Yankees DFA Pablo Reyes days after chaotic baserunning heroics
Giancarlo Stanton is back, and that means the end of the Pablo Reyes era in The Bronx.
The utility man was designated for assignment on Monday, the corresponding move with Stanton activated from the injured list.
Reyes, 31, saw action in 31 games for the Bombers this season, putting together a slash line of .194/.242/.226 after making the team as a non-roster invitee this spring.

The move comes days after Reyes delivered the iconic image of their sweep-clinching win over the Royals on Thursday, scoring the game's lone run in a chaotic eighth-inning sequence.
Reyes, on second, raced around from second on Paul Goldschmidt's line drive to first base, which trickled off Kansas City first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino.

Reyes stumbled rounding third, turned back and then took off for home, beating Lucas Erceg's throw and laying in the dirt gasping for breath.
'There's a little bit of panic, because it's late in the game … and you definitely want to score there,' Reyes said after the win through an interpreter. 'There's two outs, so in my mind, I'm trying to do whatever I can to score. I lost my balance, and at the same time, I heard [third-base coach] Luis Rojas telling me, 'Keep going, keep going, keep going!' I noticed there was a hesitation there [by] the pitcher, and I just kept going and did the best I could.'
Still, the Dominican journeyman who has made stops in Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Boston and with the Mets, seemed to know he might have to find another team to continue his baseball odyssey.

'I'm trying to enjoy every opportunity that [Aaron Boone] gives to me,' he told reporters on Thursday. 'I just try to keep my head up and come here every day and work hard and get ready for the opportunity. … If he gives me the opportunity, I'm going to try to enjoy it and help my teammates, trying [to do] what I can, give my best to win the game. That's the only thing I can control.'

Will Rafael Devers Trade Trigger Avalanche of Moves Before Trade Deadline?
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Boston Red Sox shipped Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants after months of turmoil and unwillingness to be a team player as the franchise's cornerstone. Trades like this do not typically come in the heart of June, especially from a team that is in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Red Sox entered Monday a half-game back of the final wild card spot. BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 13: Rafael Devers #11 of the Boston Red Sox looks on in the tenth inning against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on June 13, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. Photo byThe Devers drama began when the team signed third baseman Alex Bregman away from the Houston Astros in the offseason, in which Devers said that he would not be transitioning off of third base when the team asked him to. When he followed this up with refusing to play first base when Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury, the writing was on the wall that Devers may not finish out the season with the Red Sox. Despite this, the Red Sox have been in the mix of the American League and are in no way out of the playoff hunt this season. Still, the question remains how this will affect the trade market as the deadline approaches. With the Giants seemingly beginning the arms race in the tightly contested National League West, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres may follow suit in the coming weeks. While the Devers deal did feel unexpected, as there were no public rumblings of a trade in the works until it happened, it may not be the rock that causes the avalanche in the trade market. Many teams that are on the verge of selling veteran talent at the deadline are still in the mix for the playoffs, but a bad couple of weeks could lead to many fire sales. Noah Lyles' long-awaited race with Tyreek Hill canceled over mysterious ‘personal reasons'
Noah Lyles has shared new details on why his race with Tyreek Hill never happened. At the Sport Beach event in Cannes, France, Monday, the Olympic gold medalist revealed that the showdown with the NFL speedster was supposed to have happened this weekend in Times Square, but it fell through due to 'complications' and 'personal reasons.' 'We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend,' Lyles said. 'Unfortunately there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn't come to pass, but we were full on. 'We were gonna have a big event, we were going to shut down New York Times Square and everything, we were gonna have all the billboards for the event, it was going to be a lot of fun.' Lyles, an American sprinter who competes in the 60-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter dash, won gold at the 2024 Olympics in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 9.784. He's widely considered the fastest man in the world, but that hasn't stopped Hill from claiming he could beat Lyles in a race. AFP via Getty Images There has been plenty of trash talk between the two over the past year about a potential race — and Lyles was adamant that it was going to happen, even if people doubted it would. 'A lot of people didn't believe it to be true. They thought it was just, 'Oh, this is just them talking online,'' Lyles said. 'We had to bring it to fruition.' Lyles said both the general public and potential corporate sponsors 'didn't believe it was real,' but that he took charge in an effort to make it happen. 'It's like, 'Don't worry, I'll take care of this. I know what to do. And it's not going to look to the point where it's staged. It's going to look right on the money, trust me,'' Lyles said. Even though the logistics for the event never fell into place, Hill is still challenging Lyles to a race. Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill celebrating a touchdown during a game in September 2022. Getty Images The Dolphins wide receiver ran a 10.15 100-meter dash at the Last Chance Sprint Series on Friday, holding up a sign afterwards that read, 'Noah could never.' Lyles, of course, has proven that he can, with his 9.784 time at the 2024 Games in Paris. The exact complications and personal reasons for why the race never occurred are unclear. Hill was reportedly involved in a domestic disturbance with his ex-wife, Keeta, in April. Hill has a track record of off-field issues, which includes a domestic assault conviction in 2015 and a child abuse investigation in 2019.

