Real or fake? Saudi Police drift, jump through car windshield to 'catch thief'
A video of Saudi Arabian police staging a dramatic car chase to apparently 'catch a thief' has been going viral on the internet, with many calling the act no less than a movie stunt.
The video, shared by several accounts on Instagram, shows a white car being chased by a police vehicle in Riyadh. As the car speeds ahead, the police make a sudden drift, cutting right in front of the moving vehicle which brings it to a halt.
One of the cops is seen jumping out of the police vehicle and smashing into the windshield of the white car. Another police vehicle approaching from behind stops the white car from escaping further.
While the video is fascinating to watch and is indeed a jaw-dropping display of efficiency by the Saudi police, it wasn't a real chase to nab a runaway criminal. The video is from a mock drill conducted in Riyadh ahead of the Hajj pilgrimage.
As part of its extensive preparations for Hajj 2025, Saudi Arabia conducted a large-scale security forces parade and military exercises in Makkah on May 31.
The drill included synchronized formations, swift-response operations by commando units, and simulated emergency scenarios, including crowd disturbances and potential threat neutralization.
The car chase part of the drill seemed to have caught the fancy of many Instagram handles who have been circulating it as a real attempt to catch a criminal. However, many social media users pointed out that there are tell-tale signs in the video to show that this wasn't an impromptu scenario.
"Looks like a drill or shoot. There are many police vehicles in the background which were already at rest. Big screen showing the chase, car didn't try to evade after being stopped from front,' wrote one user on Facebook.
The parade was conducted to verify and ensure the readiness of Saudi Arabia's security forces for the Hajj pilgrimage, which attracts thousands of people around the world. The drill was held to prepare for the logistical challenges and security issues that might arise during the annual event.

Syria says Israeli raid captured civilians, not Hamas fighters
Syria on Thursday said the people detained by Israeli forces during an overnight raid in a southern Syrian town were civilians, rejecting Israel's claims that they were members of Hamas. The raid comes as Israel has stepped up operations in southern Syria following weeks of relative calm. Israel launched waves of air strikes across Syria after rebel groups toppled the Bashar Al Assad regime in early December, destroying large parts of the Syrian army's weapons stockpile and seizing territory in the south. Israel has expressed distrust towards Syria's new authorities, led by President Ahmad Al Shara, a former Al Qaeda commander-turned-statesman, who has pledged to govern the fractured country inclusively and unify all of Syria's armed groups under a single command structure. Mr Al Shara's government has adopted a pragmatic approach towards Israel, with the President revealing during a visit to France last month that his country was engaged in indirect talks with the Israelis. But tensions flared again in early June after projectiles were fired from southern Syria into Israeli territory. Israel retaliated with air strikes on June 8 – the first in nearly month –which it said killed a Hamas member on the outskirts of Beit Jinn.

Department of Community Development launches Child Protection in Sport Policy
Abu Dhabi: The Department of Community Developmenthas introduced the Child Protection Policy in the Sports Entities with the aim of creating a safe and inclusive environment where children can thrive and enjoy sports free from harm. Developed in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA), the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), and the Family Care Authority (FCA), the policy aligns with Federal Law No (3) of 2016, known as Wadeema, and its executive regulations. The policy applies to all sports entities in Abu Dhabi, as well as to all workers and volunteers involved in sports activities outside educational institutions. To support the policy's implementation, the department will roll out a comprehensive awareness campaign. His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Sports Sector at DCD, said: 'The Child Protection Policy in the Sports Entities reflects the department's commitment to promoting the welfare of children and ensuring their safety in all areas. It is an important step that promotes the healthy growth and development of children, in line with the vision of our leadership, which is keen to protect children and ensure their rights and safety. The policy focuses on enhancing awareness and community participation in protecting children by empowering sports entities, parents and workers in the sports sector to effectively assume their responsibilities. 'The policy includes a comprehensive set of principles and mechanisms that ensure the application of the highest standards of protection, including the appointment of child protection coordinators in sports entities, and the provision of mandatory training programmes for workers and volunteers to ensure their readiness to deal with any potential dangers, in addition to imposing strict procedures for reporting and following up on violations, which enhances the culture of transparency and accountability.' The policy is based on four main principles that ensure parents, and their children feel safe by promoting the right to participate, zero tolerance for child abuse, as well as responsibility, accountability, protection, and non-retaliation. The policy aims to establish mechanisms, standards, and procedures to safeguard children in all sports entities and facilities. It also seeks to protect children participating in sports activities from any behaviour, conduct, or actions that violate their rights, harm their interests, or cause them physical or emotional harm. Additionally, the policy provides support for children in sports activities who may be at risk of abuse, neglect, or violence. The policy mandates that all employees in sports entities and facilities who interact directly with children must report any suspected or alleged cases of child abuse, neglect, or violence within the sports sector. It also outlines the roles and responsibilities of sports entities, professional athletes, volunteers, parents, and caregivers in addressing such cases. This approach aims to promote the wellbeing and safety of children in sports, foster positive behaviour, build healthy social relationships, uphold standards of sportsmanship, and create a safe and constructive environment for sports activities. The policy includes the development of legal frameworks to prevent anyone who poses a threat to children participating in sports activities, in addition to preventing them from joining any sports entity, work or other environment that allows them to deal with children. It also focuses on coordination with the competent authorities and concerned parties to ensure the protection of the rights of all children participating in sports activities. The Child Protection Policy in the Sports Entities prohibits all forms of child abuse, including physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, neglect, exploitation, bullying in any form, and any type of discrimination based on race, age, gender, nationality, religion, or developmental delays. The policy was developed through the collaborative efforts of DCD, ADSC, and FCA, along with various relevant partners in the health, society, sports and education sectors, including the ECA, the UAE Pro League, Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), the Ministry of Education, in addition to the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the Emirates Schools Establishment. Video: Sudden swerve causes multi-car pile up in Ajman; police warn of Dh1,000 fine
To warn traffic violators of dire consequences for reckless driving, Ajman Police has shared a video of a multi-car pile up that was caused by one car's sudden change of track. In the video, a red car is seen indecisive about the route, and changing track suddenly which causes multiple vehicles to pile up behind it. Three car crash into each other as a result. The video ends with a reminder of Dh1,000 fine for sudden swerves and Dh400 for failing to keep a safe distance. Sharing the video, Ajman Police talked about a new initiative where they will be using video footage captured by surveillance systems to warn traffic violators of consequences. The 'Be Careful' campaign has been launched as part of its commitment to enhancing road safety and the safety of motorists. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the dangers of committing traffic violations and incorrect behaviors that cause accidents and endanger lives and property.
