Beth Mead offers three-word injury update after suffering England Euros scare

Beth Mead stayed down after a late challenge in England's 7-0 victory over Jamaica but was able to continue and scored the Lionesses' final goal before revealing: "I am okay"
England star Beth Mead allayed injury fears after suffering a scare as the Lionesses signed off ahead of this summer's Euros with a thumping win against Jamaica.
Mead stayed down after a late challenge in Sunday's 7-0 victory at the King Power Stadium but was able to continue and scored the Lionesses' final goal of the afternoon.

Mead's reaction might have left some fans worried after she missed 11 months with a cruciate ligament injury sustained in late 2022, but she assured them she's good to go.

'I am okay, yeah,' Mead said. 'I think sometimes when you're getting hit in the knee after an injury like an ACL it's a little bit of a panic, but after the impact I felt okay.'
'I think we did well to score seven. We could have scored more but the post and crossbar wasn't having it.
England cruised to victory over Jamaica, with six difference scorers in the victory. Ella Toone scored twice in the first half, with Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway, Alessia Russo and Aggie-Beever Jones all on target before Mead's own late contribution.
It was an ideal send-off, but Arsenal star Mead recognised the Euros opener against France will be a 'very different' kind of test.
England take on France on July 5, followed by further group games against the Netherlands and Wales, and Mead recognises manager Sarina Wiegman will need to make use of her whole squad after two substitutes combined for Beever-Jones' goal.
'100 percent. You look at the last Euros, some of our bench players made big differences and we need the whole squad throughout tournaments,' Mead said.

''It's not the starting 11, it's the whole squad day in, day out. The four [standby] girls that are leaving us today, they've been incredible… It's a squad effort and that's what we need to understand.'
Chelsea star Lauren James made her own return from injury, playing half an hour and setting up Russo's goal, and Mead spoke highly of her team-mate after the cameo.

'LJ is a world-class player and when you get her in the right positions she's going to do exactly that,' she said.
'It's nice to play alongside her, I think we all have a good understanding of what she brings and how we can bring the best out of her, and hopefully we can do that this summer.'
James is one of a wealth of attacking talents who can contribute for Wiegman, and the manager highlighted her options as she faces the good kind of selection dilemma.
"We have many players that can play in the 10,' Wiegman said. 'Jess Park, Grace Clinton, Ella Toone, Lauren James. She can play up front but can also play in the 10 like we saw today.'

Yorkshire v Essex, Surrey v Durham and more: county cricket day two

Update: Date: 2025-06-30T08:51:26.000Z Title: Sunday's round-up Content: County Cricket Day 2025 was distinguished by soft Kookaburra balls and soaring temperatures. At York, the groundsman had left enough grass on the pitch to give it a minty sheen, but a combination of ball, disciplined Yorkshire bowling and heat-induced inertia tested the patience of even the most loyal fan. The ground became more and more lopsided as spectators slid towards the shade of the oak tree behind the scorebox while Essex's Tom Westley (107) and Dean Elgar (94) plodded on. And on. Westley's hundred was his second in successive matches. It was a good day for Ben Compton at Canterbury: a county cap, a three-year contract extension and 66 runs, as Kent batted their way to a comfortable 325-4 against Northamptonshire, with additional half centuries for Daniel Bell-Drummond and Tawanda Muyeye. Tom Banton, whose season hit a spectacular high in the first round with 371, but who has since found runs hard to mine, ground an unbeaten 57 against Nottinghamshire. There were also fifties for Tom Abell and James Rew after Somerset had wobbled at 22 for two. Centuries from Dom Sibley and Sam Curran put Surrey in the driving seat at the Oval. A swashbuckling Dan Lawrence half-century after tea put the tin lid on Durham's decision to have a bowl. Sam Robson clocked his first hundred of the season for Middlesex at a flat, dry Grace Road. Leicestershire were shorn of their first-choice attack due to injuries and Ian Holland's presence at Major League Cricket, but Roman Walker pocketed three wickets. Lancashire recovered from the depths of 44 for four at Derbyshire thanks to a self-denying 106 from Keaton Jennings and a chirpier 121 from Chris Green. Zak Chappell grabbed four wickets. Henry Crocombe, replacing Jofra Archer, spirited away by England after one game, kept Sussex in the match against Warwickshire with three wickets. Mason Crane also grabbed three for Glamorgan against Gloucestershire. And at Southampton, Barry Richards was one of the spectators as Worcestershire's Adam Hose frying-panned the Hampshire attack during his 266 at more than a run a ball. Thirty one fours and seven sixes peppered the lounging crowds and switched the narrative of a broiling day. Liverpool will need to be 'delicate' to Palace to strike Guehi deal

Marc Guehi officially enters the final 12 months of his Crystal Palace contract on Tuesday and interest is you would imagine, there are a number of teams keen on taking advantage of the appear to be emerging as strong contenders for the centre-back but there are various factors that will prove crucial in whether they take steps to formalise their valuation of a player who can leave for nothing next summer will be Liverpool don't view Guehi's price as reasonable, don't be surprised to see them park their interest for 12 months and look to strike a free-transfer is no official word on what Palace would be prepared to accept for their skipper. There have been indications, though, that they may be willing accept a deal worth between £40m and £ issue, however, would be whether Liverpool see it that preferred profile for a centre-back in recent years has been younger than the Palace centre-back so they will be looking for what they judge as value to change their Liverpool set to sell centre-back Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £35m, there is logic to the thought the Merseysiders could aim to break even in any formal bid for they'd be willing to pay a little extra over the money they recoup for Quansah - but not by a delicate Palace value Guehi at a price the Premier League champions deem fair, and Liverpool enter the discussions at a figure the Londoners don't perceive as 'low-balling', then that could open the door towards a successful and amicable that in mind, the first point of formal contact between clubs will likely be crucial towards whether Guehi ends up at Anfield.