Bombers coach says no update on star RB Oliveira, Lions rematch coming this weekend
WINNIPEG - Brady Oliveira was at Blue Bombers practice on Monday, but the star running back was an observer rather than a participant. Head coach Mike O'Shea had no update on whether the CFL's reigning most outstanding player and top Canadian would play in Saturday's rematch in B.C. against the Lions. 'You know me, I'm always hopeful,' O'Shea told reporters. Oliveira left the field early with an upper-body injury in last Thursday's season-opening 34-20 victory at home against the Lions. Some reports said he might have suffered a shoulder injury. After Monday's practice, Oliveira was casually throwing footballs with receiver Nic Demski. O'Shea was asked if that was a promising sign. 'Tossing footballs and delivering hits are two different things,' he said. Oliveira ripped off a 43-yard run during Winnipeg's first series against B.C. Quarterback Chris Streveler then threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Demski in the end zone at 2:29. Oliveira left the field after the score and didn't return. He was replaced by rookie Matthew Peterson, who wowed the crowd with 23 carries for 130 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown. The University of Alberta product, whom the Bombers acquired in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on draft day this year, said he spoke to Oliveira after the game. 'I just said, 'Everything for you,'' Peterson said after Monday's practice. 'And he said, 'Good job, buddy.'' The Brooks, Alta., native said his professional debut has added to his confidence and he'll be ready if he's called to action when the 1-0 Bombers face the Lions (1-1). 'Having that big of a game, it helps the confidence that much more,' Peterson said. 'But the reason why I have so much confidence is because of the five guys in front of me and the quarterback and all the weapons around me.' There will be a different starting quarterback for Winnipeg in Saturday's game. Zach Collaros had to miss the opener because he was serving a one-game suspension for failing to respond to an off-season drug-testing request. Collaros watched the game from inside Princess Auto Stadium. 'I'd be lying to you if I said that it wasn't difficult to watch the game from the locker room,' he said. But it was interesting, too. 'I was pacing the hallways there and the weight room, walking on the treadmill, so it was cool to watch it on TV,' Collaros said. 'You could hear the crowd erupting before something good happened, so that was cool to anticipate what would happen, but it was not a fun experience.' He did see Oliveira after he exited the game. 'Any time you have to come out of a football game like that it's tough, on a human level as we talk about, when those things happen,' Collaros said. 'Going to get him a Gatorade and a protein bar was pretty much all I could do in that moment, and tell him it's going to be all right.' Peterson's performance was 'awesome' and his long TD run impressive, Collaros said. 'Being able to watch that over and over again on TSN was really cool,' he said. 'The cut that he made to create some separation in the game there was huge for us, too.' While Streveler made some great throws and executed the game plan, Collaros is ready to return to action. 'I guess I am excited to get back out there,' he said. 'It's kind of the whole angst thing, as it is, leading into a new season. 'It's been different for me, obviously. We had a bye week and then not playing, so I feel like we've been in camp for a very long time.' B.C. quarterback Nathan Rourke left last week's game midway through the fourth quarter with an apparent injury. He told reporters after the game something in his midsection felt off and made it hard for him to put power on his throws. The Lions didn't practise Monday. A media report said Rourke pulled an oblique muscle. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 16, 2025.
