will he be facing his former New York Jets teammates in a Week 1 battle, but the Steelers will also be hosting the team Rodgers won four league MVP trophies with over his future Hall of Fame career. And Rodgers' Green Bay Packers successor, Jordan Love, can't wait for the "Sunday Night Football" reunion. The Packers and Steelers will square off on Oct. 26 at Acrisure Stadium in the primetime slot, and Love told Channel 3000 during his round of golf at the American Family Insurance Championship on Friday how much he's looking forward to it. "It's going to be fun. It's going to be awesome. I'm excited for it," Love said. "I can't wait to be on different sides, meeting up, and I know we'll talk pregame, things like that. And hopefully we can exchange jerseys after." Love was taken 26th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, which shocked some considering Rodgers was showing no signs of slowing down under center. Well, it seems to light an extra fire in his belly, as Rodgers went on to win back-to-back MVP awards in the 2020 and 2021 seasons while Love learned behind him as his backup. But in 2022, Rodgers saw his final season with the Packers after an 8-9 record, and Green Bay made it clear who was next up. Love took all the lessons he learned from Rodgers and cemented himself as the team's quarterback of the future, going 9-8 with 4,159 yards passing with 32 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in his third NFL season (first as the team's starter). The Packers signed Love to an extension before the 2024 season, and though he dealt with an early injury, he went 9-6 over his 15 games to lead his team to the playoffs as Green Bay went 11-6. While Love is looking to keep stacking up playoff seasons, he was tapped into Rodgers' offseason journey this year, saying he wasn't "too surprised" to see him choose Pittsburgh. "I was excited for him, that he was obviously coming back and going to be playing. There were also some rumors that he might be done, so just knowing he's going to keep playing, that's pretty awesome." Love reiterated what he's said in the past about Rodgers, that he was a good mentor while they were teammates despite Green Bay drafting Rodgers' successor. After all, Rodgers went through it himself when he was drafted as Brett Favre's replacement. "I appreciate definitely the way A-Rod handled being in that situation, and I think a big part of it – which he told me – was he knew how it was for him being in that same position and the things that he went through and the way the situation might've been handled [differently]. I think perspective was: 'I'm trying to go about this a little bit differently,' which I think was awesome," Love explained. "In my time with A-Rod, we had a great relationship. It was awesome being in the same room with him, being able to learn." Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Ryan Clark Trashes 'Worst' Aaron Rodgers Signing By Steelers

Ryan Clark Trashes 'Worst' Aaron Rodgers Signing By Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ryan Clark loves his old team the Pittsburgh Steelers. But he doesn't love their high-profile blockbuster signing of Aaron Rodgers. Advertisement And he apparently doesn't much love Rodgers himself, either. On Thursday, the league's wildest quarterback chase came to an end: Rodgers will get his one-year rental deal and at age 41 will attempt to recapture what he once was ... But what he hasn't been for years. Rodgers has made himself into a figure of controversy in ways that have nothing to do with football; that is a story for another day. But on the field? He gives the Steelers a level of potency that Mason Rudolph doesn't. Right? Pittsburgh is better off with Rodgers. Right? Pittsburgh is "loading up'' for a championship run, the national media tells us. Advertisement Right? Ryan Clark doesn't see that happening. On 'SportsCenter,' the former Steelers star slowed the hype on Pittsburgh's chances after the Rodgers signing with a semi-trashing of the whole affair. "This is the worst case scenario for Pittsburgh Steelers fans," Clark said. "He continues to keep you mired in mediocrity.'' Clark isn't suggesting that the Steelers will fail to improve in some tiny way. But ... "Will they contend for that championship that Pittsburgh Steelers people and fans and the organization think is the standard?'' he asked. "No, they won't. They'll be fighting for a wild-card spot ... and again be looking for a franchise quarterback. If you told me you were going to pair one of this era's greatest coaches with one of this era's greatest quarterbacks, I'd expect greatness. Advertisement "That is not what we'll get. Maybe six years ago, but not now." Clark is right about the "six years ago'' part of his analysis. Rodgers, coming off a poor season with the New York Jets, wasn't stellar at the end of his Green Bay stint, either. Could Rodgers exceed expectations and end his career on a high note? That's the plan. ... and to Clark, not a very good one.
